While driving to my boyfriend's apartment, I noticed several of the road signs had been vandalized. They were spray painted to the point of being very difficult if not impossible to read. I called the non emergency number for the sheriff's office figuring that that was something that they needed to know.
Of course it was after hours, so it prompted me to dial the operator. This was our conversation:
Her: garbled name that was impossible to understand.
Me: Is this the _______ Sheriff's Office?
Her: Yes. May I help you?
Me: I need to report a vandalism.
Her: Where?
Me: Somebody has spray painted over the speed limit signs on ________ Road between the two bridges.
Her: You can't report that, you don't own it.
Me: I know I don't own it, but I thought you would need to know about that.
Her: What do you want me to do about it? I can pass it along to our roads department, but that's all I can do. (Repeating this over and over).
Me: That's fine. That's all I expected you to do.
There was more to it. The last part she kept saying over and over and in general was just very rude and had absolutely no phone skills. Maybe that wasn't the right department, but they were the only ones I could think of to call to report it since it was in their jurisdiction. That's the last time I ever try to be helpful.
