S/O Coronavirus School Closing considered in your area?

Private college in Orange County NY just announced they will be going to online classes until the end of this month. Currently there are no confirmed cases in that county so I'm kind of surprised that they have done that before SUNY Purchase or Manhattanville or the other schools in Westchester have.

I really hope this doesn't become the norm for all schools, my ds is in a tech program and can't do his work at home, he needs the lab facilities at the school.
I wonder what happens to those students, they are going to have to make up all that missed work.
Some of the schools/colleges I read about switching to online are leaving the option open for lab teachers to still hold classes.

:( Fordham is not. I'm trying to remember what I read last night that said which ones were leaving labs & some arts open.

My son came back from Spring Break yesterday and went to his classes at St. John’s University in Queens. At the end of the day they announced in person classes would not be held for the rest of March, and resident students are to return home if possible. Online learning will be employed until at least April 1st.

Our school district is closed on Monday for the teachers to learn how to teach remotely, kids will log in for a test run.

My dd and my ds are both at SUNY schools. Each one of them texted me today and said there is talk of cancelling Spring Break and finishing the semester a week early.
Neither are happy about it.

Our schools in Northern Virginia just gave the kids a day off next week so teachers can be trained for any contingency plans they activate.

Our kids had school yesterday but were notified at the end of the school day that the school district will be closed for the rest of the week for a deep cleaning. A parent was exposed due to being a caregiver of someone who was confirmed positive, so her and her child self-quarantined. We have 8 presumptive positives in my county (Montgomery County, PA).

What a difference a day makes... Now we have 4 local colleges (3 private) around me closed. Hofstra, Adelphi, Nassau & Malloy. Both my kids SUNY schools still open, but both schools switching to campus online courses. Mandatory attendance still in place at Purchase, not Cobleskill. Purchase they can still use the Art Studio.

The staff of my county have been told to take their laptops and any teaching material they might need home with them every day incase they do not return the next day.

It is only a matter of time before the kids and staff are told to stay home and classes occur online.

My daughters college is starting Spring break 3 days early and said be prepared that you may be delayed getting back. My sons college is starting spring break on time but will be doing online classes for at least a few weeks after break. For my daughter we just got word this afternoon about this and they want everyone out of the dorms by noon tomorrow!

Where are the colleges?

Our older kids’ college starts Spring Break next week. One university in our state (Vanderbilt) is going to online classes at least through 3/30.

My kids received an email about the possibility of online classes, but that’s it.

My sister goes to a church w/ a girl who goes to a college in Alabama, & she was home over the weekend. Because she was in an infected area (TN), she’s been told she has to self-quarantine at home for 2 weeks before she can return to college in Alabama. I’m not sure which college it is.

Yeah, I'm worried about the same - DD has two lab classes and a language class with a mandatory conversation component. I'm concerned with how all of that will be handled if they go to online-only contingency plans, and even more concerned about the possibility of dorm and dining hall closures because she's 2600 miles from home. So there's no making up the time with summer classes, or even staying close enough to attend classes if they decide to shut down everything but labs as some schools are doing. But the Bay Area is one of the hardest hit and there are several students self-quarantined over possible exposure, so extreme measures are a very real possibility. They're on spring break now so I doubt we'll hear anything definitive until next week.

I just got an email from our daycare today- they are starting twice daily temperature checks (at drop off and then after lunch) now. Any fever will be sent home. Now, they have always had a fever free for 24 hour policy, BUT for those familiar with babies/toddlers/preschool, they often run low grade non contagious fevers (my son always ran at 99.7-99.9 for about a week when cutting teeth and my daughter ran a 100 degree fever for 3 weeks last year for an ear infection. She was cleared by our doctor as non contagious while her ears just fought it off, I personally have run a fever for urinary tract infections while waiting for the antibiotics to fight things off which is also common in young kids). So I know the daycare used some discretion in the past to evaluate fever source and if kids were otherwise healthy and had drs notes they could attend...that has past and they had to send home quite a few kids today.

I think this is the first step in a hard close, and while we could work at home and turn on a movie for a 5+ year old kid, it’s going to be a real struggle to work while also caring for a 2 year old.

Not yet. Dgd's school system sent an email in regards to staying home if certain symptoms. As well as they will have a more robust sanitizing of schools and buses.

Our school system that had a teacher confirmed will be closed again tomorrow. Then Thursday every school except the two the teacher taught at will reopen. The two schools, one closed for another week, the other two weeks. AND the fire house that responded to school when teacher got sick ... closed. DON'T THEY PRACTICE FOR THIS TYPE OF THING AND RESPOND ACCORDINGLY. I never even thought about them starting to close emergency services. Of course, it's early I imagine we'll be dealing with this again in the school system.

METRO ATLANTA

PS Went to see Onward tonight. Really enjoyed it. DS2 said it made him think it would be the Goofy Movie of this time. Great to have a boy centric movie that feelings are okay, a special relationship with family etc. I think there were plenty of little details that are easy to miss so I'll watch it again.

Several Ohio colleges have gone to online learning (started 3/10) including the school our daughter attends. She's a senior working on her senior thesis research project. She got lucky. They are allowing time sensitive projects to continue, so she and one grad student are allowed to continue their project. But they have to ensure they are not in the lab space together at the same time. She will complete her thesis defense by skype. She does have one course with a lab component, and she hasn't yet heard how that was going to be handled.

WVU is also suspending in person classes after spring break. AFAIK there aren't any *confirmed* cases in WV yet.

I hope you hear some good news.
My dd's spring break starts Monday, they told the students to bring home all necessary work in case they move to all online classes before it ends.
She's doing her Capstone this semester, there is stuff she can do on her own but she also needs the lab facilities, she said she hasn't heard any information on what happens to her and other students if they move to all online.
My ds still hasn't heard anything at all, his Spring break isn't for another couple weeks. I'm hoping they leave the lab facilities open on his campus but I am worried they won't.
