Has anyone turned their screen door into a storm door? How did you do it? What was the cost?

There has been discussion about putting lexan or plexiglass over the screen. Check out rv.net they even has photos. Hope this helps.

could use shrink wrap plastic that they sell for covering windows up here in the north. that would work.

Denise,
what benefits do you get with this? does it cut down on drafts? act as insulation?
thanks,

The shrink wrap gives you the benefit of quick application and if you want to remove it quick removal. Plus you can store a box of it in your RV or TT and it only takes up a tiny space. Plexiglas if you don't want it on then you have to have somewhere to store it in your trailer.

Mainly so Bailey :dog:and us get to look in/out while keeping the heat/A/C inside.

ah, gotcha...that makes sense. I use that plastic stuff for my house windows in the winter but hadn't thought about using it for my RV...great idea!

The dogs love being able to look out with it on.

Ours had a previous life as a rental, so it came with a piece of plexi over the lower section of the screen door that I assume was installed by the rental dealer. We left it on since we have two dogs :) It is just a square cut to size and screwed to the metal frame of the door. I can't imagine it would be more than $10-20 to do this.

I did this with my door in may before a trip down to FW. I found a local glass shop that also wholesaled lexan. yes go w/ lexan think cost was under $100 for 4x8 with cuts. Then took jig saw and back cut the edges to fit.

I sold rest for full cost- this was a was deal- advertised lexan for hunting blind.... on craigslist!!!

I put two pieces - top and bottom, then also cut 1"-2" finger holes in top of each pc so I could pull out if need be. I also used vecro to secure on lips around screen.

I am not to worried about the air flow as much as my 50 lbs lab going through the door for a squirrel or an armodillo. problem solved and my wife loves the light and that we can see our kids out front.
