Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

Unless they limited it starting last June I don't see how. There will be a ton of people who can't go or won't go now, so maybe that will help keep the numbers down.
Just because they didn't limit the DVC reservations doesn't mean they won't bump half of them to other Deluxe hotels where they might possibly have limited them. For instance move all those who reserved Studio's to GF, CR, YC, BC, AK, WL. That would thin out the DVC locations enough to not overcrowd from a social distancing standpoint. Especially if they start out with just DVC for the initial few weeks.

If those resorts aren't already full, though. I am sure plenty of people canceled already, but people started booking for this June 499 days in advance. What makes you think there's room for all of those DVC bookings?

Well, I did include these two things in my post- "where they might possibly have limited them" and "Especially if they start out with just DVC for the initial few weeks." :thumbsup2

And, my guess is there will be many adjustments to schedule, ride availability and restaurant availability which will open up all kinds of rooms when people cancel their reservations. pirate:

Either way there is going to be a lot of upset people when Disney cancels or reschedules then again.

Yeah, I get that. But, on the counter, there would have been a lot of "upset people" if they took no reservations, then opened up the phone lines and on line reservations one day and people couldn't get through or got locked up during on line ressies and miss out on getting each and ever specific date. It really was and is a no win situation. People will be "upset" over everything. That is why people in customer service jobs can just smile (and then drink heavily when they get home pirate:)

I still of the opinion they should have done what Universal did. Open reservations online only and don't offer any discounts or incentives to book. That's where I think Disney erred in offering free dining.

Yes, I was only referring to people re-booking. But just because it’s not available thru DVC doesn’t mean the resort is full. We added ours on in late March and had no problem with availability. I would imagine they’ve had a great many people cancel even for trips after June 1.

We just got guidelines and requirements from AAU for the Orlando volleyball tournament, held June 16th-28th. They are ditching ESPN and doing everything at the Orange County Convention Center. Do they have insider info that ESPN will be closed? Are they just tired of waiting on Disney to make a decision? Do they just not want to pay ESPN fees when they don't need the space? No way to know.

Here are the guidelines (not the speculation, but the actual guidelines):

No spectators (except for 10 chaperones and 5 bench personnel for each team)
No international teams
Masks are "encouraged"
Temp checks required for all
Limited number of vendors so courts can be spaced farther apart
Doors will be marked "entrance" and "exit"
No drink stations (teams must bring their own water and drinks)
No handshakes
Rigorous cleaning and sanitation measures (including ultraviolet light to disinfect the facilities)
Courts and balls disinfected between matches
Hand sanitizing stations
Event staff supplied with gloves and masks
No Opening Ceremonies "but tickets for the Disney theme parks and the water park parties are still available online"

With this level of safety i'm gonna say that Disney will not be open before that is played

I said it a while back in one of these threads: There is always someone that doesn't know the policies and that person will throw a tantrum at the gates. It will happen multiple times a day for a long time.
Yes and what about all the people that wont practice social distancing in the lines. People at WDW don't follow rules now and Disney is very lax on enforcing their own rules. I would love to see WDW open. I have had to cancel my May trip but when they do it is going to be a big mess.

That was my first thought when I saw the pictures from Shanghai of the social distancing markers on the ground ... that is all well and good but what happens when people don't follow that and are right up next to you ? I mean, some might just not be thinking and when reminded by a CM will apologies and back up, but others you know won't care

Guess you just have to know going in if you choose to go that Disney can put in measures to reduce exposure/makes things a bit safer, but you can't rely on that and are still taking a chance to some extent even if you personally follow all the guidelines (and didn't just mean "you" specifically, more the universal "you")

That is possible.

But on the other hand, I would imagine the people who issued these guidelines have been in on those meetings with Disney and DeSantis and Universal and the other big business people in Florida. These guidelines appear optimistic that Disney will be open in some form or fashion.

Most of us are still in the "Who Knows?" stage. But I suspect there are an elite few who aren't.

