runDisney Announcement

I'm excited about Wine and Dine being in November as thats a better time to go for us! :cool1:

I like this. I can hit Tower of Terror (9/28), Myrtle Beach (10/21), and Wine and Dine (11/9-11/10).

What I do not understand is why they did not leave Wine and Dine where it was and put TOT at 11/9-11/10.

Either way, I kind of like this.

Wine and Dine with the opening Weekend of the Food and Wine fest was quite hectic. Too many people with too much to do. At least by the end of the festival the food folks will have had more than enough time to iron out the kinks of their stuff. (I would hope.)

I'm 50/50 on it. Still letting it sink in. I'm not sure whether I'll be switching my wine and dine to the Tower of Terror or running the wine and dine in Nov. Will have an update shortly.

I like the W&D in November better than in Sept because the weather will be cooler. For 2011 it is a bit unfortunate because I am aiming for a fall full and I will most likely still be recovering that weekend but going forward I like it better.

I may do the inaugural 10 miler but that depends on finding someone to share a room with but since one of my friends is moving back to Tampa at some point this year I think that might be handled.

Yea, I'm running MCM in the fall, but there's 2 weeks between so I should be recovered. If I get into NYC thats the week before, that'll be a trick.

well 2012 wine and dine is definitely out with the new date - i'm running new york the week before, and my cousins wedding is the actual night of race.

Scarily, we will actually be in Disney during the new time for Wine & Dine. I'm trying to figure out if I can actually swing racing during the family trip, but it almost seems like fate that they moved it to that weekend!

If this was a half I would most likely be in. And I was planning to NOT do any other Disney races next year (after January). They would have sucked me in with another inaugural half medal! But, I'm not interested in a 10 mile race at all. So, it's actually good for me that it's 10 and I won't be "forced" to spend more money on another Disney race trip. ;)

This perplexes me to no end, I am not sure how I feel bout them moving the dates for The Wine and Dine Half. On the other hand I might actually get to run The Wine an Dine this year as a birthday present to myself now that is a week after my b-day. But I can't help but feel for those people that have Their DVC reservations all booked for race and now have to change them or run the 10 miler. I wonder how those medals will look.

Works out well for me. I am an accountant and can't be off the first 4 days of the month. I wanted to do the Wine & Dine and now I should be able to.

I agree. I've already changed my DVC reservation for 2012 W&D Half, what with the new dates.

I like the new W&D Half date because it allows more recovery time between the DL Half (over Labor Day weekend) and the W&D Half.

I don't like the new W&D Half date because I won't come to WDW the week prior to eat at the F&W Festival and walk myself silly before the race. So I'm planning on coming in on 9 November (Friday) and leaving sometime later in the next week, totally missing all of the F&W Festival. Why don't they put the race DURING the F&W Festival?!? That way, people could come in before or stay after the race and enjoy the festival. Sigh.

Not sure how an extra race is a gift... A gift, we have to pay for...

Don't get me wrong.. I don't mind they added a race. Just calling it a gift was ...

I have the same issue, I loved running the race then spending the remaining days of my vacation at Food and Wine. Now I will either skip the race and go during my planned September vacation or miss Food and Wine events and run the race.

STUPID MOVE Run Disney! :headache:

Wine & Dine will now be during Jersey Week :( and coinciding with the last weekend of Food & Wine Festival. I've been there many times for Jersey week (don't go anymore due to crowds). If you thought it was hectic or crowded for opening of Food & Wine....then be prepared for much higher crowd levels at every park. Plus some folks get off for Veterans Day so just add that to the mix. Poor planning or maybe brilliant marketing on Disney's part but either way I am VERY disappointed and have made the decision to not do either race. Prices are always higher around Jersey Week for lodging not to mention the difficulty in obtaining DVC ressies if not done VERY early on. I find this announcement to be anything but a gift. bah humbug! :confused3

I figured out what the gift is!! I was gonna spend crazy money at wine and dine but since they've moved it, I'll save a ton by not doing either race! Thank you Disney!

Apple Fest Weekend is looking mighty good now! Hmmm....$48 race entry fee, one of the best organized events in the East, Runners World highly rated, low crowds, AND....Apple Crisp when you finish. Score! Disney has just saved me thousands of dollars. I've skipped it for two years due to Wine & Dine...I would have skipped it again. But now all bets are off...I think 2012 will be the year of doing non-Disney Races and improving my bottom line! :thumbsup2

I think there was more food at the Applefest Half Marathon finish line than there was at the entire Food and Wine fest.

Count me in :woohoo:

Bummed about the announcement... We planned a trip around the W&D half next year, and have our DVC room booked. Was going to be DW's first half... Just wish they hadn't already announced the dates for the W&D before changing it. Ah well.
