Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

I am so happy you are taking this attitude. I am here sitting on my computer watching a whole lot of people have a cow about the new special ticketed events and thinking "You don't need that to have a good time" seriously
I don't think there will be an increase in crowds because of the night time ticketed price,
have a great time.
I am now thinking that the happiest Disney guest will be the one going without knowing anything about the place, because they will go with the flow and experience whatever they will be able to experience.
The new events are optional experiences for those that wish to pay for them. If I had a small child, the morning in Fantasyland might be appealing. As it is, it's not worth it to us, but the fact that events like this exist means nothing to me.

(I avoid EMH parks on EMH days anyway.)

Agree. I'm having a similar thought. If I can get a FP or dining package for ROL, great, but I won't plan my day around it, wait in line for hours just to see it. We had already planned on eating at flame tree for dinner, so if we can get a package, great- if not no big deal. DH just said it looks cool, but won't wait for it or stay at AK all day for it. He told me to get a FP or dinner package for flame tree if possible. If not we plan on leaving at our typical 2-3:00. They already messed up my MK days by adding parties to it, so both MK days, no wishes. But we're staying at the poly, so we will just watch from our resort. I won't pay more for hoppers, or extra hours. Disney can add all the extras they want, as long as they are optional.

I sometimes think they do it just to be able to complain about something.

If I was still THAT uncertain about a restaurant opening at this stage (almost shocking to me given how much experience they have doing this), I would release packages for Tusker House and a quick service option now. Then if Tiffins goes on line, release those when they do.

And I would certainly expect them to know 1) how many shows per night and 2) what times those shows will run through at least Apr-May! Pretty sure we can all look up sunset times online and know those ahead of time... I've already added that row to my spreadsheet... ;)
This is why I simply do not believe Tiffins alone is the only reason nothing has been announced.

We're 35 days out. The kids have been excitedly crossing out dates on our countdown calendar and hitting the 5 week point today was a fun milestone. We have 4 kids and 6 park days out of our 14 nights at WBC. Our dates in the parks are set and we have no plans to change them.

We are a get there at Rope Drop (or shortly there after) and stay until 9 or 10 (or Wishes) kind of family so if ROL is a go and we can get FPs for our AK day then we will stay and enjoy the show. If not, we will still stay around until after dark, use that FP for the night Safari and head out when we feel like it. We've decided to not let the "not knowing" change anything.

One of the MK After Hours things is happening on our 5th park day (2nd MK day) which was also the night we planned to see Wishes, etc. If it sounds like 7 to 10 pm is going to be extra busy because of After Hours then we'll switch Wishes to our last park day (3rd MK day) and maybe call it an early night instead.

The moral of our story ... we're going with flow.

P.S. This will be our 3rd WDW trip.

1st trip was in Spring 2011 with our then only child, DD3. We bought 3 day tickets when we got there. Did MK, AK, MK. Didn't plan a thing. Figured out the pulling FP tickets thing pretty quickly. Had a blast.

2nd trip was in Spring 2014 and we had jumped from 1 daughter to 4 daughters (DD6, DD4, DD4, DD2). I researched and planned for that trip for months ahead during the FP+ debates, sky is falling, it will ruin everything era. We had a blast.

3rd trip in 35 days. The kids are now DD8, DD6, DD6 and DD4. I've been planning and researching and reading the Dis and the other sites again for months. This time, it's the Disney costs too much, prices going up, upcharge for everything, no confirmation for anything for ROL, everything is closed at HS, Disney is ruined, the sky is still falling era!!! We "plan" to have a blast (fingers crossed, fingers crossed, fingers crossed).

I agree - not much more one can do but go with the flow at this point! I'm still glad that I did the research however - I find it helps me go with the flow a little better so at least I have some idea what to expect and am not blindsided - if that makes sense? I still remember the trip where I had somehow missed the existence of "Night of Joy" and we showed up at MK late in the afternoon - d'oh! sudden change of plans! Still had a fun night but it was a bit of a bummer! I keep looking at this trip as gaining a bonus night that - whether or not I actually see ROL - I still owe to ROL, lol! Hope y'all have a great trip!

The party thing starts at 10pm you can still be inside the park for Wishes without the special ticket, which dates are you coming?

