Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

That IS a lot of brown/woody colors... maybe the bits of colors will really pop in person? And lighting at night would help.... I guess we'll see.

I'm holding hope it will still look good at night with the lighting but wow, that was a real let down.

I think I need to watch Avatar before this new land opens, otherwise I feel like I won't really get it. Not overly excited right now though. I wonder if RoL will manage to open before Pandora does!
The land isn't based on the story of the movie, the land is only based on the land within the movie.

So past excited for either at this point. I think they have a lot of hype to live up to ....

On another happy thoughts note, the CM Party ... they did a different fireworks for you? If so how were they? Do you think they would be feasible for a nightly show? Like, the DVC ones were AMAZING but I think maybe too pricey to do daily.

I actually have no idea if they were different. I am not a fireworks fan at all, and I haven't seen Wishes in years. I would assume they were different than Wishes because they seemed a little fancier, but not as elaborate as something like the July 4th or NYE fireworks. I would say they were maybe akin to Hallowishes or Holiday Wishes.

I guess in my head I'm comparing this to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, where I wouldn't appreciate the details or theming quite as much if I hadn't seen the movies. Maybe that won't be the case?

I cannot imagine for a second that Pandora will be as well themed or given the same attention to detail as Hogsmeade or Diagon Alley, but I would love to be proved wrong.

Okay. Well I guess that I really haven't heard any OOHS and AAHS like we did with DVC so maybe it was lower key .... just wondering due to rumblings. If it is comparable to Wishes in "size" and "cost".

SO ... the surprise event at the end of Destination D is ...................................... a FP+ to Jingle Cruise. Oh and free entry into MK, I mean how many at this thing don't have APs?

So far all reports I have seen say ROL wasn't event mentioned?? ... it does not exist.

Hey, Disney, you got 41 days left in 2016.

You can do this ............ can't you?

Seriously thinking it may not be ready for my June 2017 trip. Smh.
I guess I've started suspecting that if this thing is THIS hard to get right, it will be cut back so much that I'm not sure it will be worth all the waiting we had been through.

Personally, I can take it or leave it at this point, even though our March/April anticipation and frustration caused me to stress out so much! Now...I'm more like, "meh, if it's convenient and I'm not missing anything else, I might try to get a FP for it"...but I will not spend a dime on a dinner package or wait in line forever for it. Life's too short...and Disney trip-time is too precious.

I have the utmost confidence that Pandora will be one of if not the best themed lands in any theme park in the world.

I have to agree with that. Looking forward to seeing it (but we won't be back to WDW for ~3 years, will definitely get to back to DLR first, or perhaps DLP).

ROL must be a bit of a quandary for Disney. It had a big appeal for promoting and marketing the nighttime events at AK, and then didn't materialize. Now, the question must be, do they hold it over a big release they can promote, or get it running for some more immediate return on investment (a ROL ROI)? Will in bring in enough guests this winter to bother paying to run it? I could see some preview showings over the Winter Break peak season, then a big premiere in Spring.

SO many things at play here but am sure it is lots of the things we have talked about ....
- failure of GPS engineering
- failure of components like water wall
- inability for reset and repeat (huge issue)
- poor reviews of JBA which probably had like pieces
- MEH coming from those who see it, I mean it ran last week and where is the gushing?
- one review used words to describe that no one wants - pretty, interesting, enjoyable o_O
- right now is busy season and any plus to opening doesn't exist in numbers
- like I've said several times, now that this has lost all excitement, it has become a $ on the P&L ....
so you open it when it does the most for your fiscal quarter. It's a financial move.

Another "place" another "poster" predicted unscheduled, random soft openings throughout spring ....
BUT you can't do that when there are specifically hired entertainers/actors involved.

I'm with you .... I would not plan my days around it even if open at this point, it's gone from ...
... great anticipation and excitement to ...
... failure and disappointment to ...
... filler.

If this opens closer to Avatarland .... are you going to wait in a long SB line or waste a FP+ for this OR
are you heading to Pandora to get in line, use your FP+ and take it all in ................

I'd be going to Pandora ..... AND while we are at it, is AK about to go tiered FP+ :rolleyes1

You haven't seen the show. You can't say it's a failure or disappointment without seeing it. Yes it's late yes it's disappointing that it's late but it's not a failure yet. Test track had the same issues but it's fine today.

My first thought was :O you can't say that to @HopperFan ! He knows his stuff!

And then I saw it was @rteetz speaking. And you know your stuff too. Maybe this will be the epic battle to go down in DIS history!
