Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

Mine said: It behooves me that Disney wants us to plan what we are going to eat 180 days in advance, what we are going to ride 60 days in advance and they announce 4/22 as the opening date for ROL, but they cant seem to get things together so people can plan their trips for May, June, etc

they have created their own monster...us:P .

File it under be careful what you wish for, the rabid mousekeeters want their RoL bookings lol.

That particular case sounds more like a problem with the CMs not reading the info they were given than Disney not giving them information. You can lead a horse to water but you can't force it to drink.
Now, I can understand why they would not know a date is not offered. There's really no reason to tell someone why something isn't offered. Though like you I'm curious. The 18th is the day I'm at HS so it was the date I wanted most. We have AP and Hopper tickets so we'll get to HS and do the dessert party another night.

This is where my thoughts go also.
actually the CM's paper said "dates added" it didn't say which dates, all I'm saying is that there's no reliable communication anymore, especially not from upper management to the front of the line. I would expect the manager of the dessert party to know when and why a specific date is not offered, I'm not saying they have to tell me why or why not but at least they should know

Somehow I doubt that there will be anything new on the BLOG about ROL for quite awhile, especially after the responses from yesterday! I would be nice if SOMEONE would reply to them, though.
I continue to be surprised all 16 of the approved ones are still there. I'll check now and then today to see if it holds.

They can't even get a date set for the opening of Tiffins. The page said 4/22 & they took it away.

You'd think it would just be good customer relations to respond with something like, "we're working hard to get everything ready. We're glad you're as excited as we are about this new show. We want to make sure everything is in place before we start ADRs and FPs. Please bear with us. We'll let you know when we're ready to take reservations." I mean seriously, I think it would go a long way and show some good faith effort to make everyone happy (not to mention giving everyone a break from the wild speculation).

That would be nice. At least acknowledge all the people that have commented and show them that you care a little about your customers.
Now the blog has something about an okapi:furious:

I like Okapi as much as the next guy - but it's not my priority at the moment.

And for us it'll be our last trip for a long time. After years of going twice, sometimes 3 times per year, we sold our DVC points and our APs will expire this August. That will be it, so I would like to see this ROL show during our last trip May 5-8th.

We're in the same boat. Originally this past January was our last trip but since my DH entire family is going in April (for the first time since 2009 or 2010) we somehow made it work. Our APs are expiring after the April trip and we don't plan to go back till December 2017 (hoping for another SW party for the premiere of episode VIII which is scheduled to be released 12/15/17). We still have our DVC but we can simply bank those for the following year or let friends/family use the points.
I know I have major OCD and have to get all my ducks in a row ahead of time. But this trip has put more pressure on me (actually I put the pressure on myself) to make this the best it could be for the family and to go out with a bang so to speak.

One of the things that has me most frustrated is this:

While I realize that not everyone who wants to do an event will GET to do an event, (the old "You can't please all the people all the time" thing), the fact that they hype the heck out of it, tell you that details will be revealed in Blogs, Live Chats, etc., seems to me to be a "bait and switch" kind of thing. With the past 5 or so years of record attendance and profits, they certainly don't need to attract more guests...why the heck are they pushing on something so hard, when there is no way they can deliver on it?

Rant done. Carry on. LOL
Well said.
I've been at two particularly special F&W events where our everyone at our table (except us) were either employees of WDW or they were with someone who was. I noted both times there was a lot of interaction in the room--many of these folks knew each other from work. Nothing wrong with that, but these events sold out to the public at light speed. Why? I think they were heavily sold in house earlier. No problem with that, but as you point out, they promote the heck out of things...that might not even really be available to someone without connections.
How did I get us tickets? I kept calling every few days, nicely. All I can figure is either they opened up a few more seats, or someone had to cancel. I will say our table mates were very surprised to hear we were visiting from out of state on vacation. They wanted to know how I managed to get tickets, and I told them I called, it must have been my lucky day. :)

Haha.. we're in the same boat!

We've begun visiting 2 times a year so I know we'll get there eventually, probably next March. But I can't help but think of people who may not visit for another 3-4 years (or ever again) that really want to see this show.

That's the boat I am currently in. Single mom, 3 kids, travelling from overseas (Europe). I can only make this trip because I am coming over for a conference (so work pays for part of MY share) and a generous friend is unloading Hilton points on us for free before they expire. I pretty sure won't be able to come back again this year, next year or maybe even the year after (even if I wanted to...). God knows when I'll be able to come back after all. The last trip to WDW we made with my parents was two weeks before AK officially opened (we were so peeved!). We didn't manage to come back until 11 years later. So for us the big deal is pretty much will we ever get to see this or not. So I am not going to take any chances and will get us a dining package, even if it means paying extra. And that is where it's really killing me because Disney is taunting us with how awesome and special and one-of-a-kind this show is and I simply cannot plan for it at all. I probably wouldn't stress so much if I knew I'd come back at some point but right now I don't know that.

Good luck, I sincerely hope you are able to get a RoL dining package! What daysare you trying for?

I soo hope you get what you are looking for! That's exactly what I mean.. Disney is dragging us in on pins and needles and then delaying delaying delaying.. My fiance said this morning "you know, they make us book 180 days out for dining and 60 days out for FPs but they cant get their ___ together 30 days in advance"

And I said THANK YOU that's what my ROL Support Group has been saying!

While I can appreciate why this CM said this (either told this was the case or perhaps out of some frustration at this point!), this has certainly NOT been the case with every new opening. At times I've heard first from DPB, and other times heard here first and by the time it hit the blog, some days were already booked solid.

This is exactly why I don't buy the whole "wait for a blog announcement" answer. I may be wrong, but I swear last year for SWW I heard about the stuff I wanted to book opening up here before the blog announcement came. The rebel hanger reservations being the first thing that comes to mind. Maybe even the premium packages too. @yulilin3 was a huge help! Without her I doubt we would have gotten the reservations we got. I trust this site and the people who frequently post here WAAAY more than the blog!

Exactly. I heard about 1) Rebel Hangar and 2) the VIP SWW tour from @yulilin3's thread and had them both booked before they were announced on DPB.

Off the top of my head, Villains Sinister Soiree was one I heard about first on DPB, called and grabbed it immediately.

It has been a mixed bag for me over the years on these new / special events.

Yep, my rule is that if I see an announcement from Disney, I know that it is now too late to book/reserve/etc. whatever it is they are promoting.:headache:

My other thought, is that IF they are going to ever open up FP to this event, for the sake of those with trips in the next couple of months, I certainly hope they do it BEFORE the 30 day mark....

Agreed. I look at those announcements, whether they are on BLOGS or TV Commercials as trying to fill all the spaces that MIGHT open up as people change their plans. Heck, there's a new summer package now, but I haven't seen any TV commercials for it yet, they are still pushing the SPRING discounts, which are at this point, probably not even available anymore...or so limited that only folks who are new, or those making truly last minutes plans, can take advantage, and will grab anything that is still available. (No offense to anyone here...I think most who have posted seem to be mega-planners like me, and have reservations months, if not years, in advance!)
