Can someone explain this to me? I am reading this to apply to the the "Disney Collection" or soes it apply to all reservations.

During the last 4 months of your Use Year MS will not allow members to make a reservation for a non-DVC option for travel during that same time period.

Members are allowed to make reservations for dates during the last 4 months of their Use Year as long as they are made prior that time (ie- members with a June use Year can make a Disney Collection reservation for dates from February - May as long as the reservation is made by January 31.

It does not apply to reservations at DVC resorts. Reservations at DVC resorts may be made during the last 4 months of the Use Year for travel during that same timeframe - based on availability.

Here's an example - with a use year of August:

Member wants to use points to stay at the GF in June, 2010. The last four months of an August use year are April, May, June & July. So in order to stay at the GF in June, 2010, the member must make the reservation before the end of March, 2010.

Here's an example with a February use year:

Member wants to stay on points at the Poly for Christmas week in 2010. Last four months of a February use year are the preceding October, November, December and January. So the Poly reservation must be made before the end of September, 2010.

As Doc posted, the rule does not apply to stays at DVC resorts.

So, if you forgot to bank those points to next year and cannot get a DVC villa, you can't use the points for a non-DVC Disney reservation. Kind of like - "Well, I waited to late to get that Christmas holiday vacation with DVC, so I'll just stay at the GF/YC/POR instead." No can do.

Thanks.. This is what I thought I read.. BUT, I was cruising the "rent" board since I may have some to rent. I noticed someone else responded to someone stating they had point but then retracted and stated they were in their "last 4 months" and could not. I asked that poster for clarification and he had responded to me that you could not "book and travel wi/ 4 months." So, I decided to double-check.

You also cannot bank points in the last 4 months of your use year. So if you have a February use year and cancel a January reservation now, it's too late to bank any current year points.

FYI -- the 4 month rule does not apply to disneyland resorts, which often have good availability for points at the last minute. So, if you are down to 4 months and cannot find a dvc reservation to your liking, you can use them for paradise pier or disneyland hotel, or rent to someone hoping to do same.
