I was talking to DF a couple of days ago about having an at home reception for people that couldn't make it to our DFTW and surprisingly he said that he wanted one This is coming from a man who doesn't want a photographer at his wedding because he doesn't want to pay for it, so I was shocked to say the least. Now I'm sitting here feeling a little overwhelmed by this. Should I rent a hall, have it in somebody's back yard? Go to a restaurant? I'd like to keep things very simple. Maybe even a bbq. Is that tacky?

Hi pink_tink. So, we're doing a reception at home too after our DFTW. I'll agree with you, it's very overwhelming. What is now our "reception" started out as a "little party." So, planning for Disney and the thing back at home feels like I'm planning two weddings. Two florists, two photographers...

We first rented a ballroom, which was much cheaper than most fire-halls... but it was all downhill from there. My helpful advice is to keep your life easy and be careful that you don't end up essentially planning a second wedding. In retrospect, I think a restaurant would be great. You don't have to decorate it. You don't have to look for a caterer. You won't feel the need to get a photographer. Good luck with it all

I just read your journal, and I have to say, I just love it when someone works so hard and puts so much effort into preparation. All the little touches that you've done to make it special for your guests just shows what a nice person you are. You've done an amazing job thus far!

I am having an at home reception which will take place in a fire hall. Thankfully my FMIL will be doing pretty much everything but I still have my list of duties...LOL. I don't see anything wrong with a bbq. That is what I was thinking of in the first place.

This is what we are probably going to be doing for our at home reception after the wedding as well. At first, I too was concerned that this would be tacky but the idea is growing on me! BF reminded me that fun and relaxed is not equal to tacky, LOL, even when it is a wedding (reception) we are talking about . Good luck with whatever you decide!

If you want to have it in a yard I see nothing wrong with it..less stress..I actually have to get my butt in gear..were having ours the 4th of July and I have things to get still. In june we have to order our cake.

Actually after the formality of your wedding it would probably be nice to have a nice casual relaxed party/bbq to chat with everyone and talk about your Disney wedding.

I never thought of it like that but it makes the most sense. Especially since I'm thinking of having it as soon as I get back from my disneymoon so the least amount of stress the better.

DF and I have a lot to discuss in terms of who we are inviting to our disney wedding. I think out of courtesy we should invite everybody as we know not everybody can make it and then those who can't make it can come to the at home reception if they so choose. DF doesn't like this idea because he would like our disney reception to be small but wants to have an at home reception. I think not inviting people to the initial wedding would leave a sour taste in some people's mouths i.e. I'm not good enough for the disney wedding but I'm good enough to give you a gift for your at home reception even thought we are going to state we don't want any gifts of any kind. We'll see what happens with that but in the mean time I went shopping yesterday and found the nicest invites for our at home reception or if we choose to invite the rest of the family.

It came in this kit, you get 25 invites, the decorations for the invites, the envelopes, the rsvp cards and the envelopes and I paid $8.99 for the whole thing!!!!!

I also found the cutest shoes that I could change into at my disney reception so I can be more comfortable

Sabrina -- LOVE the pink ballet shoes. Are they from Payless? I have a pair of AE flats from payless that are really adorable (unfortunately, they are NOT comfortable as there is no cushion between the ball of my foot and the floor, so I put a pair of gel cushions in the front). Definitely wear them around your house (and on non-rug) to be sure they are comfy enough for your big day!

I'm doing a BBQ "reception" at home after my DFTW. So no worries... I don't think it's tacky at all.

I know!!!! my cousin's boyfriend assumes he is invited but he hasn't even been dating my cousin for a long time and they aren't even that serious.

Yes! I got them at payless for $10. I wore them all day today. I didn't have any problem with comfort but maybe that is because they are slightly too big? I'm only going to wear them for the reception because DF is 6'3 and I'm only 5'4 so I'd like to look a little taller in our pictures otherwise we look awkward together.
