Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

I know I said before that I'd been trying to accept that this likely wouldn't happen for my trip in 19 days but I think I lied to myself. I was really looking forward to seeing AK at night and seeing this new show. And showing it to my family! (I'm actually going in October with friends for my birthday so at least I can see it then but my brother, sister, and parents will miss it all).

I'm possibly most upset that while Jenny from Guest Experiences promised I was on a list of folks to call I got no call before the Parks Blog post went up. Did anyone else get the call we were told we'd get? I'm tempted to call her and ask what happened there...

I'm sure that list was filed "accordingly."

Without or without it, our plans for our AK day May 5th aren't changing. We enjoy the park and have never had a problem filling our day from opening to closing. As I mentioned a few posts back, now all I want is the May park hours to be posted as I'm sure it isn't closing at 6 pm (8 pm is more likely).
Agreed as far as not changing AK plans. We are first week of June and I planned all our days with no ROL/nighttime activities, no FEA, no Soarin.
I do have contingency plans if any or all of them open, but we will still be at AK 6/7 from RD to 8pm (June AK hours were already extended) with a midday break and two meals. I haven't planned for any hopping that night, but now, depending on what happens, we may have to get in an hour or two at MK.

Welp.

This certainly de-escalated. Our moods are so deflated, but guys, c'mon, party on! We're almost to 500 pages and we're still going! WE WILL FIND OUT WHEN IT OPENS SOON ENOUGH AND IT SHALL BE GLORIOUSSSSS!
Look on the bright side - we can still hang out in here and may hit 100 posts before ROL opens.

Or do we think they are saying mid to late May so people will stop calling every day, but they actually plan to make an announcement sooner??

THIS

I'm thinking (hoping?) they might have learned a lesson here. They need to under promise and over deliver, not the other way around. I'm thinking worse case scenario is they announce mid to late May that it won't be opening until June, but I'm going to be optimistic and think they'll get it straightened out sooner, and they'll announce beginning to mid-May that it will open within a couple of weeks from that announcement.

I was thinking the exact same thing. They put in writing that they will make an announcement in mid to late May but, IMO, having learned from their mistakes, they have padded the the dates significantly. My guess (hope) is that they actually plan to make an announcement in early May and have it opening a few weeks after that. I'm sure they won't make *any* announcement until everything is running perfectly. I'd even venture to say that they may do cast previews before they announce an official opening date just to make sure things go well with those shows. Now we'll need to rely on our "insiders" to let us know what they're hearing and seeing over the next 4-6 weeks.

I just did something I swore I'd never do. I now have 2 ADRs for our each of our AK/ EPCOT days knowing full well I'll cancel one each day. I really didn't want to do this bit if AK closes at 5 as scheduled I'll keep lunch if they have night hours in August I'll keep the dinners. I hate being an ADR hog.

I've never done that either but I've had so many things up in the air waiting for info, that you should see my itinerary - it's a mess and I feel badly!

I have not received a call yet either, and I was told I would either at the end of this week or early next week, along with all the others on their list. Still wondering if we will. I was also told that we would be informed "first", which I found hard to believe and didn't happen anyway. I'm celebrating my birthday near the end of April with friends there, but will also be back in October.

Thought the same--- is there anything else that she likes that maybe u weren't planning on doing this trip that u might be able to do now?

Just got to vent for a second--- I know I usually try and keep it light in here--we all do--- but I feel for the April and May people --- I mean I am sorry -- I know unforeseen things happen, but why would Disney set a firm date, if the project wasn't ready to roll ? Isn't the normal protocol to make sure all is ready PRIOR to setting a date --- and officially announcing it ?

I am actually thankful they released this now. This way I can re-plan my day. We will park hop over to Epcot, because I was worried we did not have enough time there and now I am actually relieved. Of course, I want to rework a few ADR's for my original Epcot day and of course they are not available so back to ADR stalking! lol I think I am only not annoyed because it gives me something new to plan! :rotfl:

I have to say that I'm pretty upset about this. I head down to WDW in 19 days and ROL/nighttime safari were going to be the highlight of this trip. I planned multiple days in AK just for this and now I've got to swap my dining and FPs around. Between this postponement, the DHS renovations closing stuff and the various rides that are down in the other parks it's going to be a much smaller World to visit.

:sad1: I don't even know how to tell my 8 year old that Disney just crushed her excitement for the night time safari!
I know how you are feeling. I have to do the same. I'm trying to quickly think of something else we can do instead that will be new and exciting for the kids. Trying to soften the blow a bit. Now I wish I didn't mention all this to them. :sad2:
