Russell from Disney's UP

We are taking our DB9 and DS7 to DLR in July and I've recently discovered DB9's favorite Disney character is Russell from UP.

We share the same Father but he has managed to hurt everyone around him through his personal choices and doesn't make the effort to father these two kids, so I have a feeling that he identifies with Russell because his Dad is not present in his life. The last time we made it out to Texas to visit them, he had the Wilderness Explorer shirt so that idea is out, but I was hoping to get him a Russell gift but I cannot find anything! Is he ever around the parks? Any ideas how I can make this trip extra special for him? Thanks in advance!

There is a total lack of UP merchandise. I love Up too! Before our trip I went to Esty and got a set of six grape soda pins for $20 made from real bottlecaps. I can tell you the seller if you are interested. We got stopped over and over by cast members loving the pins. There is an official disney grape soda pin but it doesn't look as good as the Etsy one because that one is a real bottle cap. I haven't seen any other Up pins in the park so I would try to get stuff online before you go.

I've searched online for something besides the plush dogs and haven't had too much luck. I did consider another shirt but it's really hard to beat the Wilderness Explorer one! Grape soda pins would be so awesome to give him. I would love to know where you got them. Thank you so much!

OP I don't see them now, but in the past the bottlecap pins have been on Disney Movie Rewards (where I got one for DH) and more recently on Disney Movie Club (but I don't see them now).

You could probably find one on ebay, if you think he'd prefer a 'real" one to an approximation.

And I just googled "etsy grape soda" and found a few examples of people making them.


Sorry your shared dad is like Russell's. Both DH and I know about how that feels...I actually feel bad for my half-sibs because they had to grow up with our dad in the same house...poor kids. From my much older perspective, especially after watching them, I can see that as rough as it is being little and having an absent father...sometimes it's a better deal. Impossible to realize that just b/c someone else did, though...gotta get there on your own. Hugs to you guys.

I was reading on another website about a store that is close to GRR in DCA. From what I read it sounds like they may have a little selection of items more geared toward explorer/adventure stuff. Anyone have any idea about this little spot and maybe some specifics on what they might sell?

I heard a rumor that they were going to put an UP character meet and greet near the Redwood Trail area. Maybe instead of the Brother Bear characters? Not sure if this is true or not, but it's worth mentioning at least.

There is a gift shop that is directly attached to the exit of GRR that has a "wilderness/adventure" theme. Is that what you're referring to?

Aww...thanks I do think it is better my dad is not a part of their lives, just makes me a bit sad that he has to feel this way. But then I wouldn't have these awesome kids in my life if it wasn't for him!

Etsy had a pretty good version of it so I'll make an order. I remember reading about a possible UP meet & greet at Redwood so I'm hoping that comes true. If that store by GRR has UP/Russell merchandise I will be sooooo happy so if anyone knows more about what is in this store, please help!
