Hi everyone,
I've got ressies for POR the third week in June this year. Some of the comments made since it was announced that POFQ and parts of POR will be rennovated have made me start to reconsider. So - are the rooms at POR in good enough condition that it won't detract from the trip? I'm worried I'll be disappointed by the rooms or have some distracting work going on. Also hoping the boat to DD will still run. I try to stay somewhere different each trip. Done ASMo twice so want to be in a moderate (for $ reasons) this time. Stayed at CBR last year and it was great but been there twice too, only other moderate would be CSR which honestly the theme doesn't do much for me (I'm originally from the southwest) and I think the landscape there would be pretty hot in June (not a lot of shade I hear). So - would you stay at POR, go back to the lovely CBR, or give CSR a chance?

What do you think? Can anyone give me info from recent trips to POR?
Thanks very much :)

We just returned after 7 nights at POR. IMHO, I was disappointed with the resort. Although the only other on-site resort we've stayed at was POFQ (which I thought was much better). The room we had was ok, but in need of rehab, so I guess it is a good thing they are starting the rehabs there. We stayed on the Alligator Bayou side, maybe the mansion side would be better. I thought the pools were nice, but the food court and the sit-down resteraunt (Boatwrights) we're just "ok". Not much of a selection at the food court, mostly burgers, pizza, chicken fingers and so on. The eggs at breakfast were always dried out and hard. Ick. But the chocolate chip pancakes were wonderful. Most CM's were always very friendly, although we had problems getting the bed rails we requested. They were requested at time of reservation, time of check in and 2x after we were already in the room. I thought that was a bit much. We also had a problem w/ the bussing. Only one time though. The day we elected to do the AK, it took 4 busses before there was room for us to get on. This was, however, on an EE day and being that they pick up at the FQ first then that caused the problem. But FQ will be closed then so that would help. Over all I guess the resort was ok, and I'm not usually very picky, but this resort just didn't seem to have that extra spark of Disney magic. IMHO. If you have any specific questions, please ask. But wherever you stay, just remember it's Disney! How can you not have a good time!

Thanks for the reply. That's just the kind of thing I'm worried about. I'm seriously thinking I should change to CSR or go back to CBR. This is more of a budget trip so I didn't want to move up to a deluxe, have done the All Stars and am not really into staying there again so - I know I overthink this but the resort is important to me.

Search isn't working for me, I guess I'll try to read back through some posts to see what kind of reviews the other mods are getting lately.

Thanks again.

POR is my favorite resort. We were there last August, in the AB section, and our room was in great shape. We never eat breakfast at the food court, but the lunch and dinner items offer a lot of variety. We have stayed at almost every resort (not CS though) and the POR food court is by far the best. The quiet pools are nice bacause they are never crowded (at the end of August). I'm sure that the boat will still run. We don't usually take the buses, so I can't give you any information about the transportation.

We are going to WDW with my sons band in 2004 and are staying at the All Star Music. My son keeps begging for us to get rooms at POR!

Appreciate the response - I'm glad to hear you had a good room and the grounds do look beautiful, very peaceful. It's hard to decide. I guess if I got a room I didn't like I could request another - even though I know I might not be able to move if the resort is full. I wonder what POFQ's closing will do to capacity at the other moderates - especially POR?

I'm looking for all reviews - anyone else?

Thank you.

We're going back for our 3rd visit in a row to POR and have always been pleased with our room. We have always stayed in the mansions section before but this time want to try AB just for a change. We all enjoy the food court. Burgers, pizza, and chicken fingers are pretty much what we eat on vacation :D , so the selection seemed fine to us, but you can get more (here's a menu).

Walks along the beautiful tree lined paths by the river are what keep us coming back...

GaDisneyDad, sorry to disappoint you, but the menu is not what was available this past week. The only things available were the bayou burgers on down. The first part of the menu does not exist, or at least it didn't this past week when we were there. I guess that's why I was so disappointed with the food court. I had read the menus from Deb's site and went expecting more than was there.

We have resv at POR for June 6-15th and are strongly considering changing resorts. We have been to DW many times and have stayed at the Poly, CR, WL, CB and the CSR, so this time we thought we'd give POR/POFQ a try. We made resv. for POR thinking we would have the benefit of both resorts. A couple year ago we stayed at the CR and it was going through some renovations and we were very disappointed. There was always noise from early morning to late afternoon. Our air conditioning was out one night and the front desk said they didn't know anything about it or workers beind in the area. Needless to say we were put in another room ( the only one they said available) way at the other end of the resort. Where we had to walk through more renovations to get to where we were going.
This will be our 1st time at the POR and don't want it to be stuck somewhere where we don't want to be.

I know, I'm thinking the same thing. I think I'd love to stay at POR AFTER the rennovation. We stayed at CBR last year in a recently rennovated room and it was lovely, spotless. I've already switched to CBR with a code rate. If I get an email or postcard for a deluxe I may consider moving into one of those.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

We also have ressies for PO-R June 15 to 21st.. I do not like the looks of the food choices at CSR ( or the layout of the hotel ) but the pool looks very cool.. we have done CBR before and I will be keeping my ressies and hope it all works out.. If it doesn't or is really bad ( noise , room ect.. ) then I will complain at the front desk and see what happens . I am going with a positive attitude though as you know its vacation in DISNEY !!! Michelle

I say consider how much time you actually spend in the room...is it going to bother you tremendously if the carpet has a small stain or the corners of the bathroom are not completely shining. i know that this sound bad as I am typing it, but I mean everything needs rehab at some time and I have never seen a disney resort get "run down" before they renovate. usually things are showing a little wear when they start, but i highly doubt that it would affect your vacation at disney where it's all about the parks, pools and vacation attitude. i know for some that the room is very imprtant as they spend a lot of time there, but if you plan on being out the majority of the day I bet you wouldn't even notice that things may need a spuce up.

POR has so much going for it with it's beauty. layout, newly renovated pool, etc I wouldn't change if i were you. We have ressies there in Oct!!!:Pinkbounc

Bigsis1970, We have stayed at the CSR many times and this is one of our favorite resorts. The food court Pepper Market has many food choices all cooked or prepared right then and there. Not like other courts, and they also have the Maya Grill which is a sit down place for a buffet breakfast.
As far as the layout of the resort goes, I think you just have to know in what area you want to stay. We prefer the Casitas.
The bus service can't be beat. Once you get on a bus you know exactly where it is going. You don't have to stop at any other resorts and you only have 4 bus stops.
My concerns with staying at the CBR our the many bus stops and the food court.
I'd like to switch to the AKL with a discount rate or back to CSR but CSR does not offer discount at this time.

I stayed at POR for the first time in December and I really liked it! The room was nice, very clean and close to a pool! We stayed in Alligator Bayou #27, which was very close to the food court and a short walk to the buses. I would like to stay in the Mansions next time, as they look really cool!

Have fun wherever you decide to stay! :)

I have chatted with the other gal traveling with me and we have decided to stick with POR ( her children a little and she thinks maybe too little for the slide at that pool and to walk long to the food court - However I might try it myself next time.. ) Thanks again.. Michelle
