S/O Coronavirus School Closing considered in your area?

Schools here are closed. I have an infant, and her daycare is not closed (as of now). They said they won't essentially unless instructed to by authorities.

My husband and I are working from home and will not be sending her to daycare until we have to physically go back to work. I am trying to figure out if I should pull her or not... with a potential recession looming I don't think we should be throwing away 1k+ month on daycare we're not using - but I also don't want to be stuck without childcare in case this all works out. Sucks. Really wish they'd just close or offer options for parents (maybe pay so much to hold spot).
Hard decision to make yet understanding about saving money. I'm assuming we'll be in a recession soon enough and every dollar saved from non essentials will be needed/wanted in the near future. During a recession childcare providers will be jumping for joy for every client they can get.

One thing about Minnesota’s school closure announcement — they announced that schools would remain open for healthcare workers and emergency personnel. So, that is interesting. Smart, but will they need to consolidate students to certain locations to make this viable...

My son goes to Penn state and they start remote classes Monday. All k-12 schools in the state of PA are closed for a minimum of 2 weeks.

Earlier today we got word that schools would be closed tomorrow, now just found out it's until April 20th.

All schools in Michigan are closed. As of now my school district is closed until April 13th, our spring break starts April 2nd.

I’m on Long Island. My district had already announced on Friday that we were closed Monday and Tuesday for ’deep cleaning’. At 3 pm today we found out that all schools in Nassau and Suffolk Counties are closed for the next two weeks. NYC announced that they would close until April 20 and potentially until the end of the school year!!! Yipes!!!

Edit to add link to Mayor de Blasio’s very somber speech.

The schools in my immediate area are on spring break now but I missed this info on 3/13. In the County the 6 school districts released a joint statement which I've never seen them do, stating the following:

"As partners in community health, the six school districts of Johnson County, Johnson County Government and the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment are in the process of collaborating and accumulating data regarding the continuation of school following spring break.

The districts are currently deep cleaning and disinfecting buildings while students and staff members are on spring break.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment and the Kansas Department of Education advised against school closures at this time. Although they have advised against a closure, we would like parents to be aware that a closure may become necessary in the future.

Before we return from spring break, we will continue to evaluate the implementation of the interim guidance from the Kansas Department of Health and the Environment Kansas Department of Education.

As we collaborate with local health officials, we will provide additional information as soon as it becomes available."

3 of the 6 school districts are commonly called "the big three" and they often make the same decisions when we're talking about incliment weather meaning if 1 closes down nearly all the time the other 2 will follow suit. But to have all 6 school districts come together is quite the thing.

Keep in mind the bolding which is something a poster, either on this thread or another thread, posted a link in respects to school closures, how long and their potential impacts to the community.

Our school are closed - just about every school distinct 100 miles north and West of New York City,NY are closed

Middle Tennessee. Our county public schools have already been closed 7 school days. This coming week is Spring Break, so they're off, but the admin has not made any decisions past that.....so far we have 14 cases in the county.

I'm in RI (schools closed down Friday) and very close to Massachusetts. Mass just announced that schools are closed for 3 weeks and all dine-in restaurants are closing - takeout and delivery only.

NEW CDC guidance: No gatherings over 50 people for 8 weeks. No gatherings of *any size* w/o social distancing, hand hygiene & protecting vulnerable populations.

That just made me cry. :guilty:

As- thanks ! She's ok - this Dis dad and my kids moved in with her last year to help take care of her, so the little ones are trying to keep her upbeat, although I don't think she's enjoying "Zombies 2" very much ! Maybe she will be more of a "Stargirl" gal !?
