Rumors May Be True!

I just went on the website and tried to put in my Jan 2008 dates- not allowing me to do that. So, I went to the room rates, again, still all for 2007. Can't find anything with 2008 on it!

The 2008 rates may not be out yet, but in my eyes, this is a definite signal that they're going to be charging higher rates on certain days (weekends etc).

Well, I just checked the site and it is giving the same message it gave prior to the update. Looks like the 2008 rates aren't out yet. I will be calling today and I'll post what they say.:guilty:

I was playing around with the site and found the wonderful weeks of Disney- so I clicked to see if they were the same 2007 dates I had looked up earlier. They are the 2008 dates for winter and spring (didn't look at the others)- so I picked the week we are traveling to get a quote, but still wouldn't give me a price. Don't know if the 2008 wonderful weeks have been on there recently, but they weren't the last time I looked- a while ago. Maybe that is a good sign that the rates will come out soon???

it looks like they just added some buttons for BBB and other special things you can do. They also have the winter Wonderful Weeks of Disney for Jan. 2008 out. But they won't give prices for packages.

Just tried, getting the same thing as yesterday....NOTHING. Well, POO!!! I was really looking forward to getting booked today so that I can start with my planning.:sad1:

I just tried my Wonderful Weeks dates too, and it took me to the next page and gave me an error message, and wouldn't even let me manually put the dates in. Oh well for now....at least I know my dates are "wonderful", which turned out to be GREAT during the last trip in March!

"Wonderful Weeks" just means the crowds are lighter right? This doesn't have any bearing on the "value price" season does it?? Because the week I'm going (the same as last year) is suddenly NOT on the wonderful weeks list. But usually falls under "value season".:confused3

No wonderful weeks has nothing to do with price, it's supposed to mean lighter crowds. We went in March during one of these weeks and didn't wait on any lines, that's why I'm excited!

I think we will have to wait to see, because I am not having a good feeling about that being the meaning of it. I am fearing that wonderful weeks is their new value season. If you look the wonderful weeks are away from the Holdidays and summer months. I really hope my feeling is wrong, this is the first time I was able to book during a value season and that is not one of the wonderful weeks. I think Martin Luther King day is, it is also a 3 day week for alot of kids. I thought that was a busy time. I hope we find out soon, for the first time I am considering not going.
I can't afford to pay for 9 days at the Holiday rate.

I agree. Something is fishy about the wonderful weeks this year. If it's not the prices, then what is going on the week that I'm planning?? (9-15th) It's not President's Day yet. I have been googling for months checking for conventions, concerts, sporting events.....there really isn't anything. There is a field Hockey event that first weekend but that's it. (my trip would be from Saturday to Friday). (leave on Friday)

UGH!! Who knows. I'll just try to keep a positive outlook until we know for sure.

That week has always been busy mostly because of the same reason you choose it. There are alot of us that want to get another trip in right before the seasons change and the rates go from value season to peak season. We go the first week of Feb. and often there is a home builders convention going on in Orlando. Not sure of the time for 2008, maybe that's got an effect on it. They were coming in as we were leaving last Feb and were staying at many of the resorts (we were at the WL and they were there too). I'm actually sitting here today to figure out if I want to go the last week of January or the first week of February in 2008. Since we are DVC members now, I'm crunching my points and trying to decide what to do. I have another week before I can call since we have to wait until 7 months out.

Update: I looked up the NHBA (home builders association) and their next Orlando convention is Feb. 13-16. THis is a huge event and brings in lots of people. I heard mention 100,000 last year. My husband, who's a builder, was interested in this so was reading some info on it for him. There are some others on the boards who know much more than I about this. Just maybe this has a small effect on lodging. Of course with this convention running smack into the Prez weekend, this will make for a crazy busy Prez weekend in 2008. I say avoid at all cost!

ANOTHER Update: I looked up and found that TWIRL MANIA will be at the WWS for Feb. 15-18, so that is another big event during that weekend. Sounds like the value resorts will be busy that weekend as alot of the WWS events are housed there.

Oh yes, I remember the builders convention and twirlers from last year. That is why we couldn't add on another night to our trip. I stayed at the computer for 6 days straight trying to get an extra night at the AKL. ALL the resorts were BOOKED. And then one night all of the sudden an opening appeared at OKW. So, I jumped on that! I called WDW and got them to switch us since I could get an extra night at OKW. It was more expensive but, we hadn't had a vacation in 10 years!! We were ok with splurging a bit. Anyway, the parks weren't TOO bad but the hotels were DEFINITELY full.

Also, being that the resorts were so packed, we got a free upgrade when we got to OKW from a standard to a 1 bedroom villa. NICE!!!!!

FYI - That weekend in Feb. (8th - 11th) is the national high school cheerleading competition. I'd avoid the value's unless you want to be bombarded.....

Blueyed Girl...that is the beginning of Speed Weeks in Daytona...there are several NASCAR events that week, and major spillover throughout the Central Florida area. You should see I-4 going toward Daytona every morning that week! The NASCAR drivers also test in Lakeland, south of WDW. Finally, other areas of the country have winter recess that week so while not true peak season, it is fairly busy in the area.

When I was searching thru wonderful weeks of Disney for 07 they seemed to show in the "not so busy" season but also had other activites planned. Like for Fall of 07 that is the Preschool age and during the spring it was the Epcot flower exhibit. I know those aren't the correct names but you get the idea ;) Anyhow I didn't think it had anything to do with price or trying to fit into a certain season :confused3

I just looked up all activities for the week we are planning on going because I remember being stressed about it last year too. Here's what's happening this year: Field Hockey showcase Feb 7-10 / National high school cheerleading championships 9,10,11th / And Daytona "shootout", "pole qualifying", & "Gator duel" (whatever that is because I dont' watch Nascar) is on 9,10, &14th.

I am clear for twirlmania, soccer, & most of the events mentioned above are taking place the first weekend we get there. We will get there on a Saturday and I remember MK being packed that day last year but after that it wasn't bad. And it was not even close to comparable to summer time. We only saw cheer/dance kids when entering MK because they were in a parade. Didn't see any mis-behaving like we were affraid of. Also, last year we arrived in Orlando on the 1st day of all this Daytona stuff and didn't notice an increase due to that at all. The 300 & 500 aren't until after we leave. I'm pretty sure those are the Daytona events to watch out for mostly.

There is also the builders convention this year which they had last year. I didn't see crowding in the parks but like I said earlier, the resorts were booked solid. This year the convention will start on our last 2 days which will be a wednesday & thursday. So, I'm not too worried about them packing the parks until the weekend and we will be gone by then.

All in all I think it will work out about the same as last year. Were there lines? Yes sometimes, but nothing a fastpass here or there couldn't handle.

FYI- Mardi Gras is Feb. 5- thought you all might want to add that to your lists!

I wish we could go for Mardi Gras too. Especially since there will be so many fellow Louisiana-ian's there.:) But, DH can't get off that week.:sad2: BUMMER!

Hi all

I just had a play on the website and you can book rooms if you check in before 31st Dec. They are giving you a price for each night

These are the prices I came up with if booking a room from 31st Dec-7th Jan
Value $129 standard
$141 Preferred

Mod $199 standard
$225 Preferred

AKL $359 standard
$435 Savannah view

GF $579 Garden view
$720 MK view

I hope that the prices are only this expensive because you would be checking in on new years eve, but there goes the rumour that the prices are going to change for each night you are there

I only hope that there will be some further changes, because we were hoping for a much cheaper rate for 1/4-1/12

:rotfl2:
