It's going to make awful traffic intolerable
but the worse is it's a major interstate
for travelers going through Atlanta.

And pack your patience -- give yourself plenty of time!! The damage is worse than originally thought. Besides the northbound section that collapsed, an additional 2 northbound sections and 3 southbound sections need to be taken down and replaced; approximately 700 feet of interstate. This will take "months".

I can't say enough about all the wonderful first responders and now everyone involved in traffic control, debris cleanup, and the rebuild. You all rock!

Yes give yourself LOTS AND LOTS of time. There will be no set detours, you are on your own to determine how you will go ... it will be ugly.

Today was BAD. I live near downtown (Freedom Parkway exit) and work in Buckhead. It took me over an hour to get to work this morning and I left before 7:00 am.

On the other hand, nothing like a transportation disaster to bring the loungers together love how many Atlantans we are!

The hubs (works in news radio) just texted me. 3 people in custody in connection to the fire. The speculation is they may have been homeless. So it's hard to tell if it was on purpose or what?

And sorry to keep this thread off-topic by talking about ATL traffic issues, but I just heard that I-85 will likely not reopen till around Labor Day! Hopefully we will get better news as repairs start, but everyone who travels in and through ATL needs to be prepared.

Speaking of important life problems, I still don't have ROL plans for this trip. Haven't even looked for FPs, I assume hard to get? Might be a game time decission one night if something pops up.

How I wanted it to be a fluke, strange accident .....


Three people are in custody in connection with a fire on I-85 that caused a bridge to collapse, according to the state fire marshal's office.

Basil Eleby has been charged with first degree criminal damage to property and two others have been charged with criminal trespass.

Channel 2's Mark Winne learned one or more of the individuals may be transient.

Haven't been on this thread for a bit so maybe this was asked in the many many pages I haven't read but any idea when they will release the October ROL dining packages? Trying to plan my early October trip and I'm hoping to get a Tusker House character breakfast ROL meal. thanks

Well guess what Lounger friends, next weekend I am going to a really really BIG Rivers of Light show. One I've wanted to see but never thought I would. Heading up for long weekend to Louisville to visit DD. One of her jobs is with the minor league baseball team. Their stadium is right on the river and I have seats facing the river. This is a HUGE weekend! for THUNDER!!!! It's an all day affair drawing massive crowds on every surface, roof etc .... building up to a spectacular 25 minute fireworks show on the river. There will be a ballgame, concerts, air show ..... nonstop all day. But for me it's all about the sky, so excited. BUT I will have to try to watch, not tape. Maybe I should take the GoPro and wear on my head during the show.

Louisvillian here. Thunder is amazing and such a fun event in our city. You will have a BLAST!

Well Loungers, I'm all packed up and heading to the airport with my sister in a couple of hours! I can't believe I'm finally going to see ROL - one year later! I've checked the blog and packed my shirt and pin, just because I'm cheeky like that! We ended up going with the Tiffins dining package, because we wanted to try it anyway! Thanks for all the tips and suggestions!
