Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

Despite what the website says we have to assume at this point April 22 opening is a stretch goal and everything possible, including bringing in the speedy Universal construction teams, is being done to meet that date.

Bad news. So my assistant has a friend who is a CM at Disney. He texted her to ask about ROL and she said they aren't even sure the preview nites will even happen. She also said they weren't sure it would start on time so we texted her and said they website still has it opening on 4/22 and are waiting to hear back
So the response back was and I quote: " Aw that's so cute, believing what is on the website." :(

I can't see them announcing a date and then not following through with it. Disney usually waits as long as they can before announcing a date.

They're too busy with the Disney After Dark roll out. It's got higher priority because it's so much easier to collect money when they don't have to actually add anything. :crazy2:

And I'm going to take this as a good omen. I had to register my kids for summer camp this AM (so no ROL trolling). We're not residents of the park district so we only get a chance at the scraps. Got both kids into all 3 sessions we needed. Phew!! I don't love these high stakes be-ready-to-go-at-the-crack-of-the-appointed-hour sign ups. Here's hoping ROL goes as smoothly. If it ever goes ...

DH's trip to Disneyland Paris was cancelled because of the events in Brussels. I can't say I mind, but he's disappointed. My younger sister's friend worked at the airport in Brussels, she's OK but very shaken up.

The event at MK is NOT something I would pay for, but obviously some people do see the value so I think it might sell better than we think. It would annoy me that it was non-refundable though, I thought hard ticketed events were usually refundable, especially new ones.

Have there been any recent-ish cases where Disney has announced an actual real date for something and then pushed that date? Just curious as I too would assume that they wouldn't have announced April 22 unless they were sure it was going to be April 22. Otherwise, we would still be gettng "Coming Soon Spring (or Summer) 2016".

This is just my opinion, so FWIW...
I don't believe they waited as long as they could. I think Disney got really excited about two things, Earth day and the anniversary of the opening of the AK. April 22nd became the driving force. They weren't selecting a do able date, they were selecting a meaningful date.

WDW often doesn't care about anniversaries. No cupcakes and a pin don't count. So I don't think the parks anniversary had anything to do with it. Now yes I think they picked the most obvious date. They announced the opening date less than two months our right? That in Disney terms is waiting as longneck as they could. I don't see any reason to believe right now that this won't be open in a month. Now what I would be worried about is it being ready for a preview party. Those preview parties might not happen.

Back from a looooooong lunch with my direct supervisor. Voiced my displeasure about the recent memo because if they cancel my business trip, I'd either have to cover airfare for myself to the US (this short notice it's 1,000€ - not gonna happen) and cover the 5 days of hotel accommodation that work would have covered (I think I could have handled that....) or I'd be out of the kids' flight expenses and our WDW tickets because their flights are non-refundable and tickets linked to MDE. He said to sit tight for the next couple weeks and if I still want to go then, he'll overrule the memo and send me on. He won't cancel my trip plans for the time being. So I am gonna sit tight for the time being and see what's happening. I'm 99% sure we'll go but I'll leave the 1% open for whatever may happen until then.
YAY...at least there's a good chance! Hope your trip works out! We'll be there at the same time!!

Let me see if I can sum up today properly:
1. No new news on Rivers of Light or when any dining packages will be available
2. Disney is now charging $150 for MK Extra Magic Hours.

Stupid question, is it possible the delay in Rivers of Light is because Disney is finalizing details thatwill officially close AK at 5 p.m., and if you want to stay later for ROL and other select attractions they will be charging $150 per person for that priviledge?

The world events are so sad and disturbing. This must be a distressing time for your sister's friend. I hope things settle down, it's a hard time to be in Brussels.

Yeah, he is pretty understanding. My old supervisor wouldn't have allowed me to extend the trip and take my kids along. I was so glad this all worked out the way it did, especially after my accident last summer. I'll be doing this all in an ECV but I will be doing this!
I'm so sorry experienced a lifechanging accident! But your positivity is beautiful! I hope you have an absolutely magical trip!

The only thing that comes to mind is how they changed the registration date for Wine & Dine Half -- after it was released months earlier. And while they kept the same race weekend, they did add a 10K which changed the weekend from a Sat race date (5K & half) to Fri-Sun race dates.

No. It would not be a FP option if that were the case. And Disney has confirmed that ROL will have FP.
