Has anyone rented a home this way. I just found a wonderful house, emailed the owner and the price seems to good to be true. Are there any special precautions you would suggest taking when renting directly from an owner? Thanks,
Chrissy

We have rented two times in Windsor Palms through owners on VRBO. We had a great experience with each of them. We already knew the development existed and we selected each home based on price, availability, ammenities, etc.

Each owner happened to live in the UK but the response time to any questions was amazing. (much faster than any hotel I've stayed at) Their contracts were very similar and answered most every question but a few did come up and they were great about getting back to us. Each of them followed up with us after our trip to make sure we enjoyed ourselves and to ask if there was anything we felt they could add to their home for future guests.

Quite a few people here have rented directly through owners and several owners post as well so I'm sure you can find out lots of info from them or through a search.

If something in your contract doesn't seem right then absolutely question it. There are literally hundreds of choices of homes and condos for rent in the Disney area so you are never limited.

Also, many people here can give you a direct reference for a home or condo that they have used.

Do you have a specific development in mind? Also, a certain size house or requirements (beds/baths)?

I rented a home in Green Valley Az. from the VRBO website last May. It turned out out to be a fantastic experience. The home was at Quail Creek, a Robson community, where we are having a home built also. We rented the same model we are building. The home was wonderfully furnished with every amenity one could want. The owner sent us a contract which we returned with the deposit. I think each owner sets the terms of deposit and payment. The only aspect of the deal that made me nervous was the $500.00 was non-refundable. We only rented this home for a week and they usually rent on a monthly basis. Our experience was great. The nightly rental worked out to $75.00, much better then a hotel room.

You are dealing with an individual, and so there is a certain amount of trust required on both sides. That said, renting directly from an owner can get you the very best possible deal. If the price is much lower than other, similar properties *in that subdivision* directly from other owners, you might wonder. But, offsite direct-from-owner homes ARE incredibly affordable.

We have rented from VRBO twice with no problems. Once at Myrtle Beach and once at Hilton Head Island. No problems, we just spoke directly with the owners and both places were great. :cheer2:

We have rented four different homes, all good experiences. I ask for the name and number of the local management company. That helps get me to my comfort zone. Also, in each case the owner called and talked to us on the phone. I guess it is a leap of faith for the owner as well to trust these nice homes to renters.

We've rented directly from different owners several times and have not had a problem. I definitely get information on the local management company as mentioned above, and I've also verified ownership of the home through http://ira.property-appraiser.org/.

I have rented once from an owner in Windsor Palms through VRBO. It's a great site and I highly recommend it.
