Rumor: Full The Force Awakens trailer to debut during Monday Night Football

What is the feedback?

Sounds like minimal story line given away.

But appears to be a bit less childish, in a good way correct? Or too early to tell.

Anyone still want to disagree with me that this is going to blow up Jurassic World's record?

No way. People weren't buying tickets like this for that movie. This is going to be HUGE. Even if it sucks, it's going to easily get the opening weekend record.

Anyone that denies Star Wars SINGULARY position in American/world pop culture is a fool...

We've seen all kinds of dumb comparison...Harry potter...avatar...avengers.

People that look at raw, inflated numbers just don't understand what Star Wars was/is...it invented modern Hollywood...more or less.

Just like Disney invented a new version of the failing amusement park industry in 1955.

Even with the awful prequels...and the stories were as bad as you could conceivably get with the story already half written...Star Wars survives and may be on the verge of a new explosion. I don't think any other franchise could stand that...it alienated 100s of millions of longtime fans.

Any comparison to this recent run of junk to the whole picture of Star Wars would be like comparing moulin rouge to the wizard of oz...

Somethings are transcendent.

I had cinemark's page pulled up with Dec 17th a while before the supposed half time presale. At around 6:50 I happened to hit f5 and saw times had appeared. I clicked a 7pm showing in a reserved seat theater with the works (XD, 3d, blah blah blah) and it popped up and only like 6 seats were already taken. I don't think the half time show happened until around 9:10, so over 2 hours later. Surprisingly, some end seats were still available in the theater by that time.

On the other hand, my brother had been trying to get seats at the Alamo Drafthouse, and their system had essentially shut down.

Glad to hear you managed to snag seats this morning rteetz.

We are actually getting back from WDW 2 days before the movie hits... so after 10 days of constant star wars hype down in Florida, you can bet I'll be ready to finally see what it was all about.

I'm actually glad I'm missing the "runup" to Star Wars at the Disney properties...

It's already commercial and has been babied enough since 1999...I don't need more of that leading up to what seems to be an appropriate, darker film.

One of the misconceptions about the originals was that it was for kids. Kids liked them...but the core themes and stories are almost tribal...very "human"...no pun intended...in many ways.

I'll enjoy the corny Jedi training academy Schtick and appreciated the Mickey Jedi toys far more AFTER I see the movie and see if we got something here...

And yet, your average 20-25 year old these days was exactly the age Lucas was targeting with Episode 1, and I am often amazed at how much that age group still loves that movie. Apart from the crazy hype with all the fast food toys, the collectible pepsi cans, and the above average pod racing game - the movie itself apparently checked many of the boxes that a 5-10 year old kid needed checked.

Now all the alienated fans get to come back as well as all the fans that were indoctrinated by the 1998 crapfest. That is quite a few generations of fans lining up to buy tickets.

I hope Triumph the Insult Comic Dog does interviews with the fans again!

I'm not sure what to expect while I'm there. I just watched a video yesterday that recapped the absolutely insane hype machine that pushed Episode One into theaters. Lucas was releasing videos on the web as early as 1994(!) talking about the writing process. I had blanked out so much of it. Taco Bell, KFC, and Pizza Hut all became different groups (federation, rebellion, etc). Giant promotions ensued where people had to eat at all three restaurants to collect tokens to enter contests. Fox didn't allow presales, leading to people camping for months (I didn't believe it was actually that long until I watched the recorded newscast interviews). And amazingly, Lucas paid less than 20 million for all that hype. He let the media do it all for him. He banked on the fact that companies would approach him and ASK to use Star Wars in their brand (like the KFC thing above). Or Pepsi asking to make the 24 collectible cans.

This time around, things have been MUCH more subdued.

The only thing I know for sure Disney is doing is the Launch Bay at DHS, which is primarily there for the expansion but I'm sure will be used to push the movie for now (especially with the land so far out).

I would actually be surprised if I ran into much Star Wars presence outside of that part of DHS or maybe Disney Springs. Disney seems so slow to react to things sometimes, that I almost expect a bigger presence advertising the movie AFTER it is released compared to before. Who knows. I'm interested to see though.

I agree...and I have no doubt Disney made the purchase almost exclusively because of this...

Let's face it: the first fans were never as emotionally invested in the backstory as the continuation...

I honestly didn't care...and Lucas didn't make me

Now it's on...the kid in me is just geeked. The adult in me is fascinated at this:

The first 3 movies had a harsh, dictatorial order

The second had a ineffective, bureaucratic order...

The trailers allude to almost "no order"...more like factions or tribal conflict.

That's so intriguing.

...and I'm guessing why Lucas quipped that they "threw out" his ideas.

No "new republic"...no lack of depth that leads to a cgi carnival of freaks.

So...in Abrams/kasdan/Kennedy I trust...I guess

Oooh. Lucas said they "threw out" his ideas? I had missed that article/interview. Now I'm quite intrigued, specifically because that means I don't have to worry about Disney trying to shine his turds.

oh man... I just saw this "George Lucas" version of the original Force Awakens trailer for the first time.... LMAO!

Robert smigel...

That was maybe the best clip ever from that show...

Where he leans over to the belly of the pregnant Princess Leia and says: "pay attention...listen to me...this is the last time in your life you will be this close to female genitalia"

One of the best pure Comedy bits ever..
That and when he goes to the Westminster dog show

If you want to see it for free (and several times) just book yourself for a Disney cruise for opening weekend and you'll be able to see it at midnight! You're choice of 2D or 3D! And no Extra charge! ;)

Football started at 8:15 pm, DS said he was able to get to tickets on Fandango at 8:32 pm .... that is one short football half.
Half? The Giants were done by that point I think. Maybe THEY were all hyped about getting tickets and not the game.

Our major theaters around here are Marcus. When going on fandango last night Marcus wasn't even listed only the lone AMC theater in my area. Luckily I went on this morning and 7:00 pm Dec. 17th in 3D was available.

Now even tho I wouldn't book a cruise just for that it would be a cool perk of I had one booked at that time.

So book the most expensive/overpriced cruiseships in the industry to see a movie for free?

And you probably won't get a seat anyway?

...who's your accountant?

You're forgetting Jaws. That was the film that really gave us the summer blockbuster. Star Wars (or more accurately Lucas) is generally considered more influential for redefining just how important tie-in merchandising could be to a movie.

No...I didn't forget it. Jaws was the first summer blockbuster by most film historians...it definitely planted the seed.

Star Wars was just on another sphere - my opinion - mainly because of the merchandising angle and the fact that the movie was appropriate for all ages...jaws is not.

Add raiders and finally E.T....and that is the modern film industry.

So thanks, George and Steve :)

From what I've seen is "cautious, reserved optimism"...

Which is how I and I would bet most semi diehard fans would describe the last 3 years...

I don't think Abrams and Iger would allow this to be screwed up...

As the cheap product, egomaniacal incident in 1999 warns us.

Most of the teenage fan community which I am in is very excited especially once they saw the trailer. I had one friend that he didn't think the trailer was that great but everyone else I've talked to liked it.

He did...Several times...last year...

So he's taken the "I'm just a fan" approach.

How did you miss that trailer? It was pure genius...

And the best proof of just how awful most of the fanbase thinks those movies were...no matter what they say officially.

And why most of us are privately glad that he sold out...he obviously has no interest in doing things that make sense to a mass audience...more somekind of genre take that's outdated and an ungodly love for Apple products...

You can make a good movie that isn't completely boring...it had been done many times...not much recently though.
