Hi Everyone,

Word has it that a new interactive queue is coming to the Haunted Mansion. This may have been discussed already, but didn't see another thread. Sorry if I missed it.

Has anyone seen the walls up along the queue line.....Someone said they have walls up along where the tombstones reside.

Pic that my friend posted on twitter at 11:10 this morning. Not sure what is going on but can confirm that the refurb walls location.

Cool...hope it's finished by December

Aaron! Are you spreading my rumor!? :rotfl:

I read a blurb about it on StitchKingdom (I think) about the walls and that they may possibly be doing something to the graveyard.

From the Disney Blog:

New Interactive Features coming to Haunted Mansion Queue
Posted on October 7, 2010 by John Frost

Walls have recently gone up around the queue of The Haunted Mansion at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. Workers have begun the installation process for some new interactive elements that will be added to the queue. WDWMagic has some images from a test that was done back in April of an interactive game in the queue. It sounds like the current installation will involve something similar.

They also mention something about this being part of the Next-Gen project. I haven’t heard that, but I do know that Disney is concerned with improving guest satisfaction in the parks. The number one complaint is having to wait in queue for attractions.

Fastpass is one attempt to solve that (and generate incremental retail and food sales). Alas, the benefits from fastpass was not as great as Disney thought and it continues to rank up there in complaints from those who either arrive to late in the day to use it or don’t understand it. Plus, there are fewer attractions where Fastpass is actually useful without effectively reducing attraction capacity and increasing labor costs.

While the Tiki Room has one of the original interactive queues, the modern implementation of interactive queues can be traced back to the Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland. Rather than long switchbacks, guests were wound through rooms where various interactive show elements could be engaged. The recent queue enhancements at Orlando’s Space Mountain is another example. A similar idea at EPCOT’s Soarin’ hasn’t been quite as successful.

The Haunted Mansion is just one attraction getting these elements. Winnie the Pooh at the Magic Kingdom, Rock’n'Roller Coaster at DHS, and Dumbo in the new Fantasyland expansion have all been ‘announced’ as candidates for new-style queues. Obviously, there are plenty of other candidates. Are there any you’d like to see Disney tackle next?

Is this part of the secretive Next-Gen project or just another attempt to drive up guest satisfaction scores? I can’t wait to find out.

Ah! See....I knew it was mentioned somewhere. :)

Thanks for posting the pic and other info gang!

So, what does everyone think? Will they be taking away the gravestones? I sure hope not.

I think that this is very exciting. I am thrilled about the Fantasyland expansion and what they've come up with for the Dumbo attraction. I talked to quite a few people on my way to Orlando (in the airport) and while down there about it. They all said it was a welcome idea. Here's hoping that this pulls through as something awesome! :)

Word is that the existing tombstones are being replaced with something more "interactive"...

I was shocked how fast the walls were put up. We went to the MNSSHP on Sunday Oct 3 and they were not up yet. By Thursday they were.

Weird.

But it was nice to see them moving along with the FantasyLand construction. In July all you saw was a mound of dirt - Now you can actually see the structures taking shape..

Can't wait for it to be completed.

Lou mongello posted that the tombstones are gone

Oh I hope they aren't gone completely. My Dad (Dave) always loved the tombstone about Dave chased a bear into a cave. It always make me smile and remember him when I see it! I even took a pic of it in the Boo to You parade!

I thought the same thing. "They weren't up last Sunday." Things move quickly at WDW, though. Just sort of surprised that they would choose to do this now, as isn't this the prime time for the Haunted Mansion--Halloween?

Also thought the same thing about the Fantasyland expansion. We were like "look, its a building! Its a HUGE building!"

I love the tombstones too! Especially the one where the eyes open suddenly!

I like the idea of the interactive queue line (my boyfriend really wanted to queue for space mountain just to have a try!), but I hope the tombstones get relocated, I thought they were cute and funny!

Oh, I hope they keep Madam Leota's tombstone!
