Rude South Americans

South american is not a race. Brazil is multi, multi racial - maybe moreso than any other country except ours. It's very likely that the groups OP is complaining about includes a number of races, including caucasion. It's an easy copout to blame racism any time someone complains. But a 10 yo getting trampled is crazy. You have no right to ruin my paid visit any more than I have the right to ruin yours.
This is a Disney issue, and it's complex. They can't turn them away, nor should they. But some sort of oversight is more than appropriate. Can we at least post here the times of year when the Brazilian teens are expected so we can all manage our plans and our expectations??

That would be great to know.

Wow, this is perhaps the most racist thread I've ever seen on the Dis Boards. So much wrong in it.

A little girl laying on the ground, cut and he father trying to protect her and him then attacked by a bunch of people from Brazil.:confused3

Seems it is indeed racist and rude on the part of the Brazilians!

I get so tried of the folks who always decide its the Americans that are wrong!

AKK

The ones that can afford to come to Disney are the top 1 percent wealthiest in that country.
They have a attitude of we owe them and we are low life's in there eyes or servants
These RUDE SOB's
greeted by a horde of neon green shirt wearing Brazilians who proceeded to trample anyone in their way

All of the above are racist statements aimed at Brazilians and meant to denigrate and belittle them.

I felt like I was watching a Brazilian Soccer match

Apparently you have never been to a Brazilian soccer match? One of the most fun things you can ever do in your life.

Now there are some down

None of us were there to back up your story, now I'm supposed to just say that violence in the parks is OK as long as it's against the Brazilians? I'm sorry your daughter got run over and I wish those responsible would have been held accountable for doing that, but that still doesn't give you the right to throw punches. How do I know you weren't in the wrong in this instance?

I spoke with someone who is from Portugal
Just because the two countries speak Portuguese doesn't mean the person from Portugal knows about Brazilian culture, and it's actually quite obvious they incorrectly informed you. Matter of fact, those from Portugal have that snobby attitude you talked about when comes to talking about Brazilians.

Yes Racist against Americans that have supplied a theme park system to everyone only to be destroyed by non Americans

Really? So, the time I almost got in a confrontation with some drunk mid-20's American adolescents who were abusing a wheel chair and insulting my wife doesn't count because they are not RUDE SOB'S from Brazil?

I have had a bad experience with a large group at Disney where a man in the group stood on my DD (2 at the time) while she was sitting in her stroller and cut her leg because he was too busy chanting with his arms raised in the air egging the large group on to chant along with him and wasn't watching where he was going. He was VERY rude and shouted at me (I couldn't understand what he said as it was said so quickly but it was very hostile sounding) even though we were stationary in a queue of people trying to bypass his huge group along a tiny pathway as they were taking up all the room by standing in a line arms linked with one another. I was totally speechless and trying to comfort DD but luckily a good few people around us came to my rescue and managed to stop him yelling at me and got the group to move on. I do not know where they were from, all I remember is they had neon orange t-shirts on and there were loads of them. I do not have any issue with tour groups visiting Disney at all but I do think for larger groups like this Disney should have a CM to escort them about to ensure they do not become troublesome to other guests. I have seen many large tour groups and I would say it is about 50/50 between those simply enjoying themselves and those making a nuisance of themselves. I don't think it has anything to do where people are from, get enough troublemakers in a group together and it is a recipe for disaster!

Let me tell you I was very upset to the point of almost in tears crying as I was defending her. I was caught between rage and sadness. never in my Wildest dreams would I of thought I would be playing blocking tackle in epcot .
And let me give you some specific details as more got blocked more came at me.
It wasn't until they realized i was trying to get my daughter up from the ground they backed off. If not they would of just kept coming at me.
One word ANIMALS , untamed Animals Woman and men alike

And if you want more info 3 datys later Hollywood stud , Aerosmith ride , punching the door of marbles . Thank god a Disney employee was in there . They got booted

I completely agree with this thread. My last trip was nearly ruined! The line for the busses were so long. I waited more than an hour to go from All star to DAK and when I suggested to the cast member that maybe Disney should supply more or private busses for the groups I was scoffed at. Later during that trip I went to MK. I was in line to get fast passes and after waiting almost 10 minutes I realize that the women in front of me are inserting almost 50 tickets each! When i returned to to Big Thunder Mountian the line was all the way to Frontierland and the groups were forming their own line and allowed entry. There was a cast member and he did nothing. I went to Guest relations and made a complaint. I was basically told the cast member shouldn't have allowed that and someone would talk to him. The last thing I wanted to do was get someone in trouble but I was fed up with these groups getting away with these thing. Those weren't even a fraction of the problem we encountered.

