When I was a kid/teen, our church/school used to publish, for church members, not in a newspaper, people's names and their annual, Christmas and Easter contributions. I don't go to that church anymore. And I'm confident they don't do that anymore.

Yeah, that is what I thought. And once a year here they print the names, and address of people who are behind on their property taxes, complete with the amount they owe. But I think the law requires that to be published before the county can put a lien on the property for unpaid taxes. I guess one person's violation of privacy is another persons legal transparency.

all you need to know if someone's behind in their property taxes (and whose name a home is deeded in-including the full name of a trust if it's deeded that way) in a state with public access to these records is to hop on Zillow. there's a link to the assessor's website where it's all available to read. in fact-if a house goes up for sale in the neighborhood once it closes escrow you can find out who the new owners are and where they a from (cuz the property tax records show the address they provided PRIOR to closing).

I think some churches are kind of loosy-goosy with this b/c many post their weekly/quarterly bulletins on their websites where anyone can click on a link and read who is holding a weekly bible reading group at their home (name, address, time), special celebrations (baptism reception held at x's home in honor of their infant y-again address and time). I've seen full choir member and prayer group listings with contact information :faint: no password protection-all for the reading.

Those publications were separate multi-page printed booklets, segmented by $$$$ categories. Like $0-100, $100-500, $500-1,000, $1,000-5,000, etc. And then within each category, the actual dollar amount of each parishioner/family.

Reminds me of a co workers church.

He joined the membership committee to help modernize the process of bringing in new members.

At his direction they started asking for a prior years tax return or w2 so they could determine your individualized tithing schedule.

I dunno, if I did something as stupid as what the woman did at the baseball game, then yeah I could see people going to great lengths to figure out who I was.

Also to the ones who say they don't have much of a footprint online or have a common name....don't underestimate someone who REALLY wants your dox lol.

That would make everybody comfortable.
