RUMOR: Disney and WB to Bring Lord of the Rings to Parks?

Sons of Gadsen you gotta be my favorite person to discuss ideas with for your not the typical Disney die hard that thinks anything said badly about Dsiney is a sin.I appreciate your open mind and thoughts. Now onto our discussion.I think Hollywood studios was badly thought out even from the start because Disney was to worried about opening it before Universal Studios and now they are paying for it.(my opinion).I would rather Disney make HS into a park with Toy Story,Monsters Inc,Star Wars,CarsLand, and redo Indiana Jones Like in California.Maybe bring Pirates of the Carribean to life there aswell.LOTR I still think needs to be at Universal for it just fits better.I mean in honesty I think Disney and Universal needs to work together in some packaging and pricing deal that monopolizes not only central florida but the theme park industry in whole. They combine there tickets and work together to a point and you still get your regulars but add those that might not have interest in the other.Disney has gotta do something quickly I think about its pricing and single out only those that stay on property gets the real magic(Walt would roll over in his grave on this).Disney use to be open for all to enjoy and share the same experience, but now you only will get that if you stay on property or shell out tremendous amounts of money.Disney relies on Passholders to support there parks (which my family is) and right now we get nothing for our dedication of visiting and spending money all year long(not fair in my opinion).Again these are my opinion and thoughts.

Hollywood studios should be about movies and once it was. Star Wars is probably the biggest franchise ever to come out of a Movie. Know that for over 35 years a portion of my Christmas dollars have gone to Star Wars, for my son and now my grandsons. American Idol was great for my teenage daughter to sing at but is probably not relevant any longer. Sure it would be nice to see more Pixar characters and an area specifically devoted to them, but most of those movies can be mined for attractions for years, so why hurry. LoTR and Hobbit could bring a little fantasy to Hollywood studios which is a little short on female appeal except for the shows. Little Mermaid is a less than wonderful show and unfortunately I have never gotten to see th Beauty and the Beast show. Raiders is not a Disney property yet no one seems to mind it being here, and if you were going to have a car, stunt show why not use Herbie in it? Hollywood studios broke from the Disney mold from the beginning and by adding other name brands such as the Muppets has benefitted for it.

Neither was Star Wars until this past year, nor is most of what's in the Great Movie ride, or Twilight Zone for that matter. The Muppets were purchased by Disney some years after they appeared at then-Disney/MGM Studios.

and if you were going to have a car, stunt show why not use Herbie in it?

Herbie used to be in it...

As long as it stays in DHS, I suppose I'd be OK with this. As others pointed out, Indiana Jones and Star Wars are not (until recently with SW) Disney owned properties but have traditionally always had a place in MGM/DHS.

I love Tolkien and have read LOTR trilogy at least 5 times over the years. Not so much a fan of the movies as they corrupted certain parts of the storyline, but I can appreciate them for how they brought LOTR into the mainstream.

LOTR is a much better choice for a franchise than Avatar, which as of today is still only a one-shot movie which was a rip-off of Fern Gully. At least LOTR has some legitimacy behind it, and Tolkien is considered one of the great English writers. Avatar is simply flashy eye-candy designed to sell 3-d movie tickets.

I will have strong objection to LOTR as a Disney franchise if they try to push it in parks other than DHS, like how Avatar is going into DAK. Neither franchise is iconic, classic Disney. DHS is, however the appropriate place for anything celebrating hollywood and the making of movies.

Perhaps Disney will bring the lovable Rankin-Bass Hobbit to the parks.

(that's a joke!)

Must....not....sing............

Frodo, of the Nine Fingers...

Where there's a whip (*THWAP*), there's a way...

Hey, maybe at the opening they can get Leonard Nimoy to sing the Ballad of Bilbo Baggins.

The what you say? Seriously, look it up...

