With waaaaay too much time on my hands, here's the text of the letter MS is sending out regarding the SAB closure:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Disney Vacation Club Member,

We are pleased to have the opportunity to entertain you at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts and Disney's Beach Club Villas!

Since opening day, this resort has become increasingly popular with Disney Vacation Club Members and Walt Disney World Resort Guests. In order for Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts and Disney's Beach Club Villas to continue to flourish as a magical destination, it is necesary for us to make enhancements from time to time.

If you have stayed with us before, you are most likely familiar with our Stormalong Bay pool complex. Beginning November 1, 2004, the pool area will be under refurbishment. During this time, certain sections of the pool will be unavailable for use. However, the remainder of the main pool not impacted by the enhancement will be available for your enjoyment. We expect the initial refurbishment to be completed by December 23, 2004.

In order to ensure your vacation experience is the best possible, Dunes Cove pool at Disney's Beach Club Villas, Tidal pool at Disney's Beach Club Resort, and Admiral pool at Disney's Yacht Club Resort are within reach for your use. Additionally, as a Disney Vacation Club Member, you have the exclusive priviledge to "pool hop" and experience numerous themed pools across Walt Disney World Resort property (excluding Uzima Pool at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge), subject to pool hopping guidelines and pool availability. Please call ahead to the Front Desk of the destination hotel to check pool availability. We also request you utilize resort transportation to access other Disney resorts when pool hopping. You are welcome to speak to a Front Desk or Guest Services Cast Member for information on how to reach your destination.

We are glad you are a Member of our Disney family, and we look forward to your upcoming stay. If you have any questions regarding your reservation, please call Disney Vacation Club Member Services at (xxx) xxx-xxxx, option 3.

Sincerely,

Disney Vacation Club Member Services

Interesting. This is the first time I can recall seeing something in writing that discourages parking at a resort to pool hop.

Perhaps the complaints of registered guests regarding parking are finally starting to make a real impression on Disney management.

Can't help but wonder if this will become another factor in the future elimination of the pool hopping perk. Bet it's being talked about!

Best wishes -

Sounds like they are really trying to build up the pool hopping experience - "Exclusive Priviledge"

It would only make sense that they would suggest to use Disney transportation, as many people travel without cars. I doubt this has anything to do with discouraging parking at other resorts. They probably have a lot of inquiries on how people would get from resort to resort, so they are just trying to answer that question and avoid a question later.

I'm glad to see how many times they remind us of this perk! To me it means it's here to stay! Otherwise, they wouldn't encourage it so much!

I find it so interesting - no sarcasm - how different people have radically different interpretations of the exact same info.

Regarding pool hopping itself: DVC is "making unavailable" one of the biggest draws of BCV, so I saw the mention of PH as a way to defuse potential anger, not as a "vote.of.confidence". [IMHO - once the SAB and OKW pools refurbs are done, pool hopping will go the way of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. "Now that we at DVC provide an outstanding water slide at every DVC Resort at WDW, the option to pool hop will no longer be available. This way, the guests at every DVC Resort can rest assured that there will always be room for them at the pool of their "Home Away From Home." ;) ]

As for the "please use resort transportation" comment, I thought that it was because too many people were driving to pool hop and filling up parking lots. Honestly, we all know that the resort-resort transportation leaves much to be desired. If you're going to a resort primarily to pool hop and you have a car, you'll probably drive it; if you don't, then you really don't need to be reminded to take WDW transportation - that's all you've got.

Thanks for posting this message - every little bit of info helps to decipher the enigma that is Disney.

Thanks for the info! I'm not a BCV owner, but I'm staying there in January in the hopes to take advantage of SAB. Didn't I read another thread that talked about painting the slide in January? The letter didn't mention anything about that. Does anyone else remember hearing that?

Note the words "initial refurbishment." ;)

My stay is scheduled for mid-December. I'd be willing to bet that a different letter regarding January / February rehab will go out to members specifically impacted in that timeframe--perhaps not until closer to the actual date.

Hey! Does anyone know if there is a map of SAB somewhere? I can see general pictures, but if there was a detailed map somewhere, I would love to take a look...

The letter states "beginning November 1, 2004". Sorry! At least it's only a section at a time so it shouldn't be too bad.

Yep i caught on another thread that the Nov 1 phase will be the kiddie pool and the sandbar .. so I am guessing that maybe the slide and lazy river will be open what is really what we are interested in.. Thanks Michelle
