My wife and I are looking at booking a Disney cruise for our anniversary next June. Right now it's looking like we are going to shoot for the four night Bahamian cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale on the Disney Destiny. We are looking at an ocean view stateroom. I am looking for any tips, do's or don'ts when booking the cruise. I am going into this as a total newbie when it comes to DCL.

Hi there - your FIRST Disney Cruise! How awesome!
And the new Disney Destiny - that ship is looking to be amazing!
Dreams' content team at The DIS Unlimited's DCL Show has a podcast all about selecting your stateroom.
  • In general, pricing is more expensive the more midship and the higher up in the ship;
  • If you are concerned about motion sickness, conventional wisdom is that there is less motion midship. I often remind people that these are big ships - this is not like a fighing boat, so there is movement, but it will be different from what you may have experienced before.
  • For Oceanview staterooms, midship oceanview staterooms would be on the lower levels only.
The DIS Unlimited DCL Show has an overview of Fort Lauderdale's Port Evergaldes coming up on Sunday.

You'll have a GREAT time!
THANKS

Very cool. Thank you for the info. While I am not one to get motion sickness, the one time we took a boat out in Kaui on a day that had huge swells, I did get sick. On the way back in when the ocean had calmed down, I was fine. But those big swells did me in. I think I would probably be okay on a cruise ship.

What is the advantage/disadvantage to high levels and lower levels? I am guessing view out the window or out on the personal balcony.

Midship and higher up are more popular -- and they are all verandah staterooms. And yes - you get the view.
Oceanview staterooms are either forward or aft - and then lower in the ship.
The DIS Unlimited's DCL Show did an entire podcast about selecting staterooms - DCLShow dot com - slash - SelectingYourStateroom will take you to the page.
And - yes, shameless plug here - if you book with Dreams Unlimited Travel, there is NO additional cost, you will get a shipboard credit (free money to spend on board) and one of the Dreams team will help you find the best stateroom for you. Best way to start - http://dreamsUnlimitedTravel.com

When picking a room, look at what's above you and what's below you. Best level is with other rooms above and below.

Also, what is on your floor, if anything, other than rooms? People, entertainers and music can be noisy.

Finally, how many levels do you want to walk up the stairs to breakfast, pools, spa and how many levels down to the entertainment and dining venues. The elevators get very crowded so unless you physically can't, take the stairs.

Enjoy!
