Sad news,need to fly to Sarasota, FL

Hi, Hope someone can help me. I had a friend pass away yesterday in Sarasota,Fl. I have only flown into MCO in Fl. What would be the closest airport to Sarasota?? Also any hotels that could be recommended?? Thank you so much!

There is an airport in Sarasota (Sarasota Bradenton Airport), however, depending on where you are flying from may have limited flight options. Tampa is about 40 miles from Sarasota; you may have better luck with flights from there. I have been traveling to Sarasota frequently the last few months. There are two hotels right outside the Sarasota airport grounds that I would recommend. Hyatt Place and Hampton Inn are on University Parkway, which is the road directly outside the airport. Both hotels are right across the street from the airport. And, there is also a Holiday Inn close to the airport too. Hope this helps.

Sarasota/Bradenton actually has it's own airport; SRQ is the code.

Quick look: BOS to SRQ, one stop. Either US Air, with stop in Charlotte or Air Tran with stop in Baltimore, are the most reasonable.

Providence, RI (PVD) to SRQ, one stop is about triple the BOS-SRQ cost.

Bradenton/Sarasota is really spread out. You may want to find out where the services and burial are going to be before booking your hotel. The hotels close to the airport may be 30 minutes or more from where you need to be.

You obviously don't know when you are going. But, you might want to watch the weather forecast for the next few days. Driving to the Providence airport may be easier for you, if it snows a lot, than driving to Logan. But, you may have more options from Logan to SRQ. Good luck.

Another option is to fly into Fort Myers (RSW) as well since Sarasota is not far north of there.

I am sorry for your loss... it is never fun. My mom winters on Long Boat Key and we visited last winter. We picked my sister up from SRQ and it is super easy to get in and out.... it's a very small airport. SRQ is a nice airport that is easy to navigate.

Tampa is about 1 to 1.5 hours north and Ft Myers is the same south.
