From Screamscape:
(1/7/09) According to the E-Brands website employment section they are now hiring for a new location called “Salty Rim in Downtown Disney (Opening 2009)”. The site’s list of restaurants list the new concept’s full name as Salty Rim Dockside Café. From the sound of things, this is likely the concept formerly known as “La Dolbe”. From another source we get the following text that I believe may be from the newest Disney Eyes & Ears newsletter, “A restaurant and bar opening in spring 2009 in Downtown Disney will feature Mexican and South American cuisine, an international wine bar and a tequila bar of more than 50 kinds of tequila and 10 signature frozen margaritas. The new, as-yet-unnamed restaurant is being developed by E-Brands Restaurant Group, a multi-concept restaurant group that currently owns and operates Timpano Chophouse and Martini Bars, Samba Rooms, Taqueria Canonita, Aquaknox, David Burke, Salsa Orlando and Canonita Express in a number of cities across the United States. The restaurant will be open daily from 11 a.m. until late night, with nightly entertainment.”

I understand the idea behind the name...but it just doesn't really scream the concept to me unless it was just a margarita bar or a seafood place.

Sounds like Gloria Estafans place. You know, the big pineapple. on the Westside...........Oh yea, I remember, Bongos.

Sounds good to me!! Wonder what the nightly entertainment might be??

A wine bar, 50 kinds of tequila and 10 frozen margaritas . . . yep, that just screams "Family Friendly". Thank goodness they got rid of those clubs to make way for this! Now no one will have to worry about any misbehavior from any drunken clubgoers. (Drunken tequila bar goers, on the other hand . . . ) I wonder if people will still be thanking Disney for closing the clubs in favor of more family friendly shopping and dining after this place opens.

At least it appears that they are still planning on doing something with the area, I guess. I probably would have tried the place if the Adventurers Club was still there to draw me to the area, but it doesn't sound like the kind of thing that is worth making a special trip to Downtown Disney for.

Well, they announced it as a tequila bar, opening Summer 2008. And they already have a margarita stand.

And the 2008 press release for the Food and Wine Festival even mentioned "Mexico's new tequila bar is perfect for cool sips on a warm autumn evening." They advertised it as if it was already there.

This press release now lists it for 2010. Pretty typical - announce it 3 years before they even start...

The family friendly thing was a smokescreen. What WDW wants is to replace PI with establishments run by third parties. Of course they're putting in a tequila bar with live entertainment and dancing. There's lots of adults out here complaining that there isn't anything to do at night now. (Personally I am not into music and dancing. I like tequila though)

The AC is gone because Disney no longer wanted to run it, not because it wasn't family-friendly. They will make far more profit from a restaurant and bar open from 11 AM to late night and run by a lessee than they ever did from a cabaret bar open between 8 PM and 1:30 AM for which Disney itself had to pay for staffing, stock and maintenance.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head. Disney's expenses drop considerably when they lease these eateries to outside concerns.

BINGO!! Now if only I could find a way to buy mannequins and operate as a third party...

Unfortunately, the cost to their customers increases and the customers enjoyment of the experience decreases when activities are outsourced. Maybe, Disney makes more in the short term but in the long term they don't provide as much opportunity for growth of their customer base.

It would be different if the places going in were really unique. But there is nothing unique about them.
They are just turning DTD into any mall in America. It is becoming nothing more than a tourist trap, as why would anyone else care about going there except a captured audience?

Well that's a good point. I wonder how Bongo's owners feel about this place being constructed right in their back yard since they serve the same exact niche with Latin food and music.

As a non-club goer I will say that these types of restaurants appeal to me more than the old PI did. I am not a bar/club person, but I don't mind going to eat at a restaurant that has or is focused on either one. I think they are trying to make it more diverse, give people a place to go dance, but it be multi-functional.

Now, I did like AC and CW....but might only go to those once a trip....maybe.
