Running Down a Dream 2: It's All About the Swag

I'm looking at the numbers in your journal, Scott, and am totally blown away. You have literally & figuratively come SO FAR!!! I think you could have run over & had coffee with me by noW!!!

Take care in the heat ! I'm SO GLAD you're back among us. You ARE an inspiration!!

I'm with Amy. I'm literally exhausted just reading about your workouts and planned workouts. :scared:

What time do you have to get up to run 6 miles in the morning? I know you run fast and all, but wow!

If anyone can do it, you certainly can!!

So how is life in the land of the uber-athlete? Give us an update when you get a chance....I always enjoy reading your journal and feeling like a total slacker! ;)

Hope your long run went well today! Give us the 4-1-1 buddy.

Lots of stuff at play this week....seems that sometimes things just don't go your way and my week certainly felt like that. My right hamstring was acting up again, so I decided to work out on my off day...doing the elliptical in reverse (as well as forward) to try and give it a better stretch, that seemed to work pretty well, but the rest of the week went quickly downhill from there...

Tuesday I had a very difficult run. It was slower than I'm used to and was just pretty tough overall. It actually had me pretty discouraged and was the first run in a long time that I contemplated taking a break from running for a while once I finished. I guess that's just gonna happen from time to time...and I shrugged it off and knocked out an elliptical workout on Wednesday, followed by a very nice tempo run on Thursday on the treadmill. I was feeling pretty good at that point...so I did a longer elliptical session on Friday, followed by my longest bike ride yet on Saturday morning. Then it was time to crash and burn...

I was cutting the grass on Saturday and while doing the trim work, I proceeded to weed eat my ankle. The little plastic rope thing gashed out 10-12 minor lacerations right above the ankle...turning it purple for a few, but thankfully nothing cut me very deep. I can tell you that the burning sensation after something like that stinks a whole lot. Luckily it did not impact my ability to run on Sunday....

I did cut the long run short due to just being totally out of sync...breathing was off, pace was totally non-consistent...plus I was planning on taking DD to Six Flags for the afternoon. Anyway, long story short is that I spent my afternoon in the Security portion of the theme park after I lost my car keys, drivers license, credit card, season passes and cash....i had them in a bag in my pocket, but they slipped out either on or right after a ride and no one turned them in :( So, a nice fun filled day with DD and my father turned into a nightmare...having to secure my car, get security to put a boot on it, retrace steps and fill out tons of reports with each ride op...and now knowing that I have to go get a new ID...new keys made...etc...it was just a very frustrating and disappointing situation.

So...thanks for listening to me gripe and moan for a few. People deal with far worse than what I've dealt with this week, but it's frustrating nonetheless.

Just hoping that this week will be a bit better...

thanks for stopping by.

 Scott,

I am so sorry that you have had so much to deal with this week. First, please watch the cuts on your ankle for infection. (Sorry, channeling the inner nurse and mom in me.) Second, You are absolutely right to be frustrated over what happened at Six Flags. It ruined a special outing, and wasted your time and money.

As always, great job on the exercise. The runs may not have been as smooth as you wished, but you still did them.

Here's to a better week.:drinking1

Newsflash:

I received a call very early this morning from the security guard who helped me yesterday...they had my belongings (except for the money of course)...and I could come pick them up today. :) Seems someone turned them in late yesterday afternoon. The coolest thing is that the lady called me on her way to her other job, she wasn't even working at SF today, but wanted to make sure that I got my things back. It's nice to know there are good people out there and I'll definitely notify Six Flags of her kindness and follow through (of course, she's probably the one with my money...j/k...LOL).

Sooo...everyone can resume their normal duties...crisis is over....a magical Disney ending if you will....

Hey Scott. I second what Beth said (and what I'd imagine you'd say to me if I had a rough week ;) )....They might not have been the smoothest miles, but they were YOUR miles! :thumbsup2

I'm glad you didn't do any major damage to your ankle. Gotta watch those weed wackers! :headache: They scare me.

Glad the Six Flags crisis was averted, unfortunately you missed out on a fun afternoon, but the good news is that you got most of your stuff back. :thumbsup2 We lost our car keys, hundred of miles from home in Hershey PA this June, but thankfully they were turned in the next day. :thumbsup2 I agree, it's the Disney in us that brings the pixie dust to us. :goodvibes

Have a GREAT week!

Hey Scott,

Wow! What a weekend that you had. How is your ankle feeling? Any signs of infection? Weed eaters scare the living daylights out of me.:scared:

I'm glad to hear that you got your wallet and stuff back!:cool1: Sorry to hear the money was missing though. :( You may want to alert the 3 major credit bureaus just in case. They can put some kind of alert on your credit reports in case anyone tries to get credit in your name.

Hope you have a much better week! Keep up the great work on the training!:cheer2:

Hi Scott,

I am so glad to hear that you got most of you things back. It is really nice of you to follow up with Six Flag's management about the great emplyee.

Have a good workout/run today.
Beth

Overall a good solid week for me. I added an extra run in on Friday instead of the elliptical basically because I felt like running :goodvibes Thankfully it did not impact today's long run at all as I was pretty quick and felt strong throughout.

This week starts the Goofy training week and also leads up to a race that I'm doing on Labor Day. It's the US 10k here in Atlanta, same one I ran last year with all of the huge hills on it. So, I'll eliminate my long run on Sunday and do the race on Monday instead.

I have to figure out the whole long bike ride on Saturday, long run on Sunday deal.....I've been doing great on Sundays, but I don't think I can push it too much further and I feel pretty spent on Sunday afternoons. I think I'll sub out some 'hood bike rides for elliptical sessions and eliminate the long rides in favor of some walk/runs. The Saturday plan has us walk/running half of the distance that we'll be running on Sunday...I think staying true to this plan will be my safest bet. I LOVE those long rides, but I can't jeopardize race training. Hard to imagine that in a couple months I'll be walk/running 10 miles on a Saturday and run/walking 10 on a Sunday.. ..what did we sign up for again??

So, in summary..I'll be easing back a bit this week into Goofy training and then busting out a great 10k race on Labor Day :)

Thanks to all for stopping by and the well wishes on the whole Six Flags ordeal. I hope everyone has a great week :goodvibes

Hey Scott,

Has anyone told you you are a running God? (Of course, Amy must be the Goddess.);) Great job on putting away all those miles this week.

You'll figure out the right combination of runs/biking/elliptical. If you will miss the long rides, can you do one every other week? It might help to mix things up.

Have fun with the Goofy training.

Have a great week,
Beth

 SCOTT!!!! Hey there buddy!!! Did ya' miss me??? :)

You have posted some KILLER numbers on the workout summary! Sounds like you have the goofy training ALL figured out :). I'll probably do the same...stay true to the plan!

You've done so well...your pace is OUTSTANDING!!! I'm SOOO not worthy of running with you. But since YOU got me into this :goofy: thing.....you are STUCK running with my slow butt! And none of that walking while I'm running business....show off ;).

Have a great night! Woo-Hoo for training that starts....TOMORROW! :cool1:

Another awesome week, Scott! Way to go!:thumbsup2

You'll do great at the race on Monday!

Have a wonderful week!:goodvibes

Congrats on another great week, Scott. :thumbsup2

Can you give any insight to the walk/running splits you'll be doing? I like to "visualize" or "be able to picture" how you guys will be putting in all of this mileage. :faint:

Yeah...ITA.....Scott :rotfl2: ? I want to visualize how the heck we're going to be putting all that mileage in too! Scott???? :confused3 What's the plan???

 Well....I guess I have a little idea about this. We are going to walk half the distance of our Sunday long run each Saturday. BUT...since we need to maintain a decent pace during the half...we'll have to do some sort of walk/run split during the saturday training. We haven't quite worked out the times yet but I'm envisioning a walk 4: run 1 interval. If that isn't fast enough we may need to do a 3:2. We're going to start testing out the pace this month. So if we have a 12 mile LR scheduled on Sunday, we'll be doing a 6 mile walk/run thingy on Saturday :scared: .

Anything to add Scotty? :goofy:

Hey Scott--Sorry to be MIA for the last couple of weeks! I was just catching up on your journal and I am so IMPRESSED with the numbers you are posting! You are such an inspiration!!

Hope the ankle lacerations are all healed up! And I am glad to hear the Six Flags incident worked out well!

Keep up the good work!!

Thanks everyone!!

Amy's right on with the whole walk/run plan for the half so that we can still be fresh for the full...while running tonight I did have the idea of running for 3-4 miles and then strictly walking the remaining 9-10...might have to try that out during training as well. Basically, we've got a bunch of Saturday walk/run deals this month to try and figure out what the best strategy will be. Wonder if you can rent an ECV (is that what they call them?) or maybe a Segway?? Would sure help out with the whole running mileage issue...LOL

I did get out there and run tonight, but it stunk (sounds like someone else I know!!)...I think it was just the humidity that took its toll after a few miles. I ended up running 4.6 miles and then walk/running an additional mile at the end. Probably should have went to the FC and did a treadmill run instead...but I was just anxious to log the miles outside.

Thanks everyone for stopping by....gonna go scope out some Pirates now....

have a great night!
