Nice WOO reference. This thread is fun. It went from South American tour groups to Brazilian Racism to 20 something white people and now we are arguing the definition of racism.

OP, sorry for your bad experience no matter who or what the cause. You DD was injured because of a group of inconsiderate individuals and that is the negative here. I surely hope she is doing better and that all future trips to Disney or elsewhere are magical.

Thank you MM. I plan on using my New Animal kingdom purchase to take them back in November .. I need to get her back to enjoying going on vacation. On the plane ride home she said Daddy I would like to wait a while till we go back

Yea this thread went nuts. It was a bad experience by a tour group. But the words South American, animals, and whatever just started an uproar. OP can say whatever they feel like. But if it would have said just "a tour group that was rude and acted like animals" maybe this wouldn't have turned into what it has, but again we usually know where mostly the part of the world they come from so maybe that wouldn't have mattered.

In the end, I wasn't there so I can say how bad it was or if this was exaggerated, I PERSONALLY don't know. HOWEVER, if it was, then Disney needs to be aware of it. Hopefully future times at Disney will be better. Hope she is ok.

First off let me say I've been going to Disney (Orlando for almost 20 years.
Never in my Life would I of thought this would of happened but it did and I Am pissed off

Just got back July 5th -12th vacation Dis-Orlando
First Day Magic Kingdom. Immediately entering the park was greeted by a horde of neon green shirt wearing Brazilians who proceeded to trample anyone in their way . The wife an I stepped aside as we have a 10 year old girl and 7 yr old boy. Grabbed the Train to Splash mountain and Mine train. get off the train and grab fast pass to Mine train and get online for Splash mountain. While online Another group on Bright Neon Blue shirts is chanting. I felt like I was watching a Brazilian Soccer match. So loud we couldn't hear ourselves talking . My Son started to get upset and my daughter was actually scared. Well we get up to the final turn only to have some of that group jump ahead waiting on the fast pass line . Find that some of them are behind us . Suddenly they are passing us inline from behind us to catch up to the group . 25 or so . Now its a group of 50 plus. OHH and they all have to go on at the same time. Our entire line came to a halt. Now I'm really getting mad. Ok we let it go and go our ride. ,NEXT Day EPCOT , Whole day pretty good, Firework go off. Leaving the park we Find the same group running holding hands inline together and proceed to run in a straight line. The line starts to break right .MY DAUGHTER GETS RUN OVER AND TWO MORE STEP ON HER. Immediately grab her and push about 6 people out of the way . they come back at me as If I was wrong and start to throw fists. I'm a pretty big guy so I let the same go back . Now there are some down . No Disney security . These RUDE SOB's realize they are wrong and run . about 30 American's come to our aide. We go to the Photo pickup store and then security shows up. To my amazement I am told that Disney is aware of the issue and they are trying to get a handle on .. A HANDLE ON IT *** ..
While I Was there I had already purchased another 200 points to Animal Kingdom lodge.
Disney better do something about this and quick. PS I wasn't the only person complaining about this ,Including Employees who assisted my daughter who9 now has a good cut on her right cheek ....:confused3

I agree - this same type of behavior has happened to me with groups of Teenagers - except that they come from Kentucky, Iowa or Texas....and lets tone things down a bit here they are not trampling they are doing what other groups do when they all come together. I get the same behavior in Times Square with hordes of kids from Kansas lock arms or hold hands and either try to cross the street all together as a string and inevitably some dont make it across in time and almost get hit by a car or walking down the street as a solid blob and almost trample me and my son in the stroller.

I think your story is a bit exaggerated because you are PROJECTING the anger that you have at Americans who have been successful and (the 1% that you referenced) at the successful Brazilian which send their kids to Disney. Reading between the lines you think that DisneyWorld BELONGS to America and these FOREIGNERS should pay you special consideration because it is YOUR park&.Is there behavior tought to deal with YES - but I don't think it is reserved to South Americans, Brazillians or any other specific group - other than to say TEENAGERS on a trip.

I think people in different parts of the world do things differently (which is something that Americans would appreciate more if they travelled instead of thinking America is the BEST and there is nothing else out there worth visiting). I do love America very much and am very proud to say I am from the US when travelling - but I also appreciate the other things that can be found in other cultures - food, mores, etc...

These specific complaints that I have read on this board about Brazillians is blown way out of proportion. These are kids all travelling together on a trip and just like Brazillians do it in Disney kids from Kansas do it in TimesSquare&.they run as a group wear shirts from their HighSchool or Association and want to be together when they are on-line or going to dinner or whatever.

I have seen it happen to myself in the line waiting for the Empire State Building with friends from out of town when 10 other people come pushing through because their friends are up there and they have yellow shirts that say AnyCity USA City Soccer team! I have also seen it at restaurants in Manhattan when two people waiting for a table all of a sudden become 10, 12, 15!

Lastly, Brazil is not a race it is a country and generalizing about a whole Country IS RACISM! It is the same thing that we have encountered when we travel and people are SHOCKED that we are not huge and fat because we are Americans! That is not appropriate either!

