WDW Marathon Recap pt6
We've made it to race day folks!

For the last several years, I have been a first bus person. However, since the buses were starting at 2am this year, I decided waking up in the 1 o clock hour was nuts and I was no longer a first bus person. My body hates me though and woke up just after 1:30 for a bathroom visit. Fortunately, I was able to quickly get back to sleep for another hour before my alarm.
Since everything was set out the night before, it was a swift scramble to get ready and out the door. My goal was to leave by 3:15 so that I had plenty of time to get into my corral before it closed at 4:15. We were slightly ahead of schedule and left a few minutes before 3. The walk through the resort had several other runners and supporters. There were several buses waiting at the lobby when we arrived and it was a quick departure.
We sat at the front of the bus and I ate my traditional pre race breakfast, pop tarts
. I don't often eat pop tarts in my regular life but they continue to be a race day staple. Since we were at the front, I was able to keep an eye on where we were going. I'm not super familiar so not the best navigator, but I am pretty good at reading signs
. Our bus driver was about to take an exit but he decided to follow the bus in front of him. I immediately realized we missed our exit and became on high alert. Luckily, our driver also realized the mistake and was able to promptly course correct and get us back on track. Whew, that was a close one.
There was a line to get through security, a first for me, but it moved efficiently. We made a stop at the entrance for the obligatory SSE pre race photo and then my mom boarded the monorail to find a spot on Main Street.

I continued walking and headed toward the light pole but it was 3:45 and no one was around. I made one last stop at the potty and then found a spot along the railing in my corral.

Folks started to get antsy and stand up so I joined the crowd. At this point, I really wanted to pee again but I was too nervous that they wouldn't let me back in. In hindsight, I should have snuck out for one more wee but it wasn't an emergency.
As a proud member of not so tall, I could not see any of the pre race shenanigans. This was mildly annoying to be standing there staring at the back of folks heads for 20 minutes. I wish there were screens to the back or left side of the stage.
Due to my late arrival, I was back further in my corral than usual. This wasn't a big deal but I was surprised to be in the 3rd wave. Last year I was in the 2nd wave and would have told you that was the back
. Turns out it was just the back when I arrived, but not the actual back.
As the race start neared, I began shedding my layers. First the Santa pants, then the jacket and the ear buff. Last but not least, the mylar. I tried to find a little wiggle room for some lunges to wake up my glutes and soon enough it was my turn.
