I'm hoping you all can help me. I'm looking at possibly renting points for a week in early December 2009. I know very little about DVC (other than I"d like to own it someday...;) )

I think I need a 2 bedroom - there will be 5 adults and a 2 year old. How do I figure how many points I will need? Are different resorts different points? Would I have better luck at one vs another? Will that time of year be really hard? And how soon should I start looking for points?

If I do this, can I still use the dining plan, magical express and all that stuff?

Thanks for putting up with questions I'm sure you've all seen before.

Jen

Here are some short answers to your questions.

If you click on the "Timershare Store" link about, it will bring you to our sponsor's webpage. From there you can find the point charts for all the resorts. Most are similar to this one (for SSR)

Yes, you'll need a 2 bedroom. If you look at the point chart, you can see how many points you'll need - weekends are more points, and late december is more points than early.

Points aren't that different between the resorts at WDW - the biggest difference is at OKW, where the rooms are usually less points per night.

OKW and SSR are the easiest places to get a reservation, but all of December is tough. Good thing you are planning far in advance.

When you "rent points" what you are really doing is having an owner make a reservation for you, then paying them to use it. Owner can make reservations at their resorts 11-months out, at other resorts 7-months out. Much of December is booked before the 7-month mark, so it's best if you can line up points to rent from somebody who owns at the resort you want.

The owner you rent from can add the dinning plan (you'll pay when you check in) and get you magic express.
