I don't know if this has been discussed yet, but:

CM Mark (our server) at 50s Prime Time Cafe told me that the deluxe dining plan is supposed to change "next year".

He said instead of 1 appetizer and 1 dessert per person, that it will be 1 app and 1 dessert per 2 people. He said it's because they're throwing away ridiculous amounts of food that people are ordering because it's part of the plan, but not eating because it's SO MUCH FOOD.

There's no logic to that. Disney doesn't care about the food thrown away so long as someone pays for it; and when it comes to people on the DDP, Disney is doing quite well, thank you.

If we haven't heard anything on these boards, I doubt any CM at a TS would know different. It would come from Disney Mgmt. first and we'd catch wind of it second. This should probably be placed in the Rumors forum.

Sorry. I wasn't trying to dismiss what you said.

It just sounds like the CM was having a little fun. If I had a dime for every time someone quoted a bus driver with a rumor about a new park, or monorail extension, I'd be on the Premium Plan instead of the Deluxe. If what the CM said was true, or does come to pass, well, that will be the end of western civilization for many on these boards.

With all due respect, jiminy did label this thread as a rumor. I fail to see why you're being so harsh.

I believe there have been occassions where the folks on this board have been surprised by an announcement from Disney. This would not be a first.

Jiminy, thanks for the info. It does make a weird sort of sense if Disney management is thining "green." After all, with so many people starving in the world it hardly seems politically correct for a global company liek Disney to throw away food.

The 2009 plans have already been released for package bookings. This is not part of the deluxe plan as released by Disney for 2009.

But doesn't it make MORE sense to simply reduce the size of each course? I mean, Pumbaa's right - what would happen to a solo diner on the DxDDP?

I think it is important for people to be able to both post the rumor (jiminykrikkit) and post cogent rebuttals to the rumor (Mom of 2, Wife of 1). I agree that there are logistical problems with the content of the rumor, but the point about the CM is most important: We, here on the DIS, typically learn about what's coming up, with respect to most things at WDW, but especially things like the Dining Plan, long before the CMs actually working in the affected areas.

I believe you and the CM had a conversation about food wasting, which you started. SO to promote customer service and to act like they cared made the statement, rumor, joke, which I'm sorry you fell for, because you wanted to beleve it, because you are a "hate wasting / too much food person -cursader".. .. I fall for alot of these type of rumors but mostly about politics.. Just my opinion...

Honey, I called it a rumor. I never said I "fell for it". And no, I didn't "start it". He said that the food I ordered looked like too much food for "a girl my size" and said that's why Disney was thinking of changing it. I posted it on the Dis Boards because I thought that's how people got to discuss things on here. Sorry I didn't get it from high enough in the food chain to be satisfactory to you. Sorry I even bothered. I won't make that mistake again.

HOney, sweety, doll/pal.... I'm sorry you took what I said the wrong way. It was my interpretation of what your situation was.. It was my addition to the discussion of the topic you posted. You should never get emotinal about what someone says and just take it with a grain of salt.
BY calling this a rumor you are implying the "possibility" of the CM statement to be true in your mind. Other wise you would of called it something else. No matter where on the food chain that it came from I would have felt the CM was just appeasing me or calling me a over eater "which if you ment to presented the disscusion that way I'm really sorry and we should get that CM fired". Even though you said you didn't start it there must have been other parts of the conversation pertaining to SO MUCH FOOD. There has to have been another reason(s) than it being a random issue you wanted people to casually discuss. The reason why I said the "hate wasting / too much food person -cursader" is this subject is talked about alot. Also alot of people are touchy about it on both sides..

Just wanted to point out that this Rumors section is in a place called "Just for Fun." I don't understand why people have to get so rude and know-it-all-ish. Rumors are supposed to be fun, and create discussion, not create attack-people, know-it-alls. Rumors are started from 1 person, and one point in time, just because you haven't heard it yet on here, doesn't mean it's not a significant rumor. Some people need to back down and loosen up. Have some fun!

I see where this rumor might have been something discussed in upper management due to food waste and Disney going "green." It makes sense, although I do not think this will be implemented in the next year. Maybe at some point they will create a "Couple Plan." One that you can sign up for and share the desserts and appetizers like you said. That would have been perfect when my family tried it. We just felt like it was WAY too much food and we were ill that trip trying to make the plan "worth it." We won't make that mistake again. We're more snackers anyway.

I think coming down on people for participating in the forum the way they wish is pretty much doing to them what you're suggesting that they were doing. I think it best to leave it up to the moderators to determine what is and isn't appropriate, rather than trying to police the thread yourself.

Am I the only one bothered by the fact that the CM would even think of saying this to the OP? What business is it of his how much food she orders regardless of her size? I think that was incredibly rude!!