I do believe that any group that large would cause a problem it's not where the group is from that matters however I'm sure the language barrier does play a huge role. It comes down to having no way of controlling that many children. Especially when it seems Disney hasn't even implied a set of guidelines or rules. Cast members should receive training classes on how to properly handle large groups.

OMG! Was hoping Disney handled this by now.:confused3
When we went in July 2010, they were TERRIBLE!!!! So bad that my KIDS, were ready to leave Disney and go HOME!!
We decided to try again in June 2012, and to our relief, no chanting or huge packs of these BRATS! We did see several groups, but they were small groups of 20-30 and very well behaved. I thought maybe Disney had put their foot down, finally.
Now I hear this, and it makes me very apprehensive about planning a trip next year. I love Disney, but when you cant enjoy it for the pushing and chanting, why go. Especially for my youngest who has SPD. Nothing like being surrounded by 200-300 chanting Brazilians at every show, line, restaurant, parade, ect. to send him into full on MELTDOWN mode. :sad2:

Please stop pissing down our necks while telling us its rain

20's American adolescents at Disney? how old is you and your wife? could you defend yourself, take account of it curious

That is just horrible. They really should be allowed back if they act like that. Something needs to be done about these groups. Maybe if there were broken up into smaller groups, they would get so hyped up and act like that.

I sure hope you daughter will be ok and not have WDW memories ruined because of it.

The whole point of this thread is that this incident involved Brazilians. No one is saying that other incidents don't occur. No one is saying that violence and bad behavior is exclusive to Brazilian tourists. There is a difference in behavior and attitude among different people from different places. Customs are different. We're not accustomed to loud chanting and masses running around, and when these differences collide, the experience can be positive or negative. In this case, it was negative. OP is frustrated their child was injured, and rightfully so.

Sure, when you stop grouping and generalizing about a whole race of people.

Once is an event, twice is a coincidence, three times is a behavior. The behavior of some, not all, members of these groups is well documented. The group setting allows them to act in ways they would never do if in a small family group. A situation has now been created when people have to pull their kids in closer when they see one of these groups in the area and choice between an ugly confrontation or having people cut in front of you in line. I don't save for years to put my family in that kind of an environment.
Commenting that these groups are growing increasingly troubling in the parks, to the point that children are being injured, is entirely appropriate. The claims of racism are inappropriate. As pointed out by somebody else, "Brazil" is not a race. If you are going to point out racism, I think you should identify which race is being targeted and where in a previos post that race was even mentioned. Otherwise, take your race-baiting elsewhere.

I think people are just way too sensitive with that. Brazil is not a race. None of us know what race these people were, only their nationality. Blaming everything on racism is ridiculous and an easy cop out to what the real problems. IMO.

Does anybody realize the original post was the OP's first post on these boards, and you are all willing to jump on the bandwagon. Not like the OP could be a troll or anything.

Generalizing about a whole group of people, Brazilians, is considered racism. I think this is a pretty good description of racism:
Racism takes the form of individual attitudes, beliefs, values and behaviors. Some examples of racist attitudes are racial prejudice, belittling, jealousy and bigotry. Examples of racist beliefs are stereotypes, the belief that some races are better than others, and even include the belief that people can be classified according to race in the first place.

And what is being said in this thread fits it pretty well.

Maybe if they would come to WDW and act right none of us would have these complaints. It's obvious here that they do cause problems and act up while in the parks.

Again Brazilian is not a race it's a nationality.

Again Brazilian is not a race it's a nationality.

You are using a strawman argument whenever you try to say this. It doesn't matter if they are a race or a nationality, it's a group of people being singled out and generalized about.

Nobody has been critical of an entire group of people. There was never a claim that all people from Brazil are rude. The claim is that a disproportional number of teenagers from Brazil who travel to the United States and visit WDW in large groups are rude. That is a very small subset of Brazilians as a whole.

I don't think this is really about race, it's just about where the people came from and the fact that they were not following the proper etiquette of where they were visiting. I don't agree with how they acted, but as far as the lining up for things, a lot of other countries do not line up one after another based off who got there first. I have learned this from traveling. It is often the "funnel " system.... you just move up and go where there is space. Doesn't matter if someone was there before you. I know it's a hard concept to grasp since it seems to make more sense to wait behind the person that got there before you.....but that's just not how a lot of countries work. I was shocked when I went traveling and learned about the "funnel" system, so just wanted to post and inform others... so before assuming someone from another country is rude because of the way they line up...please realize it's just how they were raised and they are most likely not trying to be jerk.
