Sacramento to DLR

Thank you all everyone is so helpful. We live in the middle of nowhere, drive 3+ hrs to the airpirt or out of yown regularly so 6 hrs or night driving is no big deal... 8 though takes it to the next level. DH asked about 99 vs 5 but I wasn't sure, any specific input there?

Not a huge difference. I like 5 better myself and I think that the speed limit is higher on 5 making it a faster trip.

Dh thinks 5 is faster...fewer towns that you're going thru. The one time we took 99 it took forever because we hit "rush hour" in each of those towns, lol. I think you're more likely to have cops that care how fast you're going if you're driving thru a more developed area...like pp's have said, 80-90 is the norm on 5 (which has a speed limit of 70), speed limit is only 65 on 99 & I'm going to guess pool drive 70-75 on it.

5 is a bigger road with better speed limits.
If I had to be in Anaheim at 11:30am but didn't want to miss time with family, I'd leave around 8 or 9pm and research inexpensive hotels toward Bakersfield. Then you have a shorter drive in the morning when it's crunch time.

I prefer 99. Why? More places to stop in emergency. More places to find a StarBucks. (It also takes me 20 mins longer to get to 5.) We are between 75-80 mph most of the drive. Only spot you might hit light traffic before LA would be Bakersfield. But most people prefer 5.
