Rude Walmart experience

Actually, employees have access to that information. So, an employee could send in a person to pick up the layaway...use the 'call my wife, she has all of the pertinent info' (using an untraceable phone) the manager talks to the person with the infor and then they walk out with the layaway. They never would know how the information was obtained, they could not prove an employee was involved.

Believe me, I worked in customer service, this kind of stuff happens more often than you know.

They did the right thing and I am sure you would understand that if you went in and your layaway was gone.

I can understand this but my main peeve is how DH was treated in the process!! No way a customer should be treated the way he was!

Well, you are talking about Walmart. Low prices= less customer service almost every time. I feel for you, but seriously...it's Walmart.

:woohoo: Poohandwendy 1, Wal-mart 0

My God, I hate that place. Any time someone I know complains about something that happened there, I feel completely justified in saying, "I told ya so."

I'm not following how they treated your husband so bad. They couldn't give him the lay away they explained it and he persisted. What else was the clerk to do? I'm sure the other folks waiting in line wanted to be waited on so why shouldn't she have continued on with the line. If he needed to talk to the manager why did she have to stand there and listen. He could have stepped out of line and talked to a supervisor and she could have continued with the other customers.

Don't you drive? If not, it's time to learn, especially with little ones. They are going to need to be driven places for many many years.
I don't know the OPs story but not everyone has the luxury of a drivers license. I had one from 17 to 30 but lost it because I am now legally blind (age 32) and have a disease that will eventually rob me of most of my sight if not all of it. You shouldn't assume everyone is the same.

To the OP if you can't drive things like this are going to keep coming up where you might need your husband to drive you places and the kids wilol be around, It would be best to get some numbers of some babysitters or neighbors to help out.

Also since I don't drive I do alot of onlne shopping, you might consider that too.

OK--But you were still driving a few months ago. Why not just drive to Wal Mart and pick up the lay away?:confused3

You posted this on 8-18-2006::

Yesterday I drove my DH's car to drop my mom off at work and noticed it was running on empty so I stopped to fill it- then the darn car wouldn't start. I called DH who came in my truck to jump it and it was a no go (we've know for awhile it needed a new battery) so we came back home and DH went to bed (he works 3rd shift) and I loaded up the kids and the tools I would need and drove to Autozone where I bought a new battery and new cables.

And now you say this today::

He explained to them that I don't have my license so I couldn't come up on my own and if he drove me we'd have to bring the kids and that'd ruin the surprise ...

:confused3

Was your DH fibbing to the Wal Mart clerk? Do you have your license? Are you able to drive safely now? I hope so since you were driving children around less than 4 months ago :guilty:

Also--Back in August--You drove your mom to work---She works at WAL MART :faint: So you are capable of driving there to pick up your layaway, no?

Wow, another Wal-Mart slamming thread. I forgot to add this to the thread about what gets DISers riled up!

Anyway, Wal-Mart did the right thing IMO. The lay-away is gone now too so you won't have to fool with it ever again either.

:confused3 Do all Heart attack people stop driving?

My brother had a nearly fatal heart attack a few years ago & had to be air lifted to hospital & triple bypass.

After the initial recovery, He still drives 45 minutes to and from work daily.

Nope. Even my 80+ y/o Nana drove after her heart attack.

And apparently Irishbosoxfan didn't stop driving either ;)

aww that sucks!! i never really have good experiences when i go to Wal*Mart anyway. i'm glad you're going to go down there and tell them like it is!

i've had two experiences with them that i can recall where the employees were rude.

#1 DF was with me and i found a shirt i liked and wanted to try it on. no one else was in the dressing area at the time(i don't even think anyone was in the STORE!) and after i tried the shirt on i walked out with it on and waved DF over to come and see how it looked to him. and then the woman basically jumped infront of him and said "NO! YOU CAN'T GO IN THERE!" and i go "well he's just coming to look to see how it is! no one else is in here!" ...."IT DOESN'T MATTER, HE CAN'T COME IN HERE!" so i said "fine" and went back and got my stuff and started walking out of the dressing area when i see a woman and her son walk in. now......if we're going to be anal here, he shouldn't have been in there either! i've had a few occations in dressing rooms and ladies rest rooms where little boys like to crawl under the doors and "surprise" me while i'm in there!

#2 i was going in to buy the movie Brokeback Mountain(no flames, please...i enjoyed the movie) and i went to the cashier and she gives me this disgusted look and says "you know, i haven't sold much of these today" and i just look at her and say "....ok?" and she says again "well.......i was JUST saying that i didn't really sell any of these" and then i ask "am i supposed to care, or something?" and then she looks at me and her tune changes and she says "oh well i was just saying. it's still early in the day, so i'm sure we'll sell more"......honestly.......what was the point of saying anything in the first place?

and they NEVER have movies out on the days they come out. almost everytime i've gone for a movie or a dvd set they're never put out. and i always ask and i get told "oh we haven't had time to put them out yet" which is actually quite absurd, seeing as i usually go in at around 7pm or later. so they REALLY should have enough time to put them out. when i used to work at Blockbuster, if we didn't have that movie out right at 10am when we opened and corporate found out, we'd get in BIG trouble. it's false advertising.

This is what some seem to be missing!
Both DH and I went up and picked out stuff to put on layaway but I was the one who gave the info needed to start the layaway--I didn't realize that he wouldn't be able to pick it up if he wasn't on the acct but then they didn't tell me he wouldn't be able and he was right there when we started it.

He asked them to call me using the number on the acct to verify and they said no---What he and I took exception to was the fact that the cashier was extremely rude in dealing with him and then after I found out the manager was right there when this was going on.

I can get back up to Walmart but only if my DH drives and if he drives me back up we have to bring the kids and it'd be hard to have the kids and the layaway in the car and the kids not see it.

see what i don't get is, why would they take a verification phone number, why wouldn't they call it?? that's a question you should ask!

well it IS quite hard to get sarcasm across the internet. the cashier could have been rude/nasty/sarcastic to him and it's kind of hard to explain, other than "he/she was rude to so-and-so!" over the internet.

Well, honestly, good for your brother, but maybe OP is not as comfortable. Everyone is different. :confused3

Sounds like she was comfortable enough to drive her kids around a few months ago, so I am not sure I understand why she can't now...unless she lost her drivers license privilege (and that is the reason she 'doesn't have a license').

Frankly, b/c Irishbosoxfan has a history of not telling the entire truth :thumbsup2

I hate to stand up for Wal Mart, but there is more to this story ::yes::

Fair enough. I guess I don't know her history. I just thought the "my brother had a heart attack and still drives" comment wasn't fair.
