Running NYC before Mickey?

Hey Amanda! I'm sure you'll have no problem with the fundraising part. As far as the double marathons go, I think that will be fine too. I've heard Jeff Galloway say that he intentionally runs a marathon a month so he never has to do a long run :-)

DH & I are doing Dopey, and he's never raced a full before. He runs a 1:40 half though, and we intend to do the marathon together. I was 5:16 at the Disney marathon this year, so I'm quite a bit slower and feel he could run it at my pace without even training! I used Jeff's "to improve" marathon plan last year and did a 26 & 28 miler in training.

We're looking for a full for November/December anyway, just so he can have a "real" full under his belt before Dopey. He's very competitive and will have a hard time "taking it easy" if he doesn't have a "real marathon" time to show off instead of his time for Dopey.

I did recently see this, it might be helpful: http://www.runningplanet.com/training/running-multiple-or-consecutive-marathons.html

I was one of the out of towners who tried to run last year:(. From all the communication we have gotten there will be less charity slots this year since everyone who raised money last year was allowed to transfer their fundraising to this year. I would definitely get ahead of the pack if you want to go that route this year -there just won't be many spots available.
I deferred to 2014 so I can run DL half so maybe I'll see some of you next year:)!

How disappointing to train and then have the race cancelled.
I'm sure there will be fewer charity spots. I'm hoping to have it settled before the lottery is closed (I think that's May 24th).

Hi Amanda! Brilliant to see you're thinking if running New York, very exciting! I think you're in a great position to raise the money for charity and now with online fundraising you don't have to do the awkward 'collecting' afterwards.

I was really stressed about raising £1500 for asthma UK before London, but in the end raised just over £2000. Just a tip- a lot of people wait til just before your event to sponsor you so progress feels slow until the end! We knitted Creme Egg cosy creatures and did a few supermarket collections that really helped.

Can't give any advice on the timing issue, but you have all of my support and cheering pixie dust!!!!! :)

Thanks Kate! Good to hear that fundraising is do-able and thanks for your sweet words of encouragement!

just wanted to send a quick note to say that i'm registered too! i decided to join a charity rather than get a bib in a "sneaky" way when i saw that i could run for the american cancer society. i've had a best friend, another friend's young daughter, my sister-in-law and most recently my own father diagnosed with cancer in the last couple of months. for me, it was an easy decision.

i look forward to running nyc for a good cause and then running dopey just two short months later! :cool1:

I'm sorry you've been surrounded by so much cancer.
Awesome that you're running!
