Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

I am wondering what parents with young kids are supposed to do. No way that my one year old will tolerate wearing a mask. I think it's also potentially unsafe for toddlers and babies to wear one. Even if it's not required that a baby wears one, it makes them more likely to get sick so it's still concerning.

Masks are not recommended for children under 2 years of age. The mask protects others from you, not you from others.

YES! Gloves are so annoying to me. I've seen people do things with them on they wouldn't do otherwise. Disgusting.
Same with the masks. I’ve seen people with them around their necks then wipe their noses with their hands, touch everything in sight and then put the mask back on. Kind of defeats the purpose when your hands are already contaminated. If people are going to wear them, they really should wear them properly.

I imagine babies and toddlers will be exempt like most (all?) places.

I’m kind of confused on your last point, what makes them more likely to get sick, not wearing one? I mean yeah taking a small child to Disney during a pandemic has that risk masked or not.

And people throw them on the ground, too. It's absolutely disgusting. I don't want to see WDW littered with masks and gloves. The trash on the ground in the Hub after fireworks is vile already.

People: “Grocery store workers are the real heroes. They’re out there risking their lives to make sure families are fed. We owe a great deal of debt to them”

:same person turns around to toss dirty mask and gloves on the ground of the grocery store parking lot and pushes their shopping cart into an empty parking spot instead of returning it to the shopping cart drop off 5 feet away:

My children have been to Disney World several times. We were supposed to go in April for Easter but that was obviously canceled. They were super bummed. Now we're supposed to go in August but I told them we may not be able to go because of the virus. My 4 year old daughter's response, "but we can just wear the masks that Nana made for us."

I'd rather not go if we're required to wear masks but apparently my 4 year old doesn't care lol.

When I saw that Hulk mask on the shopdisney site, I knew my nephew would wear that even if there wasn’t a pandemic going on, so maybe it’s not the dealbreaker for a summer trip than we thought it might be.

Good to know, but stating these as fact I'm not so sure. Not sure covid will simply disappear.

I should have mentioned, I am not a doctor lol. But I do know that building immune systems requires exposure to germs. It doesn’t make you immune to illnesses, but it will help battling illnesses. Cleanliness and sanitization is very important during a virus outbreak. But it will have its recourse afterwards with people having little to no exposure to germs for months.

I wonder if that's partly the "2nd wave will be worse" concern.

Yea that's kinda why I asked Sheila-she might have some good insight.

I think that concern is just a guess that with mutation of the virus, there might become stronger strains which may impact people that already contracted the virus. There were studies that the mutating is actually weakening the virus, but only time will tell what a 2nd wave will look like. I think a 2nd wave is inevitable, but it might not be as bad as what we’ve already seen. Typically flu season (I’m not comparing the two other than the time frame) is from the middle of November to the end of March. That’s not set in stone, you can catch the flu in October, and May, but that timeframe is typically when it’s more widespread. We haven’t seen what will become of the virus when heat is consistently high and humidity is up, but some states won’t reach consistent 90-100 degree temps AND 80-100% humidity, so while it could stay dormant in some states, other states might have the problem where it may stay around and get back to being widespread in November/December. Only time will tell

I have a box too. Nitrile. Use them at the gas pumps then peel off after filling. They definitely have their place. Just not something I would hand out at a theme park in the US with CDC's current recommendations.

I carry a pair when I go backpacking. I can’t imagine wearing those all day in FL summer. Plus you’re going to spread it more with them.

Doctors and nurses follow a strict procedure when removing PPE. That’s not doable in a theme park.

This has come up before; usually viruses mutate to become less severe, rather than more so. Viruses only reproduce via a living organism-- if the virus kills the host it is as bad for the virus as it is for the host. This is why the common cold virus(es) are so prevalent; they do not seriously impact the host, so the host survives to spread them.

I think some of these modified experiences will be overlooked by many folks at first, simply because it feels like life can start to begin again.

Oddly my DD snapped D Springs yesterday just to say she missed it.

Honest question sorry a bit off topic.

Are newborns and young toddlers losing out on building immune systems during this? Actually everyone?

Just seems like sheltered in a daily sanitized environment might make them more susceptible to anything the longer they/everyone wait.

Kind of the War of the Worlds type result.
Yes. 100%. Once everything returns to normal people will have to rebuild their immune system. I'm just glad I'm still working at a hospital and hopefully "bringing home" germs to keep my family's immune system up

I wonder if that's partly the "2nd wave will be worse" concern.

In a way.

I think the concerns are the 2nd wave may be worse because not enough people were exposed to COVID-19 specifically to allow for normal to return, not that people’s immune systems are not working as well because of staying home in general. I have read that it can be controlled and mitigated with widespread testing and easing into openings.

So basically the concerns are that we become complacent and open too fast causing the 2nd wave to be worse.

Am I super late in noticing the plastic gloves given during the video on Shanghai? I just saw that now, very smart

So no straws because they are bad for the environment. But disposable plastic gloves? Absolutely. Let's order them by the tens of thousands.

That will be interesting how they balance their image as Concerned-For-The-Environment with Concerned-For-Safety. It's not an easy call.

I believe that’s why SARS dissipated, but I don’t know if that’s a fact.

most mutations are to be less severe because a virus needs a host to survive and so killing a host hurts the virus. So a mutation that kills more will die out quicker. A mutation that kills less will infect more people and therefore become the dominant strain. Survival of the fittest.

Make gloves and masks that after 10 hours they just absorb into the skin. No need to throw them away