I've come to the conclusion that folks here at the Dis are not by any means the avg Disney guest. And I've also come to the conclusion here that for many here at The Dis, Disney can do nothing right and they are never going to be happy. I don't get why they want to spend their money with a company who has business practices they hate so much but hey, whatever floats their boat. I sometimes think they do it just to be able to complain about something.
Yes!!! I love the " I'm not going back" posts. Do I agree with everything they do...no. But am I going to change it...no. I've come to the conclusion that Disney doesn't care if MY FAMILY comes back or not- so I can either roll with the changes and keep going, or don't. Personally, I can't see anything that would make me never go back. If the price keeps going up, we will just cut days. But I say that, but probably won't, just won't eat the rest of the year:rotfl:

No, I mean the Halloween party. Both our MK days just added parties. we're not going till September. I'm sure the schedule will change a million times, so I'm just not going to look anymore.:rotfl:

So I am back on the BLOG after a week of rearranging my ADRs and gotta say this...Disney can announce dates and prices for new Night time exclusive event and even let out details and prices for new Early Morning events...BUT with less than 30 days left they still have not updated their website with extended Animal Kingdom Park hours? Oh wait they are offering a special night time early entry package to Animal Kingdom? Really Disney? I am not asking for much but if you can offer night time Animal Kingdom packages before 4/23 why can't you at least show the new park hours for May. I am willing to grudgingly wait until 4/23 before you add ROL and all the new night time activities to the website & app but this is pushing it.
:hyper2:

Sometimes I miss the total blindness that I went into my first trip with!!

(And you know what, it was AWESOME!!!)

I think at this point, I know I am going to AK on the 28th. I feel like I have become a crazy person trying to check the blog, app, website at least 5 times a day!

In regards to paying for EMH, if there are certain days that they do this, fine. But I do hope that not ALL of the EMH become paid events. If that is the case, I honestly don't really see the point so much of HAVING to stay on property. That is one of the biggest perks to my family. If it's like 2 days a week either way, whatever. If someone wants to pay 70 bucks to go on 3 rides and have a buffet, good on them! Take away ALL of EMH except for paying guests? Then I would be upset.

I don't know. I think to classify anyone upset about not being able to finalize their plans with less than a month or so to go, especially in an invironment of planning that Disney has created, as haters is a little extreme. I am not a planner but I find it necessary in order to enjoy what I want to do but I obviously have a good time it I wouldn't go back. I just think the prices and up charges are getting a wee bit out of hand.

I've about decided your family and mine are the only ones who do. They could turn every EMH in to a paid event and it won't mean a thing to me. We avoid EMH parks at all times. Now, I do not believe they will turn EMH to a paid only event, I believe these are in addition to EMH. But EMH has nothing at all to do with why we stay on site. Clearly, that is not the norm (which is exactly why we avoid EMH, most do go to that park for them)

Personally I wasn't referring to those looking for RoL info. I was referring to those complaining about EVERY.SINGLE.DECISION Disney makes. And there are many here that do just that

Add us to the mix. We never go to the parks that have EMH that day. We made that mistake once (because I wasn't paying attention) and ended up in an overly crowded Epcot. Taught me the lesson to pay better attention to the times.

I'm actually quite surprised by how many EMH fans there are. EMH is like a "COME TO THIS PARK" beacon to resort guests. The first thing we do when making our schedule is cross off all the EMH parks.

I've learned a long time ago which posters are haters and I just skim over their posts.

Hahahaha. I didn't look at anything Disney including the Dis after returning from our April 2014 trip to just before this past Xmas when I started planning for our upcoming May 2016 trip ... so about a year and half between. I know exactly which posters you mean which is hilarious to me. When hating something becomes a 2 year plus hobby, well .......

I am the Disney planner in our group and at this point I think if they actually do go through with opening ROL on 4/23 then it is already inside most travelers fast pass dates so we have all had to chose something else because thus far they have not even given us park hours beyond 6pm so ROL will be a standing room only for the first month until they start the Dining packages and FP+. Right now they only way they could do dining packages for the first few months would be through Triffins as it has yet to open so all dining slots would be open for dining packages. Otherwise join the friendly stampede with all of us thirsting for new sights.
