S/D Experts - got a ? re: booking with SPG Points

Question for all you S/D experts - here's my scenario...

I have enough points for 4 nights at the S/D, and I hope to utilize SPG's "stay 4, get the 5th night free" deal. My question - we will be using these 5 nights for a trip this spring, but due to work/conference schedules, don't know exactly when those dates will be as of yet. However, I'd like to get something held in their reservation system, and then change when our dates become more solidified (especially since we might be looking at the busier Spring Break season).

Is it possible to change your dates, once you've made a reservation using SPG points? Do they give you any problems? I've only made a reservation using SPG points once at the last minute, so I'm not sure how they handle things.

Any help/advice would be appreciated. TIA!

I think they will cancel the existing ressie and return your points to your account. Then they book the new ressie if there is availability for your new requested nights. Having a reservation in their system won't really help if you want to switch your ressie for nights which show no availability.
