Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

:offtopic:
So we are going to stay and Animal Kingdom Lodge for the first time Villa 1 BR Savannah view but in Jambo nothing at Kidani. Any room recommendations? I think I read all villa's are on 5 so higher up. Looking for good views of the animals, that's what I'm paying for right? I know a room request isn't a guarantee but wanted to see if any Loungers had favorite area/Savannah/Trail (whatever all those choices are).
TIA

I hate to say this but I've always wanted to see Paris. With or without Disney being part of the trip. ok I fibbed a little Disney would be part of the trip.

Tokyo DL/DS are the best Disney parks in the world. This may be my opinion, but I'm pretty sure that many other people agree with it. :)

I know a lot of people that have been to DL Paris (I'm from England) and have been very disappointed. They told me that as I have been to Disneyworld I definitely wouldn't like it - however you just don't know until you try do you!
Whatever you decide I am sure you will have a wonderful time! Tokyo sounds incredible.. I would love to go!

Have never been to Tokyo (would like to ONE DAY) but we HAVE been to Paris. We went a few years ago - spent 1 night / 2 days at DLP (2 days was enough to get thru everything) then we moved into the city for a couple of nights for more sightseeing - then we went to Barcelona and did one of the DCL Med cruises then spent a couple more nights in Barcelona after the cruise. FANTASTIC trip. I had gone to Paris MANY years ago in my senior year of HS with my French class. I'd always said I wanted to go back again one day - just never thought it would take me 30 years! :rotfl: Anyway, we absolutely LOVED Paris and would return again in a heartbeat. We did sooo much on our own - I planned out our days with the help of a few touring books (left bank one day and the right bank the next day). Booked a tiny little old boutique hotel in the city in the St. Germain des Pres area (walkable to Notre Dame, Luxembourg Gardens & several metro stops). Did a special below ground tour of the Eiffel Tower then went to the top and then ate dinner at a littlte cafe with view of the tower at night - spectacular. We went up in the Arc de Triompe, visited the Louvre, the Army museum, the D'Orsay, Sacre Coeur, the Pantheon, Notre Dame and Luxembourg Gardens - Paris is so much fun! EUROPE is so much fun!! My personal vote would be for Paris...and maybe then consider a Med cruise too to make it a full European experience.

Thank you all SO much for the input!! :thanks: I've got a lot to discuss with DH when he gets home today!

Just a thought. maybe AK isn't ready for the rest of the nighttime stuff? Maybe ROL will be ready but there won't be enough things open that late at night?
I'd say very slim chance of the other activities being the hold up.
Most of them do not take anything but scheduling the workers.
The Safari and the Tree Lighting would be the only 2 that have any tech involved.
My impression is the tests have indicated these are working

Just STOP telling all of us how to plan, be fluid or what to do! That's what is offensive. You have some quote for everything and you are judging our planning, personality type and you know nothing about us! Again I will emulate my first sentiment this was such a great thread and then someone has to jump all over someone's very pleasant, very nice, very innocent comments...so sad :guilty:. We all love Disney that's why we are here. Let's get back to what this thread was about having a great time dealing with ROL frustration and supporting each other in our day to day life! It's been so awesome to see the love and support for the challenges and new blessings in each other's life. I've loved it!!
So, just to clarify...offering suggestions on how to plan differently that might offer less stressful touring are not encouraged? Only comments by those who share your frustration and think any suggestions contrary to what they have been doing are offensive are welcome? Well then, my apologies. I'll keep my eye out for another thread which encourages others to share tips and strategies for better touring and planning practices.

I wish you all the luck in the world with your planning. I hope you finalize your plans as soon as possible and nothing gets in the way..no travel delays, no rain, no schedule changes,no resort issues, no magic band problems, etc etc etc I hope that the changes coming to MDE on April 10 present nothing but positives for you. I hope that when the details for the new Star Wars Fireworks come out, they mesh well with your finalized schedule if you will be touring at that time. I hope that if you are touring when the Anna & Elsa details are released for Norway, they mesh with your finalized schedule. if you plan to dine at Tiffins, I hope it goes well. I sincerely do.