So in summary I think this is TEENAGE behavior that occurs when any large group gets together we dont like it in TimeSquare I can understand why you dont like it in Disney. Should Disney do a better job of breaking up the groups or policing the lines better so they dont abuse things like FastPass, walking around the parks, etc. YES! but why there is a constant focus on Brazil in these boards just demonstrates a lack of cultural exposure&.I see the same behavior from people from Brazil, Boston and Boise when I have gone to Disney or also home in New York. BTW: I am not Brazillian - but have travelled there - and guess what - the kids do it there as well as at the Eiffel tower and Hong Kong Kwal Quay Buddha :-)

Sorry you had a tough experience - and I wish you and your family a better time next time - perhaps go on a more off time/season if possible.

I disagree, 100%.

I have never, ever experienced anything of that sort in NYC. And I have faith that the NYPD would put an end to it fairly quickly if a mob of kids formed a line and ran, knocking down small children in their path.

And if the 500 Seniors from my school were seen doing it on their Senior trip to WDW (and yes, they would be seen!), they wouldn't have to wait for a CM to do anything. They would be back on a plane to NY-- at their parent's expense-- so fast their heads would spin. ( I do remember some being sent home about 15 years ago... they thought it would be cute to shoplift. They came right home got in at around midnight, and were not allowed to attend the prom or public graduation. Their diplomas were mailed to them. And being a mob?? Hurting people??? Not a chance.)

No, being part of a mob, hurting and frightening people is NOT normal teen behavior. It's not acceptable from anyone anywhere. I think that implying that it is acceptable insults every single one of the thousands and thousands of teens who visit WDW (and NYC and everywhere else) every single year and behave appropriately.

Lastly, Brazil is not a race it is a country and generalizing about a whole Country IS RACISM! It is the same thing that we have encountered when we travel and people are SHOCKED that we are not huge and fat because we are Americans! That is not appropriate either!

Actually that's not an example of racism, but rather an example of culturalism.

Culturalism is the idea that individuals are determined by their culture, that these cultures form closed, organic wholes, and that the individual is unable to leave his or her own culture but rather can only realize him or herself within it. Culturalism also maintains that cultures have a claim to special rights and protections – even if at the same time they violate individual rights.

But what if the terms "animals" and "rude SOB's" were accurate descriptors? BY all accounts the herd mentality and multiple stampedes that I have witnessed would surely be enough evidence to conclude that these groups tend to behave like animals. In this case that behavior happens to be considered rude when compared to what civilized Americans consider acceptable social behavior.

It could be appropriate for that specific group he encountered (and there are tons of stories on the Dis Boards talking about boorish behavior from all races and nationalities), but it cannot be projected across the whole population of South America.

What exactly did you mean by "civilized Americans"?

My favorite is the Pop Warner kids because when they act horribly I'm allowed to complain because they're the same race/nationality/socioeconomic status as me.

Well this was quite an interesting thread. I have also had an experience with Brazillian tour groups. Unfortunately they give themselves a bad reputation. My first experience was with a Brazillian tour group back in July 2006 in the Epcot gift shop across from the character meet and greet. There was a tour group in there buying a bunch of stuff. The way they were yelling at the lady who was totaling their purchases was the first thing that caught my attention. Some english words, some not, but very rude, condesending, and obnoxious. While I observed the fiasco at the register my hubby observed some of the others stuffing items in their pockets and small bags. THEY WERE STEALING and making a diversion at the register. I left my purchases at the register and walked out because things were out of control. Later that night at Illuminations there was another group again, singing yelling and being obnoxious. THAT IS WHEN I was told they were a tour group from Brazil. It didnt matter where they were from to me, there was no reason they should have been acting that way.

Ok fast forward to July 2012 last year. My DH, DD6 and I had been sitting in the ampitheather for almost 2 hours waiting to see FANTASMIC for the first time. Just as dusk began to fall, a team of them started walking over the bleachers stepping on people and items to all line up together to sing. Other people were yelling and screaming at them and they completely ignored them. I must have had the look of SATAN on my face because when the group of them got in front of us and proceeded to stand up, i stood up with them and DARED them to utter a single word. They all looked at me as if I was MEDUSA herself. In the meantime my husband went and got a CM who brought security along. The 2 girls and 2 or 3 guys were looking at me if they had saw a ghost. Security went to the group leader and told them if they became disruptive they would be escorted out. Some of them from the other side still PERFORMED but the ones in front of me kept staring until they all finally got up and moved. I got an ovation from others around me. Anyone who was there sitting around me back in July 2012 should remember that night. They still acted a fool, but not in my vicinity. I was able to see FANTASMIC in all its glory without any distractions.

Ok...the next day we were on Main Street. They formed a human chain to attempt to block the ELECTRIC PARADE!!!!! If you visited the end of July 2012 you should recall that one too. There was a gentleman we had met while waiting for the parade to start. When all of this was going on he started shaking his head in disbelief. The man proceeded to tell me that the previous night his family was at the hotel pool and his teenage son went to the bathroom. He came out immediately to tell his father that there was no room in the bathroom BECAUSE all those girls from that tour group were using the SINKS to WASH THEIR HAIR and the hand dryer to dry it. They had all the sinks occupied in the MENS bathroom!!!! A cast member was trying to get them out while waiting for help from security or someone. Now I did not witness that incident myself, but that is what I was told.