Along with the rest of my fellow DISers, I would like nothing better than to be at WDW right now, but, seriously, do you believe that WDW would reopen if there were significant risk of infection to both its CMs and its guests?

Forget lawsuits--Disney's reputation as a safe place to be would be annihilated. We trust Disney--that's one of the main aspects of their brand. When I go to a county fair, for example, and look at the rides there, I'm not confident they're safe, no matter who supposedly inspected them. But when I'm at Disney, I know that the rides are safe. If Disney reopens while this pandemic is still going on, my confidence in them will be destroyed.

For all one's thoughts about how much Disney has been raising prices recently, it never once crossed my mind that they would ever do anything that would endanger their guests. Greedy? Perhaps. Dangerous? Never. I hope I'm not proven wrong.

Edited to Add: BTW, if a number of guests would get infected while at WDW or DLR, it would eventually be traced back to their visit, because at some point in the not-distant future, contact tracing is going to be done better and more thoroughly than it currently is. Maybe not in your state, but in enough states that the source would definitely be identified. And, of course, if CMs get infected, there'd be no denying that they were at Disney.

Absolutely @TheMaxRebo ! I ventured out to our Walmart Super store yesterday first time in over a month.
They have limited the amount of people allowed in the store at one time. They also have stickers on the floors for directions up and down the aisles.
Also by dairy and meat dept were stickers on the floor to maintain 6 foot distance. I live in Pa. where masks are required to enter businesses.
Well there was very little social distancing and many people that I saw I guess thought once they were inside the store wearing masks were optional. Of course there is was no one to enforce any of this.
I don't envy Disney with the decisions they are grappling with but having seen over the years what some of the cm's have had to put up with , their jobs are going to become much more stressful and difficult.

They probably ditched ESPN because of the potential of MLB or NBA being played there. This is really good news for the probabilty of parks being in soft open in late June.

I am sorry if this has already been discussed and I missed it. But, I had a thought.

Part of the thing going forward, for both the parks and DCL is going to be procurement of tests. And they are kind of in a no-win scenario. If they are able to pay big bucks to get enough tests, the PR out there will be that big corporations are "stealing" tests from individuals who have not been able to be tested. But, the numbers of tests could be massive.

Could anyone see, rather than attempting to purchase tests from worldwide vendors in huge numbers....could anyone see Disney simply hiring a Coronavirus crew and purchasing a fleet of Abbot (or wherever) testers. Maybe hire a handful of epidemiologists to sort of monitor tests coming in, hot spots, etc, hire a crew of people to manufacture the tests in house. Would it be cheap? Probably not. But, neither is going to be buying hundreds of thousands of tests a pop.

We all know that Disney likes to do as much in house as possible. If there is a way to keep as much in their control as they can, they are going to do it. Am I just being crazy here?

I truly think this is one of the biggest hurdles for them. When Disney opens, even if there is still risk, there are people who will believe it is safe because they believe Disney wouldn’t open before it was totally safe.

So when people say that others need to take personal responsibility, that’s all well and fine. But there is going to be a group who believes that if Disney is open, it is totally safe. If Disney opens too early & large numbers of cases are traced back, it would be devastating for their image.

There was backlash about how they paraded Josh D’Amaro out in shoulder to shoulder crowds the night MK closed. High fiving in the dense crowds, etc. Disney posted a goodbye video from that on YouTube that was up only for a very short time because they were getting roasted on social media for it. Disneyland closed earlier than WDW & WDW received bad press for staying open longer and allowing densely packed crowds. Our schools were already closed and WDW had people packed in. It was a bad look. They were already being pegged as putting profits over safety.

Imagine what will happen if they open too early. They have to be so, so careful here.

Its taking time, but slowly more and more people are accepting that there must be a new normal and it will need to last for longer than a few weeks.

yup...we just bailed on Nov trip. We banked our DVC points, cancelled airfare etc. We were getting tired of thinking about it given all the uncertainties (and complications coming from Canada) and outlook for a significantly lesser experience at WDW. Disappointed but now almost feel relieved. Look forward to day we return.