I picked up a tight end for my "fantasy team" I didn't need and have no intention of ever using-just so nobody else could build it near by...I mean have them on their team to use against me. :rolleyes1

I honestly hope Disney doesn't get LOL for they will ruin it like they have Star Wars and are on there way to ruining Marvel. These are iconic films and books with iconic characters for the true fans that live and breath these films and books.Anyone who thinks seeing Mickey or any other Disney character as a star wars character is completely lost on how iconic these characters are and what they mean in the realm of history.Universal has done great with WWOHP because they left it the way it was meant to be.Disney will soon own the rights to all iconic series in books and movies and ruin them all just for they can make money off them(very sad). This upsets me so much that people think its cute seeing Mickey or some Disney character as an iconic figure from a great book or movie with rich and staying power long past our days in this world.I can only hope Universal gets LOL and does it justice like WWOHP(brought the world to life without ruining the franchise and its Iconic history).I love Mickey and a lot of things Disney, but keep it to Pixar and all the characters they have now not in use(VILLIANS VILLIANS VILLIANS).
:cool1:

I agree. If Disney gets its hands on LOTR and decides to do something with it, it will totally screw it up. I'm guessing, as others have said, it's more of acquiring it so Universal can't do anything with it. We all know, it's Universal, not Disney, that could do it right. The fact that Disney never did anything with a themed Pixar land, is evidence enough. Could you imagine what Universal could have done with it?

Oh I so agree.I will admit if Disney did a Pixar land and did it right that just might be the best land area in any theme park. They would have so much they could do with it,plus I wish they would make a Villian land aswell.

You'll have to forgive me. For some reason this post totally slipped by me and I totally forgot about out conversation. I love having debates about just about any subject when I can find someone, like yourself, that doesn't get hot headed about it. So many people on the internet/forums are so obsessed with being right or wrong, it's often hard to have a decent debate with anyone anymore. It's about the conversation and learning a few things you hadn't thought of! Haha.

All very good points, though. And, to be honest, I totally agree about LotR. I'm not a LotR fan, I saw part of the first movie...didn't like it. Couldn't get through the rest of it. The whole medieval, magical elven thing just is not my thing at all. But, personally, I see it as more of Universal's thing. I don't know why. When I picture that sort of thing, Universal just comes to mind.

You also have to pin DHS on MGM as well. I'm not sure how much who had to do with what, but the park was a collaboration of MGM and Disney. And now that MGM has no hand in it...well, it just wreaks of a terrible situation to me. I don't disagree with your idea for redoing the park with those franchises. Though, I would say Monsters and Toy Story should probably be merged as a Pixarland, and I believe Carsland has been shot down. DHS just needs to pick some franchises and go for it. I always feel like Disney is just better at what they do than Universal. I go to Universal and just get kind of creeped out by the themeing. It all just seems...odd...where as Disney's just looks so real. I feel like they really NEED a new studio to move in, though. And WB seems like an excellent choice. It would be a way for WB to get in on the theme park market, and would help Disney fight back in the Studio Theme Park genre.

I just don't see Universal and Disney ever working together. A LOT of bad blood between the two....all the way back to Walt's history working for them and screwing him for Oswald.

Yay-if true then Disney gets their hands on another multi-billion dollar franchise that they can do nothing with!

With opportunities spanning Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, Avatar and some wonderful home-grown movies, Disney's problem is not WHAT it should be investing in - it's a lack if willingness to actually SPEND money.

I was thinking exactly the same - If they were clever they would invest a lot more into Star Wars - look at what Harry Potter has done for Universal, Star Wars could do the same for Disney.

Saying this Lord of the Rings is also a very popular Franchise which could be a good move.

Now, I will admit, I'm a HUGE LOTR fan, both books and movies, and of Tolkien in general. There are a LOT more stories that would make great movies I believe. Tolkien developed an entire mythology and backstory. The extent is quite amazing. I'd LOVE to see what Disney could do with it. I'd prefer it infinitely over Avatar.

But I will also admit that I don't think it has what would make it more preferable to develop of Star Wars, and that's what Star Wars has had all along...marketing potential. Yes, there are two more movies to come out, but one is just a couple months away, and the other a year after...difficult to strike while the iron is hot. And I just don't see LOTR/Middle-earth merchandise moving like Star Wars stuff.