Another incident is when we were waiting for the Jungle Cruise ride. Yes, we had a fast pass, and were inline and they just bombarded their way past other people. When they got to me and my family my husband told them in SPANISH...DONT EVEN TRY IT!!! Now they may speak Portugese but they understood what my husband said just like they understood me when I spoke English. I find that to be HILARIOUS. These groups are responsible for giving themselves a bad reputation and they do not seem to care. It just so happens that the BRAZILLIAN groups are the groups that people are complaining about. I don't think that it's racism. But to assume EVERYONE from Brazil acts the same way would be racist.

Oh yes, the horror:

I will say that the overall behavior from the groups was not nearly as bad as I had expected. No screaming or chanting, only slightly louder than everyone else when chatting in lines, and really no inconveniences other than anything caused by any sort of group larger than 15. Maybe the winter groups are more docile who knows.

Or are you talking about that stupid meme that was posted of a group of kids taking a picture and hamming it up? :rolleyes2

My favorite is the Pop Warner kids because when they act horribly I'm allowed to complain because they're the same race/nationality/socioeconomic status as me.

No, what's being said is you can't lump all Pop Warner kids together as being bad just because some of them do something stupid.

lugnut,
You seem to be opposed to the group of people who want to enjoy WDW without being subjected to large groups of rude, unsupervised teenagers who ignore park rules and place children in harm. Since you are against this group, does that make you a racist?

See, a person can make a post without the name calling.

And if those people were doing what you said that is horrible and they should be reprimanded (thrown out).

I can't believe people here don't see the line the OP crossed.

Absolutely Agree!!

It could be appropriate for that specific group he encountered (and there are tons of stories on the Dis Boards talking about boorish behavior from all races and nationalities), but it cannot be projected across the whole population of South America.

I do not believe that any poster has applied the behavior to any specific country or entire continent, but rather to a specific group who, by virtue of identifying their place of origin via wearing matching uniforms, are acting as representatives of their entire nation or continent. Therefore any actions by them, whether good or bad, are a direct reflection on the nation as a whole.

What exactly did you mean by "civilized Americans"?

By civilized Americans I am referring to American citizens who behave in the following manner:

Civilized [siv-uh-lahyzd]: adj
1 : marked by well-organized laws and rules about how people behave with each other.
2 : polite, reasonable, and respectful.
3 : pleasant and comfortable
4 : showing concern for what is correct according to social rules.
5 : having an advanced or humane culture, society, etc.
6 : polite; well-bred; refined.
7 : of or pertaining to civilized people.
8 : easy to manage or control; well organized or ordered.

What race exactly are all of these posts about? Can you tell me? Really I am curious to know. Obviously you are reading into these comments way too much.

Racism- 1. A belief that a race is a primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race.
2. Racial prejudice or discrimination.

I thought I would share the definition that way you would know exactly what it means.

No body on here is discriminating or being prejudice of a race of people. We are clearly stating facts about a group of tourists' actions.

I often wonder why race is an issue. When I hear people pull the race card, I really think they are the ones that are racist.

You hit the nail on the head!!!

:cheer2:

lugnut,
You seem to be opposed to the group of people who want to enjoy WDW without being subjected to large groups of rude, unsupervised teenagers who ignore park rules and place children in harm. Since you are against this group, does that make you a reacist?

I'm against the haterade the OP was spewing.

I have a serious issue with his daughter being knocked down. The kids who did that should be thrown out or arrested. However, it still doesn't give OP the right to denigrate a whole race/nationality.

I've been to Brazil and have interacted with many BTG at WDW and have only had wonderful experiences. That doesn't mean there aren't some jerks in the group though.

Well - sorry - but will have to disagree with you...we live on 57th and Broadway and we see large groups of teens doing the exact same thing as they all run into Central Park at the same time. Some from Brazil - some from Boise and yes - large groups of 20/30+. The Boy Scouts where just in town last weekend hundreds of them - and while they were well behaved - marching along I got hit by a canteen or two as they went by....and some cut in line at the local Duane Reade - not very Boy Scout like behavior - but teen like none the less - it wasn't that big a deal!

I have seen large groups of people wearing the same soccer jersey or as you have mentioned brightly colored t-shirts and some have been from Brazil...never had any issue of stealing or rudeness that you have mentioned. But large groups of teens from Pennsylvania all holder hands or locking arms and walking through Times Square causing an "inconvinience" YES! ABSOLUTELY YES ALL THE TIME!

Not sure what everyone is reporting in Florida??? Just at a loss!

Read the title of the tread man. What does it say? "RUDE SOUTH AMERICANS"

Not every same colored t-shirt group of people is from Brazil.

Fine, you want to judge and make over-reaching statements about an entire group of people then go at it. I'm not playing that game because it's wrong to do.
