Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

It’s not really the masks, or distancing, or anything individual that bums me out, it’s the entire thing and they just drive home it being real.

I’m bummed about Disney yes, but more so about schools, sports, family gatherings, going out to eat, and really day to day life in general being impacted. And it takes this way too OT so I’ll just say agree to disagree about this being over completely sooner than later.

I have given up hope of going out to dinner here until maybe spring 2021 and I'm not actually kidding! :rotfl:

Watching what's happening today doesn't really bum me out at all. I would love to be able to go out and do something like this, even if it means wearing a mask. We can't even go to parks or the lakefront here.

Yes as of today, what I am saying that will change by June.

I'm not sure if by june but a lot will just depend on what happens to the numbers as things open back up. If people and businesses together do their part and numbers (mainly hospital, icu) keep going down then a lot of these things can be relaxed quicker. But a lot will depend on people actually following the rules right now.

I so appreciate the live videos, pics and reports. I agree that all the safety measures are necessary. With that said....I watched with tears in my eyes. I was stunned by my sad reaction, since I knew the safety requirements in advance. It was just so jarring seeing my usual 'happy place', reflecting what is happening in the real world. The mix of fantasy and reality really got to me. ☹️ I realize many won't feel that way. I just wanted to share.

That is truly sad. We have been dining in restaurants, stores for over a week. Only staff wearing a mask in restaurants, about 50/50 in stores our new cases have dropped even with more testing, hospitals have no covid patients etc. Outside rarely see anyone wearing masks, maybe 10-20% at most.

I dont really find any of it depressing. Its necessary, right now. These businesses need to open back up, and they need to take precautions, no matter what percentage of really making a difference it is. These are all temporary measures. Some might stick in minimized form, but masks, temp checks and 6 feet separation wont last. I could see 2-3 feet separation markers moving forward after things get back to “normal”

Most people who are infected don't even develop a fever. My mother knows a doctor who definitely had it (tested positive) and the only symptom he had was some back pain for a few days. No cough. No fever. So how is a temperature checkpoint going to stop him?

Maybe I'm just weird but if I had a 102 fever, I'm not going anywhere but staying in bed. It feels like crap.

I think the vast majority of these "precautions" are just to show people they are doing something. Sort of like security is just a deterrent and makes you feel safer.

I live in Chicago. I'm fine with masks here. We have over 4,000 patients still in hospital.

I agree completely with Universal and Disney requiring masks. I don't love it but who does.

Yup, show they are doing something, makes guests feel better, but unenforceable in any practical sense, that is why it will go away, people can still wear them if it makes them more comfortable.

I don’t think it is sad at all that Disney is taking steps to protect the safety of its cast when it reopens.

The jarring of it reminds me of that first trip to the grocery store when it really started in the US and the meat was gone, and the bread was gone, and the milk and eggs and on and on... beyond the frustration with what was happening there was the emotional hit of "woah. Life as I know it, no longer reality."

Much like the grocery store experience, I know the theme park experience will go back to normal- eventually :)

It looks like I didn't miss too much going over to CityWalk tonight (but will definitely be going shortly). From what I could see, it appears to be quite a few vloggers. I'm really waiting until they open Toothsome as the limited offerings, although appreciated, aren't enough of a draw.

On a somewhat related note it absolutely cracks me up how my kids talk about this, especially my little guys. They sound like a dystopian novel.

“Remember before the virus? We used to go to IHOP.” Yes thanks guys, all the things we have done with you and it’s IHOP you reminisce about 😂

My daughter said “remember when daddy drove me to grandma and papa’s house and you went to work. That was before the coronavirus RUINED EVERYTHING!”

I think the videos/pictures are both sad and happy. I’m glad to see people out and enjoying themselves - sad to see the distancing, masks, etc. Nobody really wears them here, so it’s definitely different.

One thing I haven’t seen yet are any children in the photos. Probably because it’s all locals right now, and not families on vacation. I showed the pictures to 2 of my kids (5 and 7) and they asked if Universal had banned kids due to “The Virus.” (That’s how they refer to it.) They have both told me they will gladly wear a mask to Disney all day long if it’s required.

My kid loves the I Survived book series. I told her she should write her own version of one after this pandemic.

I've seen several kids in pictures and video so far. Masked up, too.
