Ok, so we test drove a VAN Friday nite. DH & I talked about it all weekend and decided to go ahead and make the move from a car to a van. I am happy ALL day long ... fast forward to us at dealership.

I am still excited ... UNTIL I realize all that happened in that car:
-took us to meet our birthmom
-took her to dr many times
-met them for dinner/lunch/outings etc
-took us to the hospital when ds was born
-brought him home from the hospital
Trips to WDW and many other things!

I am not majorly depressed or anything just wondering if other moms are like this? DH thinks I have totally LOST it!

I haven't been that way with a car but I have a drawer full of t-shirts that don't fit but I can't throw them away because of the memories that are attached to them.

I completely understand that sentiment that can go with something like a car. We just got a new car last month because mine needed a new rack and pinion (which they said would be $1200) and they had all these great new deals. Then on the way to sell my car I realized that that was the car we brought Madison home from the hospital in, the 1st car she was ever in, then I started thinking about every place we went with that car and I got a little sad too. I do love my new car (which I should point out is the same type-both Explorers) though and I have forgotten about the old one pretty much.

I can totally relate.
We had a full size van that we traded in for our car.
We had sooooo much fun in the van.
Our boys had their own seats and we had the TV< VCR and all the good stuff.
Its hard to let go sometimes, but you will be making memories in your new vechilce.

Not the car but clothes I bought and all 3 of my girls wore. I even framed the dress they wore for their first offical pictures (they all wore it). I was SO glad to get my minvan. I always wanted one since being a Nanny in the late 80s and early 90s, now I have my own family and minivan, I just need a dog now.

I think its your dh that has lost it for not feeling the same way. Men sometimes;)

Have fun making memories in your new van.

I think one of the reasons DH likes us to have our babies at the hospital instead of at home is because he thinks he could never get me to move if I had a baby at home. :)

mine was my oldest DS's car. When he joined the army he had to leave his car. We left it parked in front of our house and somehow just looking out the window and seeing it there would give me so much comfort. When he went to Iraq, his cousin needed a car to drive to college and the family was trying to get me to sell his car to her. I talked to him and he said yes, sell it to her. It was so hard to see that car drive away and then to have to look and see that empty space out front.

My mom and other family members would say, "Aren't you glad to be rid of that car, it was just sitting out front." Truthfully, no I wasn't glad to be rid of the car, and I still miss it. I am sorry I let them talk me into selling it.

So to answer your question, I so understand how you feel!

I get that way about cars, to some degree (and so does my DH). I'm that way about clothes, too, especially the kids clothes. I have a lot of baby clothes that I need to get rid of, but it's hard admitting that that part of my life is over, even though I'm mostly glad it's over. Make any sense? :teeth:

Right now I'm extra an edge with my oldest going to college and my youngest to kindergarten, and anything and everything feels like it will set me off. Think my DH will let me get a kitten to help with this transition time? :rotfl:

Thanks guys - I was beginning to think dh was right I was losing it! :) I am not that way about clothes of ds's ... just the car.

p.s. after running errands today and filling up van at Target, I am almost over that sad feeling! :) LOL!

I was worse with Madison's clothes. I'm kinda getting used to it now, but gosh, those 0-3 month outfits were so hard to put away. I have to admit that I kept her in some longer than I should have just cause I couldn't bear to go up to the next size!

I was REALLY sad when we traded in the car we brought DS home from the hospital in. It was a great car. I miss that car.

Now that DS is 9 he gets really sad when we trade cars in. I had a Ford Taurus that I hated. We got rid of it almost 2 years ago, so DS was 7. He cried when we got rid of it.

We just got DH a new car two months ago and DS was sad that we got rid of the truck. I guess it is the same line of thinking - he remembers the fun times he had in the cars and feels sad that we won't have that vehicle anymore.

IN APRIL I GOT A NEW VAN AND THE WHOLE TIME I KEEP THINKING IM MAKING A MISTAKE CAUSE I LOVE MY TROOPER ..
MY HUSBAND KEEP SAYING LET IT GO WE NEED MORE ROOM ,THIS IS A DEPENDABLE CAR WHERE AS MY TROOPER WAS STARTING TO CAUSE SOME PROBLEMS , THAT STILL DIDN'T MAKE THE SWITCH ANY EASIER FOR ME ..

SO I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL :grouphug:

We just traded in an older mini van for a new one (things were starting to go on the old one) and I felt like I was betraying a friend. I spent a LOT of time in the old one and it never let me down or left me stranded. And of course, my kids went from ages 10 and 15 to 16 and 21 in that van, so we had plenty of adventures in it. Funny how we get attached to things!

it was the 1st car that we bought as a married couple, went on many trips to Nags Head, NY and to Fl.

We brought both of our girls home in that car too. The memories I want to forget is when dd was going through a time of car sickness ... I don't want to remember that :rotfl:
