Rush detained

Well they better open the Orange Bowl in Miami to detain all of those seniors disembarking daily from the cruise ships. They are notorious for unlabeled pill containers.
Could be wrong, but the cruise industry is patrolled just a tad bit differently than private jets...ever catch an episode of Miami Vice?

If you're coming in on an overseas flight, I'm thinking that there's a good chance that you'd be detained until the border cops verified your presciption with your doctors. You're fine going state to state, unless you're arrested for another crime, seeing that you're Consitutionally protected from illegal search and sezuire.
All private international flights must be checked through and boarded by Customs. You have to pay a fee and make arrangements if you arrive after hours. If the plane owner is a frequent flyer going to a familiar airport, it is usually quick, just looking at what is out.

You are kidding, right? People get on with their medications in their carryons, they get off with their medications in their carryons. They screen just like at the airport and going through customs is like being herded onto a cattle train. You declare what you must, you push your checked luggage through and I don't recall anyone being searched. The dogs sniff the checked baggage and that's it.

You are still missing the point, wither due to incapacity or iniquity, that private flights are handled differently

See sodasellers post 203...he's got it right.

My father owns a 4 seater single engine cesna and every time we fly it to the Bahamas and back, customs checks us out...maybe if I told them that we are part of the great Palm Beach Democrattic conspiracy to get el Rushbo, they'd give us a free pass to bring in anything we want!

Poor, poor Rush...it really sucks for him to be treated like a normal everyday schmoe like the rest of us!!

And you think that is the same for the passengers of private jets? Do you even want it to be the same? I sure don't. If they didn't check them with much more scrutiny that would be something that would need changing right away IMO.

Rush is also far from the first celeb to be busted in exactly the same way when coming back on an international flight.

You keep forgetting the right wing creed. It's ok if you're a republican.
Just accept Rush did nothing wrong because he's a Republican, including the first time he was busted, it's a Liberal conspiracy, and move on. The fact that private planes and those on them coming from drug infested areas are subject to a more rigorous examination than those coming off a cruise ship is irreleavent to the discussion. It was a liberal conspiracy. Why else would such a good wholesome family values guy get busted with Viagra coming back from a haven of child prostitution? You commie libs don't actually think that Viagra was so Rush "the pharmacist" Limp you know what could have you know what with one of those prostitutes do ya? You're obviously part of the conspiracy.

You too have forgotton that it's ok if you're a Republican. Therefore it must be a liberal conspiracy if a Republican actually gets caught doing something. See my post to laugh o' Grams above.

Where did you get this tidbit?

I wish I could find a better *tidbit*. I had a whole law page yesterday...figures  :

http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/living/food/14916438.htm
"It is generally not illegal under Florida law for a doctor to prescribe medication in a third party's name if all parties are aware and the doctor documents it correctly, said Mike Edmondson, a spokesman for the state attorney in Palm Beach County."

I understand that but certainly customs agents are familiar with medications in varying containers coming through and if they are attempting to enforce proper labeling across the board, they need to start with cruise passengers. There is a gold mine there.

I see, the liberal left is all for privacy when it applies to them or they can hide behind it to promote abortion.

Oh yes, hide your own hypocrisy via a false allegation against the "liberal left"

Has Rush's attorney even made a claim that this was a bad search? You have no evidence whatsoever that privacy rights were violated here. But don't let the facts stop your ranting.

I didn't say it was a "bad" search, I said that the response to turn a prescription drug and Rush Limbaugh over to Palm Beach County, who no doubt feels "cheated" out of a big catch, and the press release that insued was maliciously motivated. The right to privacy to me, trumps the public's 'right to know' that a non crime was committed.

Why don't you just admit you ordered Rush Detained and congratulate Dawn for sniffing out the liberal conspiracy?

Dawn, as everyone knows, it's the cost of celebrity...the person that Rush paints himself as, a man of the people and an ordinary citizen, is simply a divisive character he plays on the radio. Forgive me for not shedding a sigle tear for him...he obviously got you, hook, line, and sinker.

But the differance is that a senior with his meds in a daily reminder pill box is that the senior's prescription was done in his name, not a thrid party. If the senior is detained by customs, the senior can provide the original prescription bottle, or it can be verified with the pharmacy and/or the doctors office that the prescription is valid and in his name.

Rush had his prescription in the name of a third party, it makes no differance if the pills were in a prescription bottle or a pill case, having it in someone else's name is a red flag for customs. It remains to be seen if it violates any law or the terms of his plea agreement.
