Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

Obviously not comparable situations AT ALL but it kind of makes me think of how the pink cake castle made for some really unique WDW pictures in 1997 and dates the pictures from trips during that time.

The cakesle has a very, very special place in my heart. I love it!

Your post and the post you quoted are why I think we would keep our scheduled November trip even if masks are required (assuming nothing else catastrophic/outrageous comes up or is required by then). No it might not be the ideal trip, but it'd definitely be a (hopefully) once-in-a-lifetime kind of experience, and that makes it special in its own way.

If there is one thing I am thankful for that stems from the current budget crunch Disney is facing, it is that nobody is going to get any ideas about spending money to dress up any buildings as a giant cake again. 🤣

Hey I treasure my Easter 1997 pictures! 😂

For real, I think they learned their lesson with that one no matter how big of a budget they have haha.

Oh I have one of those on my parents’ coffee table 😂 Chubby little baby me in an oversized winnie the pooh tshirt. Classic.

Universal hasn’t made an official announcement about their hotels either way up to this point. They are still taking reservations for June.
I received a brief survey from Universal/Royal Pacific earlier today asking under what conditions we would stay at the resort, so maybe they are still fine-tuning their details? I wish I thought to screenshot it before I sent, I tried to backbrowse but couldn't get back to it. They asked questions about cleaning, housekeeping, food services, I want to say there were five questions in all and then a few open-ended areas for comments.

Here is what the email said:
"Travel has been somewhat halted by the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19. The good news is we are now seeing positive signs that it is resuming in the weeks ahead.
Seeking guest feedback and comments is at the core of what makes Loews the company it is today, and this is where we need your input and assistance. As one of our valued guests we ask that you take a few minutes and respond to the brief survey below. Your time and insights will allow us to further plan and prepare, ensuring you are not only comfortable, but also safe and secure during your stay.
We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Thank you in advance for choosing Loews Hotels."

I have always said Disney set the standard on things. They used to be industry leaders. However, the way they are handling things is shifting my perspective quite a bit. I think the management shake-ups, their complexity with over-extension of different aspects, it's made all of this a big tangled mess of wires and that has trickled down to their guest experience and service. There is truth to "the bigger you are the harder you fall".
I am sure that Disney's communication and plan (whenever it comes out) will be well organized, thought out and easy to read like this, BUT it is a bit disappointing to see their "lesser" competitor lead the way here while Disney's guests who have booked vacations just 3 weeks from now still don't know if the parks will be open or if their vacation is cancelled yet .. or if the parks will be open, how it will look.

I am sure they are still fine tuning their details here, but I would have that Disney would have led the way here. A bit shocked.

They simply want to outdo UO. It's chess. In an unpredictable situation, watch the move your opponent makes and react accordingly. The parks are worth so much to Disney that they couldn't risk it all; UO, on the other hand, doesn't have as much to lose, but is more likely to lose it ALL... which is why they jumped into the frying pan.

I still think a major part of it is also a calculation by Disney on how long (i.e., at what capacity) it will take to start turning a profit on the parks. Obviously they are losing money with the parks being closed, but it is not clear how much they're actually losing. There's been a lot about how much revenue they're losing, but we don't know how much actual money they're losing. There are obviously overhead costs associated with all the properties right now (minimal maintenance, utilities, taxes), but they are saving a lot of money with most of the workers furloughed, so it's a much more reduced overhead. Of the often-referenced $30 million per day that they're losing in revenue, it's not clear how much of that is profit. Once they reopen, we don't know how much the operating costs go up and what kind of capacity they need to start to lose less money then they're currently losing. Also, one thing to keep in mind, even when they are less busy overall with crowds in the park, many of the restaurants are just as busy as normal (think of all the restaurants that it doesn't matter the time of year, they're full - whether it's September or Christmas week). So, obviously, a large part of this is logistics and wanting to see how things are going at Disney Springs and perhaps even at Universal. There may also be factoring in a timeframe of how quickly they can ramp capacity back up to numbers that allow them to break even on the parks being open. If they open right away, but have keep capacity reduced for much longer than they would if they wait to reopen, then there may also be financial figures that indicate to them that waiting is the better financial decision.

With the reduced capacity what if Disney added a green - yellow - red indicators for each park in MDE? In the morning all parks are green. As a park nears capacity it turns yellow. Once the park is full it turns red. If they added messages like "This park is expected to reach capacity by 10:30" or even a more vague "within the next hour" they could help people to plan their day. Since we know that capacity is going to be changing week to week this would allow Disney to share some information without giving away their numbers.

That would be nice but what about resort guests who have park hopping tickets??

I would think in this hypothetical scenario you could only hop to green or yellow parks, and a park's color "status" would update constantly as guests entered and exited.

IRL, perhaps park hopping is not allowed for the time being and guests who purchased park hoppers are refunded for that add-on. We don't have any information yet as to how Disney is planning to handle park-hopping or capacity.

The Cake Castle is slowly going from a joke, to a nostalgic memory. A lot of younger hardcore Disney fans werent even born when the 25th occurred

So was there any truth to the Mayor saying Disney is presenting next week?

I understand the angst about Disney opening, but as someone else stated, people look at Disney differently. If anything goes wrong and a "spike" occurs due to a Florida vacation, Disney is going to get roasted. There is a LOT at risk with re-opening. I'm also not sure people aren't taking into account the possible pro sports leagues using Disney to restart. If Disney feels like they can make money/lose less money that way and wait for things to settle/calm and see what the likely changes are to both the virus and the situation regarding cases, etc I think they will deal with being closed and only having the pro teams down there. Heck, it could be interesting to have the pros bring their families, and allow those families to be the tests at different parks. Disney has way too much to lose to get this wrong.

I am reading rumors that CM's are being told August. Shucks. I saw it mentioned three different times on a comment section for "inside the magic". This seems to explain why Disney masks are becoming available later in July.
Wow...that's a big blow because I took Universal as a clear sign of Disney following close behind. Two more months later is a long time. I will probably have to cancel. We are booked for early August but didn't want to be in that first experimental wave of opening.

Anyone can go on there and claim they work for Disney and create a narrative. Theres no background checks when signing up to make sure that person really works security at MK. If CMs were getting calls that they werent needed back until August, we’d know about it. I’m not saying it’s definitely not true, but I wouldnt take any of those comment sections as legitimate sources.

Also, the masks arent all shipping out in July. Some people are still set to receive theirs within the next couple of weeks. It all depends on when you got your order in

Thank you. This is helpful. Three different people corroborating that rumor definitely made me feel like it's true. I'm surprised they would commit to even telling CM's that far in advance when it has been touch and go for everything else. I was on the fence until Universal announced early June. I thought for sure Disney would never wait too much longer than July. Wow. Nothing like being in full suspense 🥴. There are people with June bookings still trying to have hope 🤞

It could very well be true, but I would just be weary about public comment sections when people are claiming to know whats going on through sources. A lot of them are lies to generate attention.
