S/D price increase?

Read on another thread that there is talk about a price increase, searched and read glo & dreamflight but didn't find it there. Any info? Can they change the price if we are already booked? or is it just for new ressies? Thank you, MKY

My sister just tried to make a ressie (gov't employee) for November, and was told the rate had already increased to $149.

So does our price go up? I know if you book disney resorts before the "price is out" for that time period they will change the price to the new offered rate. Now I'm confusing myself. MKY

the Government rate is not set by the hotel per say, they are given a maximum amount they can charge per night set by the Federal government. The maximum differs from city to city, and there is a chart available for what the maximum government rates per city on some government website that I can not remember what the name is but is on some Governmental website i once read. This maximum goes up almost every year and when I went tot theDolphin back in Nov of 99 I believe I paid $119 for government rate.

If you already have a confirmed reservation, the price will not change. The price increase only affects new reservations. It isn't supposed to go up until tomorrow (May 1st).

I booked today for October for the 129 rate and was told that it is going up tomorrow. Anything made today can still get the 129 rate! Yes your rates are secure if they are already made

I was just reading an article that said Starwood was raising the rates at all their hotels. Here's the blurb from today's (4/30) New York Times

Sure enough, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, which owns Sheraton, Westin and other brands popular with business travelers, announced last week a 5 percent nationwide price increase effective tomorrow..

FYI: For people with existing reservations. If you make any changes, be careful...I used points to upgrade a reservation made at the old rate. When the upgrade went through, the rate came up at the new rate. I spoke with Starwood, and it is supposed to be corrected tomorrow morning. I'm sure it will be corrected,but double check to be sure.

I'm not trying to be difficult, but this just can't be true. If the federal government set prices for its employees, then ALL hotels -- including the really expensive ones like the Grand Floridian and the Polynesian -- would have to offer the same rate (129, 149, or whatever).

The teacher/nurse/gov't employee rate you are discussing here is not a true "Gov't" rate. The $129/$149 is a rate set by the hotel and is not tied to the Federal Government's official per diem rates.

True Gov't per diem rates are for Federal Government employees travelling on official gov't business. Hotels don't have to offer this rate. I have no idea if the S/D do. Hotels that do offer the rate can ask for official Gov't travel orders as proof of being on official Gov't business, but many don't. FYI the Orlando Gov't per diem hotel rate is $95 for 2002.
