I am glad that this cruise is sold out already. That's about a quarter of a million DVC points that members can't use to make DVC reservations at DVC resorts. Even if a member cancels their cruise reservation those points are reservation points and can not be used to reserve a DVC villa.
Those points will probably be turned over to CRO. That should make cash reservations that much easier now that such a large number of points were used for the cruise.
Frankly I see this as a negative for a lot of DVC members. I'm not at all interested in making a cash reservation via CRO for a DVC property - I can't afford to simply throw away that kind of money.
While we don't have any actual figures, this type of thing must have caused lots of borrowing and so for at least the next 2 years we're likely to see lots of complaints that members cannot get reservations on points because the resort is being sold for cash.

...But, if the members had not used their points for the cruise - converting them to reservation points - then they would have used them at DVC resorts, instead - and reservations would not have been available for points, either... Does that make sense?!? So, like Dumbo says - at least there will be increased availability - even if only for cash...
