Rug or no rug?

Since we've never been to the Fort, we have no clue how necessary it is to have the outdoor rug. We just have a section of the green indoor/outdoor carpet cut to fit along the front of the popup under the awning.

Last trip, we were on a paved site and never bothered to bring it out, so I'm leaning towards not bringing it because it's bulky and takes up a lot of room.

But, if everyone here says I'll regret not having one, then I'll have to reconsider.

Thoughts?

It's probably not necessary for a pop-up, especially for paved sites. I tent camp at the fort and use a strip of green outdoor carpet just outside the entrance and a bath rug for just inside the door. Made a big difference for tent cleanliness! ::yes::

So if you need the space, you probably will not miss the outside carpet.
Have a fun trip!

With our popup we ALWAYS bring two welcome mats with us every time we camp and use them both. We have a big green tarp to lay down if necessary that is a little bigger than the awning (perforated and not that bulky). If you have a Partial/Tent, Full, or Preferred site you will have a sand pad on your site and people will walk across it and track sand/coquina/crushed shell into the trailer. Of course Premiums have no pad.

That's why we use two welcome mats. The first is outside the fold-out step of the popup and is thick and course to knock loose most items off the bottom of shoes. The second is a FW welcome mat and just inside the door on the popup floor to catch the rest of the loose items. I also keep a small 3-foot broom inside for a quick sweep as needed.

So IMO you can probably leave the bulky turf carpet home but I would recommend a double welcome mat strategy.

PS - we also have a "no shoe" rule for inside the popup to cut down on floor crud. DW and I have the ability to break the rule if it's a quick "in-and-out" but all of us kick off the shoes/flip flops/sandals before we normally go inside. BTW that rule is NOT in effect when we are setting up or taking down the popup - only while it's popped up on the site.

We do have a mat just inside the door and also a no shoe rule, so sounds like we'll be fine leaving the big rug at home. We are also bringing a small dustbuster type stick vac, along with the usual broom, with us to make necessary clean-ups quick and easy.

Loislane......did you request a loop?

I requested the 1500. Yes...we are the crazy people who will be tent camping in August, lol. I've looked at some youtube videos of this loop. Looks to be mostly tents and pop ups. I believe a saw a decent amount of that crushed sea shell stuff going on. Thinking your rug question may differ depending on the loop your going to hit. I like the 2 mat solution above. It would be a good happy medium for wherever you park ;)

1) Like a prematurly bald guy.
2) Always have a rug and a spare.

Hey!

Are you making fun of me and my two welcome mats? :lmao:

I'll have you know I have a head full of hair although I hear that kind of thing skips every other generation.

My dad is pretty thin on top.

I feel sorry for my kids. :confused3

I take the carpet with us everytime in the front storage compartment, but if it's an all concrete pad I leave it in storage. I do take an electric leaf blower with me and use it to keep pad cleaned off and cut down on dirt in the camper. Like Bama Ed, we have a strict "no shoes" policy inside the camper, otherwise my wife goes all "Conan the Librarian" on everybody. Also, if it rains and the carpet gets wet, it is heavy, hard to handle, and gets everything else wet when you put it up. I say get the carpet and take it with you at all times, just be selective about when you use it. Or you could get a wig, I mean rug, like Ed uses.

We use one all the time, more so because my DW likes the look of it. It is a folding one we got at Camping World and it takes up minimal room. The one thing I would base it on is if you are one a full paved site or sand/shell site. I do like the no shoes policy, plus never thought to bring my small cordless blower, great idea! Whatever the case, you will have a great time at the Fort!

We requested 1600 - of course no guarantee we'll get it.

I think in the end, we're just going to leave it home unless it looks like we have enough room to easily bring it along. Since we're going to be there for 11 nights, things like clothes are going to take priority.

MushLRC - we'll be in a Fleetwood Niagara popup up, most likely with a tent on site as well, and will have a little orange "Welcome" flag near the camper. Stop in and say hi if you spot us! :)

Put us in the "yes, rug" category. The last trip to the Fort we were on a paved premium site and I felt a little silly putting it out on top of the pavement, but sure enough, by mid week we needed to shake it out a bit.

We never use our big rugs at FW. Just feet wiping mat at the door .But do bring a small electric leaf blower and blow our site off when needed.

Count us in the yes rug category too.... We constantly had tree needles and the rug tends to catch them before they get in the trailer. (We also have a small rug inside the trailer to stop dirt further) We normally carry the indoor outdoor carpet in a Rubbermaid tote and after we put it out, we use the tote for all the shoes... Less crap in the trailer :)

. . . Are you making fun of me and my two welcome mats?

1) Not making fun, Ed.
2) Let's put it this way.
3) Last time at the barber
. . . I ask her for a haircut
. . . she asked if I wanted to pay $15 to cut the ONE that I had left.
4) I knew I was getting old when I had more hair in my ears than on my head.

While we are on the rug discussion, what have you guys found that works best just inside the door of camper? We have a plain rug, but it really just gets in the way. Any suggestions on something good that you have used?

We use a vinyl-backed carpet square with a piece of that no-skid mesh underneath it to hold it in place. Works great! It's rigid and sturdy so it doesn't fold up and such - perfect for wiping feet and catching dirt.

My vote is yes if you're on a partial site. We were there in June and the crushed shell sand they have just spreads everywhere. (We have a no shoes rule also). We actually have 2 rugs-1 the green turf kind that and the 2nd a regular indoor/ outdoor rug. The indoor: outdoor we put under the canopy at the door. The turf goes against it and out to the cement pad. Yes it was yucky packing up because it rained from 10-midnight or so the night before we left, but worth it helping with the spread of the shell.
BTW I saw a way of packing it on pintrest that DH and I are going to try: PVC PIPE. Roll it up and store in the tube. We actually saw it mounted to the camper, but decided not to do that part of it.

Hey Loislane, you never know, we may just bump into each other :thumbsup2

We will be in a green Coleman tent and will have a gander mountain awning or 2 on site. (1 may be OVER the tent for extra shade and rain protection) We will be there for 2 weeks during which we will celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary and my 42nd birthday. Like I've said, tent camping in August may be crazy but it's an adventure. :thumbsup2

Crazy tent camping people - you are going to have a blast - tent camped 3x at Disney - last time was in March when temps dropped to the 40s :) before that was May 2012 - terribly hot - but who cares - it's the Fort - enough said :) It's an excuse to go hang at the pool :) we did the portable AC in the tent and it did nothing during the day - but was fabulous at night - we will be there in August too - but in a travel trailer this time ;)

Don't worry about anything - it will be great!

Thanks for the encouragement!! :goodvibes: When I tell people our plans they look at me like I have 3 heads, lol :rotfl2:

We have 3 boys. The youngest is 6 so we don't plan on midday naps. More like mid day pool so hopefully the AC will give us enough comfort at night