For anyone else (whether lurking or posting), there are other ways.

What a fantastic trip :-) Paris is beautiful and magical and Barcelona is one of my favourite cities in Europe - I have an event to manage there next week - looking forward to it.
There are some amazing places to visit in Europe!

Oh, yes! Another vote for Behind the Seeds! We did that one a few years back and enjoyed it a great deal. :) It also doesn't take a huge time commitment, which is nice.
I'm definitely going to put that one on my list...I've never done it either, but since both of us are "natural" gardeners, I'm sure it would be very interesting!

We've usually been able to get them on day +4 or +5 when our window opened, but our next trip is in October & there will of course be parties running... I'll make sure we have another option now.
There are people who anticipate free dining so they go ahead and make reservations ahead of time, planning to convert to the package when it is announced. When the ADR windows open, everything in sight is snatched up. When/if the packages are announced people will start planning for real. Look for lots of cancellations. It is not unusual for people to cancel multiple BOG, CRT, F!, etc. for multiple days. I used to hang out on the dining board trying to get cancellations. Also when the 45 day deadline to pay in full there are cancellations. I heard it was 30 days now. Anyway don't panic and check the dining board especially when/if the FD announcement comes.

Thank you all SO much for the input!! :thanks: I've got a lot to discuss with DH when he gets home today!

(PS) I still have a link to a trip report I wrote on that trip - sadly I think I never quite finished the last 2 days in Barcelona - but I did cover Paris and the cruise....there's a few pics too.

I would rather have them say.

"Testing for RoL is ongoing. We are doing everything possible to make the show available on that day and remain confindent that our guests will be able to enjoy the show. We will be releasing updated park hours, schedules, Fastpass availability and dining packages efective immediately. Should we be unable to meet the target date, we will still continue with all the other evening activities and do everything in our power to ensure our guests have a fantastic evening."

That is what I would like to see them say and also what I think they should do.:thumbsup2
I think everyone planning trips (especially for that first week) could accept the risk of a now show, and gamble on tying up a fastpass as long as we could secure plans.

Exactly! A person's frustration level while planning their trip will affect their overall happiness with the trip as a whole. Disney knows how frustrating we are all finding this, so easing that by admitting there are issues would not be admitting some major fault as far as I'm concerned. It's not like they could have planned for the technical issues they are facing now. Seriously, how many shopping stores have difficulties with their registers at random times? And those are nowhere near as complicated as RoL! Just be upfront and honest.

There isn't a single ADR to be had so far in September. Unless you got CRAZY lucky. I don't want to go on a party night and I couldn't get one. And it's not just BOG - it's all restaurants in MK. They only had them open from 4-6 pm and I guess they booked up within seconds. I got everything I wanted but BOG.

Ok, pure speculation on my part, so take it for what it is: We have all heard the complaints from party guests who are upset that day guests can make an ADR at 6:55p on a party night and essentially "linger" and enjoy the parade and fireworks on their way out. And I saw day guests at both MNSSHP's we went to last year doing this, so yes, it is frustrating. Is it possible that the lack of ADR's after 6p are in anticipation of Disney finding some way to close that loophole? Is there a way for them to find a way to prevent guests from making an ADR after a certain time unless they have a party ticket? Or could they be finding a way to load it into the system that there is a hour to hour and a half of time blocked out before dinner openings resume on party nights to put a stop to this very common party guest complaint?

Just a thought. maybe AK isn't ready for the rest of the nighttime stuff? Maybe ROL will be ready but there won't be enough things open that late at night?

It's possible, but not likely, from what we have heard. A lot of the nighttime offerings are things that have been done at the park for other special occasions (ie. Harambe Nights, AKL Nighttime Safari), so they already have an understanding of what is required for those things and would know what would need to be in place and when. And the technical stuff is what is delaying RoL; from what I understand, the other offerings do not have a technical aspect beyond speakers and lights (which, again, they already know how to set up) and the "sunset" screens for the safari which have been put up and tested for at least a couple of weeks (IIRC) and have not seemed to come up against any issues.

