Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

Catching up on people's trip reports and the thread and such...feel like things have been very hectic since we returned - haven't really even been able to put my thoughts together on this trip...

So, then my daughter had a seizure on Sunday. We're hoping it was a one time thing but things have been a bit stressful - she is having an EEG tomorrow morning. I have to keep her up until Midnight - she has to be sleep deprived. She is my early bird so this will be no small feat. I can't even keep her up in Disney doing fun stuff. She's already crabby. We may have to go to IHOP or Dunks.

Right now we are watching bad tween shows and coloring and thread-catching up.

So, tell me...what is the Jungle Book thing? I am reading back a few pages but yet I am lazy and would like to be spoon-fed the information...
Omg! So sorry to hear that. Will keep you all in my thoughts, hopefully you will be past this soon.

So sorry to hear about your daughter's seizure! Those are scary! I hope it's just a once-and-done thing. Good luck keeping her awake...I feel your pain there. My daughter needed a BAER hearing test done a few years ago and we were instructed to keep her awake all night so she could sleep through the test. My husband, adult son, and I took turns keeping her awake all night. I knew my biggest challenge would be keeping her awake in the car on the drive to the testing center (45 minutes away). So I made sure we went through a drive-thru and got her some food about 10 minutes into the drive. I knew that would help to keep her awake for most of the drive. As it turned out, she didn't really need to sleep through the test. She just needed to be able to sit still without moving her head for the duration of the test (45 minutes). She was 12 years old at the time and perfectly capable of understanding a "don't move your head" instruction. I hope all goes well tonight and tomorrow with your daughter's test.

It was very scary - the adults were all freaking out and my DS11 remained calm and called 911 - and then brought DD her pink monkey - he is a man of action, apparently... Her very kind friend brought her a bag of activities so we're working through that. I figure if she starts getting tired I'll bring her out for a donut or something. My son volunteered to help - he's the night owl, but then he'll be tired tonight, plus I figure they'll just start bugging each other! She also has to be up extra early - so DH is taking that shift! Wow, up all night - I can imagine that drive was tough! Thank you for your encouragement - worrying about your kids can really put you through the wringer!

Ok you have me curious. Why were they doing an ABR on her at age 12? This is what I do and at that age we usually can get a hearing test in the sound booth.

When my mom has a seizure something came over me and I was calm and able to call her doctor. I really don't know how I did it. Kudos to your son for taking charge.

Oh my! How scary. :( I hope it's a one time thing and you confirm there's no ongoing concern. :grouphug:

Ok you have me curious. Why were they d oing an ABR on her at age 12? This is what I do and at that age we usually can get a hearing test in the sound booth.

Let's just say she has a history of over exaggerating symptoms and manipulating tests. After failing/manipulating the sound booth hearing test (which shocked the doctor. He really thought she just had wax/dirt in her ear that needed to be removed so he was very surprised at the results of that test), he wanted to do a CT scan to look for tumors. I asked to speak to him privately and explained that she had been known to manipulate/exaggerate/lie about symptoms and tests and was there something "safer" that we could do to confirm that there really was an issue (at that point, she had already had a CT scan for a different issue...that also turned out to be nonexistent.). He said we could do the BAER test because there was no way for her to manipulate that, but if that came back with a problem, we'd have to do a CT scan. I was fine with that game plan. Needless to say, she didn't need a CT scan. :)
