When you bring your own alcohol does your room steward keep the bottles for you or are you allowed to keep them in your room? A friend of mine that has travelled on other cruise lines said their room steward kept their bottles and when they wanted them they had to "check them out" from their steward. Does DCL do this? I plan on bringing my own to help out on costs...I know I have to pour out whatever we do not drink before we leave the ship, but wasn't sure about the rest. Also..if you take your own wine will they serve it at dinner? Is there a cork fee? Thanks! :drinking:

 You most certainly can keep your own...There is a corking fee of 15$ per bottle, some have been charged, and others report not being charged...I would keep it with you in your room, the CM's have parties too... :earseek: We gave our most grateful servers, what we had left (quite a bit)... :goodvibes

having done this, I feel qualified to field this question. The corkage fee only applies if you take your own wine into the dining room. We kept copious amounts in our room for our own entertainment. DH and I travel with a group quite often, and we had a certain spot we would hang out in the evening after dinner ( I would tell you where that location is, but then I would have to kill you :smooth: can't have everyone know where our secret hangout is)
Take your own, and enjoy!

You can certainly pour a glass of wine in your room and take it to dinner with you also. Has been some lively discussion of this on this board, but it is ok to do this.

Does anyone know if you have to bring your own wine glasses or can you request some to be in your room? Don't get me wrong..I will drink it out of the bottle ;) but there is something about holding a wine glass that feels good to me :cloud9: Also, can you bring your own beer? Not that I would, but just curious...

You can request the glasses in your room..No problem. We had our own beer (shirley :cloud9: )....We did run out..But definitely saved some $$$$$$$$$$$

You can ask your room steward to get wine glasses for you. They have no problem with this...think about the REAS where you get a bottle of champagne with it. They expect to bring you glasses to drink it out of. And yes, you can bring your own beer. No problem with that also.

Do you mean you can take the bottle to dinner, or can we walk around with a glass? Which also brings me to wonder, like can you pour yourself a glass in your room, then walk with it to a deck somewhere?

We didn't take any to dinner (DH liked to try the "drink of the day" EVERYDAY) but you would catch us most evenings out on deck 4 after leaving Rockin' Bar D with the Smirnoff Twisters we brought from home. We choose to have ice delivered to our stateroom 2x/day which kept the drinks cold and then we would just go back to our room to pick them up when we wanted them. It was so wonderful to be able to sit on a lounge chair with a cold drink in one hand and watch the ocean go by.... I can practically feel the breeze...
Cheers!

I took mine. Glad I didn't have to "check it out" with the room steward. If the vacation was going nicely...that poor soul wouldn't have had time to clean any rooms! "Nope, sorry...can't get to your room now..Jim wants to "check out" another drink!"

I always travel with a couple of Bottles of Bailey's Irish Cream.

It is a great way to make friends.

How do you know when it's time to bring it out?

You just know.

On our last cruise, on Xmas Eve 2003 as we were at the Cozumel Sail away party, I realized "It was time."

I got the deck bar to lend us some wine glasses, and before you know it, "Festivus: was in full swing.

So, bringing the Baileys on was quite easy. Bought it in FL the night before sailing, wrapped it carefully in our Carry on, and kept it cool in the room fridge.

No fuss, no muss.

Cost on shore of two baileys: $40

Seeing your best new friends pretending they are ornaments spinning on deck of the Magic : Priceless.

If you take the bottle you will likely be charged the corkage fee. You can take a glass with you and walk anywhere on the ship with it. Well, maybe not in the kids clubs, but anywhere else. If you buy a glass of wine in Sessions or Promenade Lounge and do not finish it before dinner you can also take that with you.

When my friend told me about her experience on the cruise she went on with having to "check out" the alcohol she brought I thought about the same thing! How would they get any work done? :cool1:

I took a bottle of tequilla and a bottle or two of margarita mix and kept them in the room. I bought a festive disney drink glass- great souvenier- and mixed the drinks myself. Just added ice when I went on deck....
Bought 3 drinks the whole time- what a savings! and left my left overs with my cabin steward
Happy sailings!
