Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

That works for Disney, but would it work for Universal? Or the other big tourist attractions we have here.
This now-cancelled March trip for DD was to be my first time at Disney in a decade.

DD has always been tall and loves thrill rides. Ain't no coaster too scary for her, ever since she could ride RnRC when she was 6 (she's 5' 9" now at 16). Disney has fewer thrill rides than Universal, so we started going to UO/IOA.

It's Galaxy's Edge and RoTR that lured us back under the wicked Rat's spell! (looks sadly at empty wallet)

I just realized that I didn't actually say anything in my previous post... yes, whatever Disney and Universal roll out will be very similar, IMO.

Been to Universal many times over the last few years, and the steps outlined can be just as easily implemented at Universal as at Disney. Heck, maybe more so... Universal has actual scanners for bags, which, from what I read, are far more efficient than the hand-in-bags check at Disney, so they're pretty good at efficacy.

I’m a weirdo who brings my own liquid hand soap on trips. :rotfl2:

Not weird. I think liquid hand soap should've been standard in hotels decades ago.

Anyone have any idea what their doing about bag check, as I wouldn't want some person going through my bag after someone else's.

I've said it a few times, it is past time they switched to x-ray. I thought they would when they started re-doing the entrances. It's faster, more thorough, and more sanitary, unless your stuff requires personal inspection. If Disney doesn't switch to x-rays I will designate a few ziplocs for theme park trips, pack my stuff in those, and pull them out of my bag for the guard to see. After I get through security I can re-arrange as necessary. One of the questions on Universal's passholder survey asked if the elimination of x-ray bag checks would make you more or less likely to visit, so they are thinking about it- but that system is fine. Unfortunately we do need bag checks, and Universal's method is good. The only thing they could do better is allow you to hold your phone etc above your head as you walk through the metal detector like at Disney- much better than using the same little bowl others have been using.

I wonder how social distancing will affect rides like ROTR where you sit close together in the ride vehicle unlike a roller coaster where you could be spaced out further. As far as the masks, mines always slide off my ears so I could see mask easily flying off when on a coaster creating another issue.

If I remember right it said they shouldn’t be stocked, I think it’s referring to hotels that keep overpriced booze/beverages/snacks in the room for guests to eat then be charged for.

Yea, very well could be - need my fridge ! :))

Oooh, I'll bet they add more bus tubs and wipe them out periodically. Once+done, add to stack, then when they get low on new ones, start wiping the used ones with disinfectant wipes & add back into circulation.

The Universal in Hollywood has xrays for bags and I liked it. Security was much faster. I wouldn't mind if it came to Disney.

I have already checked in for my June trip and had declined housekeeping. I went back in to change my room request last week and it still showed the option to decline it. Today, that option is completely gone from the Update check in area.

Just for the sake of argument
I think we can agree that the virus had to have been present at WDW before the closing
We know the parks and Disney springs were packed before the closing
We know there wasn't an outbreak coming from WDW, sure people might've been infected, sick, some even died but not an outbreak. Most recuperated
This was all before most people were taking precautions
Most of the country and the world has been shutdown, people staying at home making sure not to contract or spread the virus
WDW is reopening with extra precautions in place
People are better educated and aware on what to do
When guests come back they will mostly all be free of virus
Why is there such a fear of reopening?
ETA I know there are asymptomatic people but if you've been home for 14 days at least it has gone through your system already
This is how I feel. I feel like I was more at risk in my last trip 2/26-3/3 than I would be this time in July.

Huh. Now I'm wondering now if we'll get our "decline housekeeping" gift card, even if we previously completed online check-in and chose that option... Not a big deal or anything, but I'm curious.

I must be missing something here with all of these posts related to how Disney will implement social distancing. In my opinion, they won’t. Not because they don’t want to, because it’s impossible. Social distancing is the exact opposite of a theme park experience. They can put all the tape on the floor they want, but it won’t do a thing. People can’t even follow the one way aisles at my local Kroger, do we really expect thousands of people to stand on the right square in a 3 hour FOP line?!? I certainly think they will open with limited overall capacity, enhanced cleaning and perhaps some changes to food service at buffets, drink dispensers, etc....but I honestly don’t think they will be implementing social distancing in any meaningful way.
At the end of the day, the effectiveness of the protective measures will come down to willingness of guests to comply with the measures.

We've talked a lot about how even if they make masks mandatory, some guests will refuse, and if they make them recommended, even fewer will wear them.

We've talked about how they can make the parks have marked "lanes" and make everyone go in one direction, with one entrance and one exit at stores and lands, so that social distance is maintained, but guests will have to follow them.

We've talked about queues having markings that indicate where to wait, but again, guests have to comply and follow it to maintain social distance.

We've talked about how guests will have to take responsibility for frequently washing their hands, and again it's up to the guest to comply.

Each of these modifications is not super effective on its own, but if everyone complies, all of them together are more effective than not having them. But, again, guests will have to take responsibility for following the walking directions and wait markings, put on a mask, and take time away from fun to wash hands frequently. It's a culture of effectiveness - doesn't have to be perfect, it has to be good enough, and that will be helpful, but cannot act entitled and cut across someone following the walking lanes, LOL.

I keep thinking about deal breakers for wdw, but airlines may implement rules that will also be deal breakers for us. Flying with a 2 yr old is hard enough much less trying to keep a mask on him. We fly southwest. I am only booked with points so can easily cancel. I know it’s a fluid situation still, but I really wish companies would decide on their policies one way or another so we can make decisions. We can easily drive to wdw, but it would be quicker, more convenient, & cheaper to fly (usually). Also if wdw says no transportation then driving would be better for us. And I would change resorts. Ugh!
I also share this concern. We won't be able to fly if we have to wear masks on the plane. My 7 month old son gets scared and cries when I wear a mask. There's no way I could take him on a 3.5 hour plane ride and have him crying the whole time. It would be nice to know what the travel industry as a whole plans to do so that we could plan accordingly.

Exactly, and my confidence is low that the vast majority of guests will be up for that level of commitment. It’s just not going to happen.
