We are looking forward our first trip to BC....and SAB...in August! We are confused about the tube situation. We understand that we can rent tubes there. Are they really $10 / day ?!?! There are 4 of us, and we are planning daily visits to the lazy river...@ $10/day for each of us, that would not be manageable!

If we bring our own, are there any restrictions on size or color? Must they be clear?

Any info will be appreciated...

28 days to go !!!!!

I was told by one of the life guards that they are phasing out all the colored tubes and only clear will be allowed fomr "Some point" forward, but he didn't know what that point would be. So I would bring clear just to be safe.

Thanks for the info Anne. We will begin looking for clear tubes to take with us... not sure where to find them. Will try Target or Walmart...

Has anyone actually rented the tubes there lately? Are they really $10/day? Can that be right?

Can't wait to be poolside at SAB!

We rented a tube last month for $10/day. The lazy river is actually fairly short. We did it for about 30 mins then went back later for another 30 mins or so. While it was nice, its not an all day thing. So you might do fine by renting a tube and sharing it throughout the day. Also,we had a double tube like a figure 8 sort of,that held 2 people.

I just returned from a week long stay at the yacht club. The tube rental is $10/day or, I think, $3/hour. I brought my own tubes along and asked a lifeguard before using them. She told me as long as the tube wasn't huge I was ok. If you are really looking forward to using the pool, as I was, I suggest morning or evening. I always had breaks planned in the afternoon and almost every day the pool was closed for weather reasons. They have to remain closed for 30 minutes after seeing lightening. Which doesn't seem bad, but there were several days that after the 30 minutes was up that was when the next stike of lightening would be seen. The pool is awesome. Make sure you try the slide and whirlpool too! A small section of the pool was closed during the last part of our stay. They were working on one of the bridges that crosses the pool. Enjoy your stay ~ I sure did!

I think I'm missing something here: why do they care whether your tubes are clear?

It helps the lifeguards to see the bottom of the pool and quickly detect if anyone is in distress. A lot of water parks are going with this. Our local pool has a rule, see through or not at all.

sorry hit the button twice and tried to delete but it would not let me.

Yes, kidzmom3 is correct, it is much easier for us lifeguards to see the bottom of the pool with the clear tubes, along with seeing how a person is actually sitting in the tube. As of right now we only have 4 colored tubes and the rest are either clear single tubes or clear double tubes. To rent them is either $3 an hour or $10 a day. You do not have to use the tubes only in the lazy river. You can also use them in the large pool area. The only places you can use it while in that area is where the slide comes out or in the whirlpool area. And, no, you cannot use them in the quiet pool area (large pool area that only gets to 3ft. deep and has sand dune).

I hope this helps everyone out

Great SAB Info!

Thanks for the helpful responses. We are very excited about spending some quality time at SAB and want to know what to expect....we will be clear tube shopping!

If you are ever swimming around in the evening, try and find me.... I mainly work night shifts and there most nights. Name is John and will be in your standard lifeguard costume. I will be more than happy to help you out with any questions you have about the resort or any other disney info...

Thanks so much, John, for the kind offer. We'll be there 8/17 thru 8/24 and plan to spend many of those nights poolside! It will be good to have a DIS friend "in the know" there...

Jlp88, I was shopping yesterday and picked up 30" inflatable rings at the Dollar Tree. While not really "tubes", these are plenty big for an average size adult to use for SAB. They come in clear and in clear colors. At $1 each, we can afford to give them away when we're done instead of packing them home!

Hi everyone. I am new to this forum and find all of you so informative.
I have a question about these clear tubes for use at SAB. My family and I would love to bring our own tubes when we visit in a couple of weeks. However, I am unclear as to whether this is allowed or not. I really don't want to pack them if it is against the policy at the pool. Can anyone tell me if they have actually brought their own clear tubes and if this was ok. Thanks so much for any info anyone has on this subject.

Can we still use Funnnoodles?? John will you be there the end of Aug? We will be there also Aug 28-=sep 1.

John, I have an unrelated question for you. We're going in Jan (9-18). Will it be way too cold to swim at night (I know the pool is heated), but is it crazy to think about Jan. night swimming? Also, when does SAB close on Jan. nights?

(sorry to the OP, didn't mean to change the subject)

Good evening everyone! I will be more than happy to answer all the questions that have been posted here recently.

To disgirl: The official word about using tubes here at SAB is that you most certainly can bring your own, and no they do not have to be clear. The only exception to this is that the tubes cannot be bigger than ours and you can't bring the big animal floats. the floats that we have are a pretty good size (if you've been to any of the waterparks on property think that size). Remember that there are exceptions to where you can use the tubes as well. You cannot use the tubes in the whirlpool area as they are too big for that small space. You cannot use them on the slide for obvious reasons (for those that haven't seen it, the slide does not have a wide enough radius for tubes and people) and you may not use the tubes in the large sand bottom quiet pool area (the pool is not deep enough for such a use).

To tnkrbell: Of course you may use your funnoodles. In fact, i see more people bring the noodles than i do the tubes. they are everywhere. And yes, I will be there at the end of august.... My College Program doesn't end until the very beginning of January. More than likely i will be working those nights that you have specified. From what i understand right now (and this can change at any moment) sometime in mid August the pool hours will change and we will not be open as long at night. I do not know how long the pool will stay open but i do know that my hours will certainly change and i might be working all day. I will keep you guys posted when i know more.

To Jillpie: I see this question to be completely related to what is being talked about here. Personally i would think that you will be crazy to want to swim at night during that season. Average temps in January are in the 70s but i have been around here at all seasons and have known it to be in the mid 40s and 50s in the middle of the day. So will it be way too cold? For most it will be, and for the others..... well..... lets just say some people are more odd than others and will enjoy that polar swim :-).

I hope that this helps out everyone and of course, if at all you need any more info then please let me know.

Thanks so much, John, for all the great information. This is our first time at the Beach Club and are so looking forward to SAB. Hope to see you in two weeks. Thanks again.:)

Thanks for the info John~~ I hope the pool doesnt close too early when we are there! Ohwell it will still be great!!!
Ill be sure to say hi if I see ya!

I'm glad someone mentioned funnoodles :). We float around the lazy river (and the rest of the pool) on our noodles. You can slip one under your arms and kick or you can sit on one and just let the current take you around and around.
