The Walt Disney Company President & CEO on Steve Jobs' Passing: "Steve Jobs was a great friend as well as a trusted advisor. His legacy will extend far beyond the products he created or the businesses he built. It will be the millions of people he inspired, the lives he changed, and the culture he defined. Steve was such an “original,” with a thoroughly creative, imaginative mind that defined an era. Despite all he accomplished, it feels like he was just getting started. With his passing the world has lost a rare original, Disney has lost a member of our family, and I have lost a great friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Laurene and his children during this difficult time."

Then I have all the room to talk. Why make off-topic threads? It defeats the purpose of categories for threads.

I don't know why you're so up in arms about this. Seriously- nobody chewed you out when you posted things that were not "in their proper area", so I'm not sure why you've decided to take it upon yourself to freak out over this one thread.

I've been using Mac computers since the late '80s. Never used another brand. Steve Jobs was such an innovator, such a visionary. His Apple products were unique, and his company seemed to be attuned to meeting modern peoples' needs. His stuff was fun to use, maybe that says it all.

We will always honor you, Mr. Jobs. Peace be With You.

:littleangel:

Same here... even the dark years in the mid-1990s... it's a loss for Apple, a loss for Disney and a loss for the world regardless of whether or not you used his products. He's a close as we've had to a Walt Disney figure over the past few decades.

Now if that's not relevant to Theme Parks Attractions & Strategies then I don't know what is. I truly think it's disrespectful to say it's not. RIP Steve Jobs.

I think I can get this thread locked......

How To Save $$ @ WDW; There is a hole in the fence behind Space Mountain that you can get to by walking down the road by the CR.............................................

RIP Mr Jobs:littleangel:

It is truly a sad day. A shining candle has gone out.

If it's not Mr. Jobs in Spaceship Earth, then they could certainly add something, either in SSE or Innoventions.

The idea of communications has been a long-term component of EPCOT. Remember the old vid phones for dining reservations and the communications center behind the golfball?

I'd personally love to see interactive exhibits n changed communications, and I can't believe that Mr. jobs' impact wouldn't be recognized.

And what about the Pixar world and how that has transformed animation? That, I think, could also be recognized.

I could see an animatronic show with the entrainment innovators of history, among them Charlie Chaplin, Mr. Disney, Mr. Jobs....

Wouldn't that be cool!

Op, thanks for posting this.:sad1:

I'm sitting here at Epcot waiting to watch Illuminations and had no idea. I just happened to tune in to the Theme Parks board on my wonderful iPhone - thank you, Mr. Jobs. Tonight is EMH's so hopefully we can ride SE in his honor - if it's open.

Maxiesmom, as usual, ITA. :)

I'd hope you wouldn't. Unless all of a sudden I became a ride at WDW. Now if Steve Jobs was a flying elephant you'd have all the right to post.

What a stooge.

But we care about how you were "yelled at by a castmember"...

When my DD was a young adult, she accused me of being a show-off, always going on about Macs because they just-plain-ran with no problems, while her PC was infested with viruses, ran so many crappy programs, and crashed time after time. Last 5 years DD is a Mac convert (because of her friends, not because of me). She has a nifty Mac laptop, just got the new iPhone today, etc., etc. All I can think of is, "I tried to tell you that, all those years." :)

And we cared when he posted about his refillable resort mug on the theme park board too, even though it was not about Theme Parks Attractions and Strategies.

Anyhow, back on topic:

I think this piece really sums up Steve Jobs, and what an amazing man he was all-around:
http://www.cnn.com/2011/10/05/us/obit-steve-jobs/index.html

"You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future, you have to trust in something: your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life." - Steve Jobs

None of that has nothing to do with theme park attractions or strategy.

Never once at the parks when debating riding a ride have I wondered how Steve was doing.

Do we post on here about deaths when anyone else who changed the world dies?

Wow - lots of people associate Steve with Disney.

This isn't the announcement of just anybody dying. They broke in on the television to announce his death. It is big news and people here on the Dis Board want to discuss it. If you don't want to, then read something else, please.

RIP Steve - thanks for everything. :sad1:

I suppose it is sad but not sure in any way how it relates to Disney Theme Parks Attractions and Strategies...

Maybe the parks will be a little less crowded tomorrow....with a lot of people who actually care deciding not to spend the day on rides....
How's that? Relevant enough for you?
IMO, Steve Jobs was not only a visionary and inspiration to millions, but also a true American Hero.
RIP, and my sympathies go out to his family and friends.

i've done my RIP'ing enough everywhere else but RIP Steve, you changed our lives forever. ut
On a side note to defend the person you are all attacking...
This board seems to be for people who need help with the theme parks , maybe finding an attraction, some hours, whats the best ride here, where to go there...

I as well do not see how this news is related to a traveler's stratgegy of visiting the parks?
Perhaps this news is better discussed in the Company news or community section? I think its a better home there.

I know I am going to be attacked much like the other guy and you can twist it all into how he does relate to helping someone seeking info on visiting a park but its all good.

Thank you Steve for everything you have given to this world.

The JOY that the "Cars" movie has given to my oldest son the past few years......

The Disney Countdown that I check on my iPhone to see how many days I have left until my next Disney trip......

The fact that I just got back from the World today and used the app on my iPhone countless times to check ride times in WDW....

Yeah, I think it is a relevant and appropriate to post his passing here.

RIP! :littleangel:

He's not associating Steve with Disney, he is questioning the validity of how his news of death relates to trip planning....That is what this part of the forum is for, planning a trip, correct? What does Steve Jobs have to do with me planning my trip next month? Oh ya, NOTHING..Im not a moderator but this thread does belong in the company news section as it relates squarely on Himself and his relation to the Disney Company, not how a person strategizes how they are going to hit a theme park.

What it really comes down to is that you really find yourself on a "home" board. I post on the TPA&S board more than I post on any other board. I "know" the regulars here better than I "know" the regulars on other boards. Sometimes you post things where you are most comfortable.

I appreciate the point, this board is specifically for theme park strategy, and is kept to that for the most part so that is does not become clogged with irrelevant topics. But when a man who was as important to our generation as Steve Jobs dies, I believe the board can absorb a thread about it without interfering with anyone's park strategy planning.
As for the other guy....well, I don't really see how pic after pic of him and his wife dressed up like gepetto and pinnochio will help me plan my park days...but I didn't make nasty comments about it.