To be honest, I am just glad they are reaching for that April 22 date for RoL and not trying to put it off until Tiffins catches up.

On another note:
Thanks to @HopperFan for everything you've done for the Lounge! DH doesn't really understand my obsession, but he is wiling to wear a pin on our trip in honor of all the Loungers who put so much time and effort into the thread.

@KateP85 So glad you, Grayson and your family are doing well. And thanks for the updates from your friend; it's gotta be as frustrating to them as it is to us.

To the Loungers who have had weather issues, health issues and car troubles recently, you are in my thoughts and I hope everything gets better for you all soon.

And to all the other Loungers, thank you so much for proving that there can be a thread on the Dis where posters are kind and respectful, even when they disagree! That's what the Lounge is all about!

To be honest, I think you are reading more into what he is saying. He is not trying to tell you how to do things or judging you, he is saying how he did it. Let's all take a step back and breathe. We don't want this thread to turn ugly. :)
I was not offended by what he posted. Perhaps because you (not you but the quoted pp) were quoted you took it personally. It's all good now.

For the record, I am not bothered but this but is pretty much the same kind of response I gave that is being considered as "jumping on" on someone else and is being called "so sad".

I think a post (reference point if you will) kinda like what MesaBoy did with his FP+ guide would be overkill and ALOT of work. First, for it to be effective it would need to be constantly updated...which is kind of my point. I( mean, Josh has an entire blog about things like that. My comments in regards to RoL is that we don't know what we don't know. There is a countless supply of tools out there to help people gather all the info they need to plan every smallest detail of your trip, and there is nothing wrong with that. BUT, in a game where Disney controls alot of the variables there are alot of people who find alot of success by planning everything to the smallest detail BUT allowing for flexibility. When appropriate I have discussed them before. For example, I was recommending Fantasmic FP+ from the jump when people like Robo called them a waste of time simply because the Fantasmic FP+ allowed for flexibility. It doesn't mean that Fantasmic was valuable to everyone, but to some people, in some occasions it was.

Reeling it back in here, I think in regards to RoL and especially dining packages (the origin of the thread) there are ways to plan what you want to do BUT have ADRs as back up if not. FP+ make it more difficult but again, not impossible. I think finalizing ADRs right now before RoL details come out would be a big mistake for someone who wants to the dining package. By the same token, I think it would be a big mistake for anyone touring soon who wants to do the RoL dining package to not have a backup of something just as awesome just in case.

It doesn't mean one way works and one way doesnt, it means that only one way allows for success when Disney changes the variables.

I cannot speak for Jambo but I can speak for Kidani so I thought I would share, Stay as low as you can and as close to the lobby as possible. They keep food close to the lobby to keep the majority of the animals there for the grand "wow" moment when visitors first walk in and look out the windows in the back. I was just there in October and I was in the middle of one of the "U"s at Kidani and we barely ever saw animals, it was so sad considering how much we paid for a savannah view, the animals came to the feeders near our window in the morning (early) and late at night. Cannot speak to mid-day as we were not usually in our rooms during this time, we were also on the 4th floor as my dad wanted to be up high and it really made what animals we did see seem far away, I would have much preferred to be on the 2nd floor and be closer to the ground level

May 1st! Dining packages will be available from May 1st on!!!!! More to follow!

Edited: Link to the Dibb: http://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=935900

Would like to know when you'll actually be able to book these! I sure would like to get one for May 8th.

I've just looked quickly on my phone, so I might be missing something, but this looks like old info that we saw in this thread a while back too. it looks like the link you're sharing is from February.

Does that mean booking opens on May 1st or that is the first date you can get a package for? Going on the 4th. That's cutting it close to have to try for an ADR on the 1st.

It's dated Feb 27th. It looks like way old news. It would be very unhelpful if The Dibb added updates without carefully identifying them as such.
